Scanning Passport Card

Has anyone had any luck scanning a passport card into Ocean Ready within the MedallionClass app? I’ve tried and it seems to be reading the data on the back of the card but get an error saying to try and reduce reflections. Customer service seemed to think the data can be entered manually but there’s no option to.

Flash wasn’t on. Have tried with both my iPhone and iPad, under various lighting conditions, in shadows, etc. tried an old passport and initially had same error but then started working. There should be an option to manually upload info, IMO.

The process was really frustrating for us.  It took no flash to get the passports to take, then it was glitchy. Some days it would appear that the passports were not recognized. so I waited for a day when it was OK, took screen shots of bar code thing and stopped worrying about it. Once on the cruise, I really liked the Medallion experience. Loved being able to find the kids

Thanks, seems like the app is hit and miss with people. I’m just holding my phone over the passport card trying to scan the data on the back of the card so the flash is not involved. I just got an email from AskOceanMedallion. Hopefully they will come up with a solution.

Passport Books should work but a Passport "Card"??? I didn't think the cards were valid for much. Are you scanning your regular passport book or an actual passport card?

I had both the regular passport booklet and a passport card. The card wasn't good for much. You should have an actual regular passport book. Use that.

The card should work for a cruise to Mexico, Caribbean and Alaska (closed loop).  The issue with them is that you cannot travel with them.  So should something come up, medical emergency, miss getting back on ship, etc. You can't fly out with them without a visit to the consulate/embassy

Copy the card front and back then scan the copy with your phone.  Should eliminate reflection.  EM

Just tried that and the same error. I’m beginning to think it may have to do with the format of the data on the card. I tried an old passport earlier and it scanned just fine.

Most of the time, yes. But some Caribbean countries now require a passport evem if you are on a clsed loop itinerary.

Seriously. I had the card as well as the regular passport book. . I fully understand how the passport card is "supposed" to work. I recently renewed my regular passport but didn't renew the card. I don't mean to be contentious. I'm really, seriously, just trying to offer constructive advice. I'll stop now as it seems that I'm not perceived as actually trying to be helpful. I hope you manage to resolve your issue.

I hear ya, not sure what good the card really is. I have both but only travel with the passport book. Have never actually used the card. I wonder if the card will work in place of a real ID?  My license expires this year so I’ll get a real ID eventually and I’m not bothered by traveling within the US with a passport. Just curious if that card is worth anything

For USA airport TSA security, the answer is "yes."

In the Princess FAQs regarding travel documents it says “When minors are traveling with only one adult 21 years of age or older, Princess requires that all guests must be in possession of a valid passport. ” Since I’m traveling with 3 kids, they have the cards, my wife and I have books, we had to get 2 cabins. One booking is in her name and one in mine. I’m thinking Ocean Ready may be seeing this arrangement as my kids are traveling with only one parent. About the cards, I understand the limitations with travel as we’ve used them for 4 previous cruises without any issues.

We have both book and card. We have given the card to customs when disembarking and had no issues. If they want to see the passport book well then no problem there either.

We leave the passport book on the ship and take the card with us basically for ID. This is when we got to Mexico, Caribbean, Alaska and Panama Canal.

I think the OP most likely just needs to use the passport book and not the card for Ocean Ready.

Like others have said the

card is almost useless.

Rognperly;,  the medallion class app or ocean ready app can be very buggy.  One day everything works and two days later all the info you put in; is invalid. It can be frustrating;  Below is a link that explains everything about getting ocean ready.  around the 2:30min mark is info on uploading passport info.  Hope this helps

The second video has the passport info you were looking for.  Have fun out there

Thanks. Apparently there was an issue with the app. After watching the video I went in to try to scan again. However this time I now had multiple options for travel documents including the card. I was able to manually enter the info. Other comments concerning the usefulness of the card, for the trip were going on the card is ok unless we miss the boat leaving one of the 2 foreign ports we’ll be docked at.

I am in the process of getting “Ocean Ready.” I have scanned our passports and the code on the bottom of the ID page turned green, and I took pictures of the pages. However, I still have exclamations by our photos instead of green circles around them.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

i was allowed to order my medallions, though.
