We are leaving on Friday for a b2b cruise on the Solstice departing from Auckland on March 10.

Just found out that a couple in our town in Ontario, who arrived from Iran, have Covid 19.

Just as well that we are leaving town😊

Outbreak???  What constitutes an 'outbreak' in your mind?  I'm aware of only a few cases there.

there  were 3 cases now 2 as one person has died...all are from unknown sources (no travel to infected places nor  know contact with anyone who  had) so this means community spread...and as few if any residents have been tested in the US who knows how many are infected now.

Barring the Canadian government advising travellers to avoid non-essential travel or to avoid all travel to the Hawaii, which would result in my travel insurance not covering the trip, we will be cruising from Vancouver to Hawaii in mid-April.

Looking forward to meeting you on board!

With the new cases in Washington State, will celebrity now put them on the no travel or contact list.   Seattle Airport is a major hub.   Living in the US , I could not honestly say I have not been in contact with someone from that State.   I don’t know.  We cruise next week and looking forward to it....not afraid of the virus....but the response.

Here’s my take on our up coming cruise   Honolulu to Vancouver in April

As stated we’re deep into penalties so crazy to cancel now

Our health is great So quite confident we will do well regardless

Our concern is returning home... I am thinking we will need to stay away from kids and grand kids for 2 weeks in order to keep others safe.  So just not sure as of yet. We have 7 weeks

Only you know your circumstances.... if your not in penalty, you can always rebook closer to departure.

Frankly I am driving my better half crazy because I want to fix things and go on this cruise. Things are out of our hands.

i am not sure a cruise ship is any worse of a place to contract a virus  that lets say an arena with 16,000 people in, A resort hotel. i would say a casino in vegas is worse. or even a crowded train or a bus. I think the difference is that when you leave those other locations you blend into the population.

We have a Mediterranean cruise booked for the end of June and have full intentions of going. I think, like the flu, cases will start to drop off once the weather warms up.

I agree to the wait and see.. if its really bad the cruise ship will cancel and you will get credit i am sure. I leave from Rome July 25th I plan to go

Maybe it is time for Celebrity to rethink their policies....so many regular cruise are concerned about their up and coming cruises.....no one should be held hostage because of the threat of a financial loss. If you are concerned , you won’t enjoy your cruise.  Letting cruisers reschedule cruises will create more good will for celebrity.....forcing cruisers to go may create an exodus of regular cruisers to other lines.
We leave next Sunday.....if given an out, I probably  would cancel and rebook. I am not concerned about the virus but about the reaction...(ports,etc.).  Being a seasoned cruiser I can accept this situation....I cannot imagine what a new cruiser is feeling..ships turned away from ports, etc.

We canceled our mid April cruise on MSC out of Barcelona but replaced it with the Reflection out of Miami. Our concern was not so much catching the virus as much as the possibility of a full ship quarantine so far from home and the possibility of ports being closed. We plan to go forward with the Reflection in April.

Love Reflection!

We have a cruise out of New Jersey with one of several stops in Bermuda.  It is paid for so I guess we will giber it a try - at least that is what I am thinking now.  We also have a cruise out of Dublin to Iceland in August which we have to pay by May.  We booked one way flight through Celebrity but our TA said that flight is non-refundable and cannot reschedule so may have to eat that cost if the situation worsens.

I am hoping that Celebrity is fair in their dealings with their customers about this whole virus issue.

Have insurance for both cruises but TA keeps saying does not apply to virus.  What the heck!

We don't have a cruise booked now and will wait until this thing pans out. We're sure that the cruise lines won't miss our pennies. Who knows, maybe Celebrity and the others will reduce their fares and/or reverse the cutbacks such that our 3-4 cruises per year habit is reignited. Maybe not.

In any case, smooth sailing all.

We will be on board as well. May never get a chance to go to Hawaii or indeed Vancouver again, bring it on.

I am canceling a river cruise to the south of France in mid April. As of today, 100 people have contacted the virus in France, some of them in and around the places we were scheduled to visit. It is just not worth the stress and concern worrying about the ‘what ifs’. I did purchase CFAR insurance which will not cover all expenses but will provide a credit for a future cruise which certainly makes my decision easier (coincidentally  it is  the first time in my many years of traveling that I purchased it)!

Wonder if posting and quoting you now deems contact?  ☠️  I am just trying to keep my comments and thoughts balanced with realism and maybe a little humor.  SeaTac airport is 20-miles from Kirkland where the Life Care assisted living home is located. Our local news just reported a case with a postal worker in Federal Way which is 9-miles south of SeaTac.   https://www.king5.com/  Yes... this is becoming concerning.

The Dominican Republic has just announced their first case, so perhaps we’ll see how, or if, the weather makes any difference.

We probably will cancel a June 28 sailing from Venice and not attend our granddaughter's wedding in Portugal. I was hit with a severe case of pneumonia in Italy last year and I  have  no desire to risk another pulmonary disease. We just hope Celebrity will move the final-payment date closer to sailing date.

That’s super disappointing but with that history, I’d cancel too.

We need to all step back and leave the hysteria out of the equation.  There are are nearly 330 million people in the US.  There are 22 cases of coronavirus confirmed by the US public health department and one died.  And yes, there will be more ...

Of the patients that have died, the majority were elderly and already suffering from complications and comorbidities.   Even if we narrowed this down to Washington state alone, with 4 confirmed cases out of over 7 million people.

I worked in infection control in a hospital and in no way would we even remotely considered this to be an outbreak!  It is definitely a concern ... but, no, certainly not what any statistician would call an outbreak.

For the flu season this year (2019-2020), the CDC reports the following preliminary estimates for the influenza virus in the US:

32,000,000 – 45,000,000 cases

18,000 – 46,000 deaths

They are not even calling this an outbreak  ... and, this is with an available vaccine, although, one that does not cover all strains of the flu.  We probably shouldn't subscribe to the mass hysteria that the media is creating.  Take your precautions and if you are elderly or suffering from many comorbidities, then, I would suggest canceling.  But, I would really be more concerned about infectious diseases such as the flu, MRSA,  and tuberculosis, yes ... many more cases of TB in the US than coronavirus.

First we had a cruise last October departing from Hong Kong with the riots. As it turned out we made the trip without incident.

Now we have a cruise departing from Barcelona in August. Unless the virus spreads more or X cancels the cruise, we're planning on going. We already have air, insurance (not for any REASON), hotels and final deposit is in June so we still have time to make a decision.

Celebrity needs to determine where they are going with Italy in the next couple weeks. With the CDC highest level warning in effect - travel policies will be effected (appears both covering and excluding). Extended health insurance coverage might be effected as well.

I do think the fearful comments about Kirkland being near the Port of Seattle at this point are over reacting.  The valid concern with Corona is China studies suggested transmission is about 3 times that of flu.  999 out of 1000 that get flu are just fine. Corona number statistically less.
