Canada ban just announced

No cruise ship (with over 500 people, including crew) will be allowed to Canadian ports until July 1.  Wow.

I had been looking to come out of cruise hibernation this spring. Glad I didn't book the cruises into and out of Vancouver I was considering for later this month and next month.

Also CDNS have been instructed not to travel and will be required to Self Isolate for 14 days if they travel upon return .

Was thinking about that yesterday but at least now everyone can plan. I'll cancel all my flights and thankfully I booked the entire trip with points and miles. Will find something else to do then. 😄

Yes. Anyone thinking of booking a 2021 Alaskan trip might want to consider booking now as I can see demand for them increasing over the coming weeks and pushing the prices up as a result.

Just to point out - the current ban is only until July.  I don’t know when the Alaska cruises typically go.  And of course the ban could be extended.

So for Alaska cruises to go ahead the US feds will have to suspend the Jones Act to allow departure from a US port.

Only the ones departing from the US would benefit from this action.

Would not help much as Seattle currently "asking" cruise ships to bypass and they have only so many berths for ships.

Do you think since government says do not get on a cruise that Congree would suspend the Jones Act. No chance in h###.

Canada just announced they were banning cruise ships until July 1.  Does this cancel the Alaskan cruises or will the US suspend the rues for a foreign port?

I guess no sailings out of Vancouver. That cancels my cruise. Good; If it's canceled then I should get a refund instead of FCC. (Maybe)

Will they just keep adding it on. Guess being over 70 with a chronic wasn't enough. What foreign port will the Alaska ships go to. Refund the cruise fares.

BC and PEI have implemented this for their residents, but I'm not aware of any federal requirement as yet. With all of the rapid changes, maybe I missed it.

Trudeau announced this new advisory ( for international travel including to the US) this morning. Echoed by Canada's Chief Public Health Officer.
