This is very selfish....he knew he was sick, didn't report, flew home and THEN went to hospital much later.  No excuse for it.  Obviously he didn't want to self isolate on the ship and wanted to get home before anyone knew about it.  This affects more cases in his home area AND all the people on the plane, airport, cab, etc.  One other person did this reportedly, and was criminally charged....not sure where this happened.

How could he have possibly known what is was?  Doctors can't tell for sure without the test? Was the ship equipped to test for that virus? At this time of the year, many are sick with flu, colds, etc., and many of the symptoms of those are the same.

It wasn't for him to identify...passengers were asked to report if they were SICK;  at that point a medical person would most likely ask him to isolate in his cabin to prevent contamination to others in case he did have the virus.

We just got off the Silhouette yesterday.  Never heard that there had been a virus case on previous cruise altho the ship was full of rumors as we returned to Miami twice due to a death and another emergency (also had an emergency evac by launch the first night of the cruise).

We are going to stay home for the next couple of weeks.  Our son & dau-in-law who traveled with us have been asked not to come into their office and are trying to work out if they can do some things at home and on their computers.    We are just glad to be home!  We thought they might shut down flights before we got off the ship......

Positive note....ship looks good with the new carpet and decor, very similar to the Edge.  Let's hope we'll all be cruising again soon 😎

This still seems like a breakdown somewhere in the system.  If the Canadian CDC was aware of a positive case of the virus on the ship, Celebrity should have been notified as well as B2B passengers and passengers from the previous sailing.

They are busy sending me marketing emails 4x a day.

The wife of a now-ill passenger from the Feb 23 Silhouette cruise has told us that her government (Canada) contacted them directly to alert about the COVID case on her cruise.  We've received no alerts (USA) from either CDC or Celebrity, and my wife's been horribly ill since the evening of March 9th (disembarked March 6th).  Test taken March 11th, still no results back.

We were celebrity summit with several confirmed cases but nobody contacted anyone. We are located in Ontario Canada.    We are waiting to be tested since we are ill.
I hope you’re wife feels better soon.

With hindsight, perhaps the very least he should of reported it to Dr on board for advice. I would of thought there was info regarding seeing Dr if feeling unwell in the daily newsletter

Wishing your wife best wishes and a good recovery from her illness.

I am so disappointed in Celebrity of their lack of transparency and communication regarding both the Silhouette and Summit.  They should immediately post a press release such that passengers from the 23rd SL and 29th SU and itineraries thereafter can monitor for symptoms and seek medical help / testing, as needed.

Completely irresponsible if passengers are not being notified.

I hope she recovers quickly.  Please keep us informed of her status and if you learn of any other ilnesses from the Feb 23 cruise.

I've had one BIG thought since all this started and I don't think it's been touched on.......why did this become so prevalent on so many cruise ships...some with nothing in common as to where they've sailed??  A single passenger couldn't have spread this so far and singularly on one cruise ship after another.  😕

that is where you are mistaken.  it is more prevalent than reported due to lack of testing, as well.

Viruses spread easily on cruise ships because they are a contained environment going on usually for around 7 days where the same people can often encounter each other again and again and people are revisiting venues multiple times (dining rooms, casino, bars, etc.) that keeps increasing their chances of catching it. The buffet is often the greatest transmitting spot because people are all sharing the same tongs and ladles. I mean look how the noro virus easily and quickly spreads onboard. That one causes a reaction though usually within 3 days as opposed to corona which could take up to 14 days to show symptoms which is why so many cruisers have been showing symptoms after they have disembarked.

Come on people, lots of speculation, lots of assumptions based on nothing.  The person went to the local health centre upon return to Canada, identified and provided their travel information and has followed due course since.  As I was on this cruise I can tell you there was NO announcement, there as ZERO screening, there was ZERO literature or direction provided by anyone on the ship - hell people we still putting there mitts all over the plates and food in the Oceanview Cafe and Celebrity didn't implement a damn thing to prevent it - I was personally pretty disgusted with how my fellow travellers acted to the point where I couldn't stomach eating anything at Oceanview it was such a turnoff.

There was NOBODY as you got off the ship, NO screening, No literature, not even customs officers - NOTHING.

Toronto airport was completely devoid of information, screening or anything else that would have been of assistance.

So stop using hindsight and projecting your own paranoia onto this person because I call BS on that.  Would be more helpful if those on the cruise could post how they are doing instead of having to wade through all the baseless speculation and that's how I really feel.

Oh - I myself have no symptoms and am self-isolating until this Friday.

Thank you

I hope your wife makes a full and speedy recovery!

I live in the same city as the other person - I find it highly questionable that the Canadian government contacted them - we were on the same cruise, we live in the neighbouring city and we have heard from nada.  Why Celebrity can't reach out is kind of beyond my comprehension but whatever, I never expected profit motivated entities to do anything that might cost them future revenue so I'm pretty jaded.

Our local health unit, without direction from any level of government, the individuals have been personally calling everyone in our Region that was on this ship to ensure all passengers are well, self-isolating or coming in for testing if deemed necessary.  Again, this was the initiative of these individuals who contacted Celebrity and got the manifest and are reaching out to all local passengers - even calling emergency contacts if they can't track down the individual passenger.  That's a whole new level of care I'm truly and well impressed with.  Big shout out to the Waterloo Region Health Care workers and their personal initiative and not letting the inability of government from doing what's needed and right!!  Awesome!!

Ouch!  I get that you're angry with X, the airports and gov't in general,  but IMHO why tell people here to essentially 'shut up' and think like you do.  "So stop using hindsight and projecting your own paranoia onto this person because I call BS on that." These are the facts from the news article:  First symptoms March 1st on board, left ship March 6th, reported to health services March 10th. Granted, perhaps no info on ship or plane, but PLENTY in newspapers and TV after he returned.  No guess work here, with all the signs he had:  being on a cruise ship, not well, CV being a big issue reported everywhere... at least from 6th to 10th, HS should have been notified. What's done is done and I hope he and family and whoever else may have become infected, are now doing better.

You are self-isolating like most of us...so thank you for that...you have good reason to.  And please take it easy on us posters..most of us aren't paranoid - just concerned for EACH OTHER.

Benefit of doubt “Canadian government” could have meant “Public Health Board”, for a non-Canadian - it might seem like the same thing.

Huge shout out to all the Public Health Boards across the provinces, they are doing a stellar job.  The PHB in Prince Edward Island did the same for their first positive case (from the Summit) and contacted Celebrity for the manifest and notified 4 other Islanders that were on the same cruise.

It is their hard work and dedication to contact tracing that has potentially saved hundreds from further potential exposure.

Unfortunate that Corporate Celebrity is remaining silent when so many positive COVID cases have now been reported from Summit passengers 😞

With all the fuss about data protection and GDPR recently, I am surprised that Celebrity released their passenger manifesto, but kudos to them for doing so. It is good to see that health concerns have over-ridden any possible bureaucratic process (not sure if this falls under GDPR or not!).

Right - after he (if it's a he) returned.  You and others claimed he didn't report to Celebrity - you don't know that.  It is guess work because you have no way of knowing.  You have no reason to believe what I'm saying either other than I can speak from experience with the same/similar local health system - take the 10th thing with a grain of salt - our health system was in no way prepared to handle this and they gave terrible advice that first week.

For all you and others know, including myself, he may have followed the Celebrity medical staff directions (then again, he may not have - I don't know any better than you do) - none of us know, so I'm asking that all of us suspend the speculation because we don't know.  What I'm seeing is a lot of condemnation without all the facts and relying on our local media is well frankly a bit of a joke so.

Anyway, I'm not telling anyone to shut up or think like me (if that's how it is taken then I apologize for that as it wasn't my intent) other than to ask that we ALL stop speculating - I don't think that's too much to ask but yes, that's just my opinion and I've said my bit.

It's in the cruise terminals and airports.

If we had more tests you'd find a lot more infected.
