sea shepherd Posted March 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) Been following a crew member on YouTube. He was doing a 30 day blog of life on the empty ship. When today he was told they are starting to sent the crew home . Starting in 6 days from now. This dose not look good for a April start up. 😔 https://youtu.be/YTHY4IN4-g8 Edited March 19, 2020 by sea shepherd
mugtech Posted March 19, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Sounds like he is in the first group of crew members being sent home, perhaps his blog has something to do with that. Does appear they will not be starting up again on 4/12/20, otherwise it would be a terrible waste of time and money. Good luck getting back to UK. kevinyork Posted March 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2020 The dates cruise lines have given as their “no cruises till” dates are just the intial cancellation periods. This isn’t going to take many months to run its course before cruising restarts.
GarlicBread Posted March 19, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Jewel already sent home the majority of the crew earlier this week. Mainly management and Italians remain.

firefly333 Posted March 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2020 New cases and the rise in deaths not a good sign, but then I keep seeing beaches filled in florida. Florida needs to quit with the greed and close down the parties.

blondie from arizona Posted March 19, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 19, 2020 Those spring breakers really make me angry. I can't imagine what they would do if the airlines suddenly cut flights and they couldn't get home. I bet they would just call their Mommy to bail them out. And, why is it that those same college kids think the rest of us should pay for their student loans? Rant over. Sorry.

People in the U.K. and the US are only at the beginning. It’s not going to clear up in a few weeks. The cruise lines are cautiously only cancelling cruises OFFICIALLY for 30-60 days. Undoubtedly they have plans afoot to cancel many more, and for many months. But this policy stops a deluge of people wanting to cancel months in advance. The date by which they claim to be restarting cruises is a smokescreen to try to limit the damage day by day. Ports are shut, entire countries are shut, where are these cruise ships going to go? If the Caribbean islands start being affected they will be fighting for their lives. They won’t want ships full of people docking. In Italy, which is in lock down after several weeks of the virus, HUNDREDS of people are dying each day, and not all of them are old with underlying conditions. That statement only leads to a sense of false security, and makes people think it’s only like the flu. It isn’t. This is a totally new situation. NOBODY has any of the answers, least of all me, but I can see the way things are going. Much as I love cruising, and am devastated that something which my husband and I love is no longer a possibility, I am bright enough to realise that surviving this virus is all we can hope for. THAT is our priority at the moment - SURVIVAL! If, at some later stage, we can return to our cruising pattern of several cruises a year, then that will be both a miracle and a joy.

Could very well be. Chris has been on the Oasis since December and was on another ship prior to that. Chris started his 7 month contract late August or early September on Mariner so this is the end of his 7 month contract. This is not a smoke screen. Several members of the CLIA that are based in the USA, Voluntarily agreed to a 30 day suspension with the Trump Administration. These, cruise lines that can benefit or will benefit from the relief package that they are working on for the travel Industry that includes airlines, hotels cruise industry.

Senority rules, has always been that way. Edited March 19, 2020 by Plum Happy

I fully accept what you say. What I meant was it gives some people the false idea that 60 days is ‘it’ and after that everything will be back to normal. You only have to read the posts by people who are rushing to rebook, some as early as April or May.

Rare Laszlo Posted March 19, 2020 #21 Share Posted March 19, 2020 This "30" day break will be more likely a 90-120 day. After the big waves runs its course their will be smaller ones for many months to come until their is a vaccine for it It will be interesting to see just how the crews get home

I'm a child of the sixties and was often irresponsible so I'm not going to berate these kids. We were all young and irresponsible once😊 Any what does reducing student loans have to do with this?

As a child of the sixties myself, I can't recall that any of my irresponsible behavior was of the sort that endangered every single person or loved one that I might encounter. I could never afford spring break because I had student loans that I was committed to paying back.
Plum Happy Posted March 19, 2020 #24 Share Posted March 19, 2020 https://www.cruisehive.com Carnival is letting their crew go from the Spirit since the ports in Seattle and Vancouver aren't allowing ships in until July 1st. This may happen to all ships that will service these two ports.
