Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Schools here in NJ start after Labor Day.

Schools in Texas have already started and 4 districts had to close due to Covid infection. 😟

Our TX Gov. who mandated NO masks for school kids now has Covid.  Most parents and teachers want the kids wearing masks which is very prudent since children are getting infected with the Delta variant.

When will this insanity and horror end?

Totally agree about the insanity of it. I really thought by now we would be out of the tunnel for the most part.

edited since I found one of my answers.

Great news. I had not heard that. I wonder if the cruise lines did some back room deal with the Bahamas to get around the Florida ban on vaccine requirements.🤔

Some people on my October Odyssey cruise aren’t happy. I was reading the posts on FB and there is one lady that says she will probably get the shot since she doesn’t think she can get her airfare refunded. At least that’s a good thing. She said she is a city bus driver and it was probably going to happen anyway. The sooner the better. Another said they were supposed to get married on the cruise and are totally against the shot. Guess they won’t be married on that cruise. Im happy Royal is going this route.

So, I have a question...one or two? of you have mentioned going on the Bella cruise, I believe in 2023.  May I ask who Bella is, or what the Bella cruise is?  I know John&LaLa have their adorable family member Bella, and I know several young girls with the name Bella;  but what or who is the Bella cruise?  I think it was BonTexasNY who first mentioned it?

Inquiring minds want to know..lol!😁

Just returned from MK. Survived a massive wind/thunder/lightning/rain storm. We were safely tucked in Mickeys Philharmonic. Never got to see show. They kept us in lockdown. Show had mechanical problems.  We were escorted out stage left.

Now time to pack.
I have many pages of reading when I get home.
tomorrow leaving at 4 am. 12 1/2 hour drive to Richmond Kentucky.

Include us in your prayers for a safe journey.

I have been wanting to book a cruise for September. I’m concerned that either the pcr test won’t be back in time since more people are getting tested. CVS isn’t taking any antigen test appts until shortly before the time you need to be tested. I have started to look for other places so I will have to see what I find.

I would be interested in what you find. We are going to be in Ft. Lauderdale for a week before our B2B cruise, so if testing is still required before our cruise, we will need to find someplace there.  Plus, we have the NY holiday right before the first cruise, so that shortens the time frame. I hope the testing goes away by then if we have our booster.

@harryfat Enjoying all of your pictures.  Your wife is very talented with her hats!

I never knew about the Flag Retreat Ceremony at Disney.  It gave me chills, as bands in

parades always do.  Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the compliment.  Yeah, my wife was all gung ho for WDW back in 2018.  She had a different Mickey ears for every day we were there.  Think her carry on suitcase were just her ears as these can't be bent or squished

As for the Flag Retreat, they have them both at WDW and Disneyland. They brought them back after the parks re-opened:

Here's is the ceremony info for WDW.  Looks like they don't start until 5 PM while Disneyland is at 4:30:

Where we were there in 2015, they had any guests who served at each of the branches stand up and be honored by the crowd when their branch was called but they no longer do that

It's not as bad today in Hayward, as it was a couple of days ago. AQI is only showing 69 today, it was 130 a couple of days ago. :classic_biggrin: It still looks orangey.

Technically not a west coaster, but we were there to take our grandson home to the North Bay Area last weekend.  Just FaceTime them last night, and they have smoke drifting down their way from the Caldor fire.   I assume they probably have some ash landing there, since I saw some in the video from Novato.  They are at 56 now, so a little better than you.

One of my friends lives very near the Caldor fire.  Last I was in contact with her on Wednesday, one of their friends was under evacuation orders, and they were moving some things to their garage.  I see the air is at 106 at their place.

Stay safe out there.  I hate those fires.

It's been so hazy here that you can see the sun in the sky with your naked eye.  One orange ball.  The moon was orange last night, too.  With the haze and smoke, makes it feel like Star Wars, on the planet Tatooine.

Yeah, I was going to mention the orange sun couple days ag but I got into "the zone" of trip report writing that I never got around to mention the present day current event.

It was bad last year in that besides Covid that kept you indoors most of the time, but the smoke from the wild fire made sure you can't even walk outside for days to get exercise as the news kept telling people to stay indoors when we were looking at 300+ on the air pollution scale.

This is only August.  We have at least 2 more months of dry weather out here.  We typically won't get any rain until around Halloween as we are bone dry from May to October with 0.00 rain.  Any fire will be bad news...

Bad lighting.  It’s a yellow tomato, Azoychka.  First time to grow them.

I made the the pizza sauce, which turned out great, from the garden.  Amish Paste tomatoes, onions, garlic, and basil.  I also added a little salt, sugar and oregano.

‘The dough is a blend made for ovens.  I bake in a convection oven at 550.  9CD92A1C-A9DF-44E5-B328-484846765D5B.thumb.jpeg.985de0981ca7f001bdd403e39940bb8e.jpeg

Glad to see someone actually using a convection oven. I have friends who scared themselves away from it.

As I understand, US and UK are already "following" us with the 3rd shot, US even "free for all", whereas here, since we were "against" the FDA's recommendations, it was gradually, wary about potential side effects -- 1st those 60+, after 2 weeks 50+, and from today -- even DS1 (40.5) has an appointment for Monday.

To our advantage (and also in favor of other countries), we have 4 very organized and computerized health associations, which can easily provide data about ages, gender, side effects, etc. Vaxxed or not.

Easier to research.

Should you have time [and inclination 😁], Prof. Gili Regev-Yochai is the leading lady researching Covid vaccinations since the beginning, in the biggest hospital here [also renown worldwide].

I'm attaching from PubMed one of her articles, published in the prestigious Lancet --

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7906709/

Thank you. I will read the link when I have some time to spend with it.

So with the potential for hurricane Henri bearing down in us, we’re driving the grandsons back to PA tomorrow.  We were originally to have them for close to 2 weeks, but the older one has middle school orientation in Monday so we were bringing them home Sunday. Now with the storm coming it looks like Sunday would be a terrible drive.  We’ll do the trip down & back in one day.
Today was a strange weather day, very cloudy with showers although I heard from a friend it was beautiful at the beaches.  The boys helped DH “batten down the hatches”, secured all the outdoor furniture, got the cover ready for the pool, etc. Boring stuff but they were rewarded with a trip to the ice cream stand after dinner.  They have not seemed to mind the down time and appeared to just enjoy their time with us as we’ve loved having them here.
