Refund from NCL Canceled cruise

Recommended Posts

I know people have received refunds from cruises canceled before final payment and using the Peace of Mind cancellations.  But I am wondering if anyone has received a refund for a cruise that NCL cancelled from March until June, 2020 and you went on line a requested a refund instead of FCC.  I was not able to request a refund until April 13th but there was a  group before my group that requested earlier than April 13th.  I cannot request a refund for my June cruise until later this week but still have not received my refund for my April cruise.  I know they said 90 days, but I was wondering if anyone got money from NCL for NCL cancelled cruises.  I want to cruise soon, but NCL is making me nervous with the slow response to refunds.  I may not make my final payment for my September cruise at this point.

I guess you didn't see this on a different thread. NCL may not be a going concern for long.

If you have travel insurance that covers financial default awesome. Or file a claim with your CC for not providing a service you paid for.

My cruise was for 5/17 and I was supposed to request the refund this Thursday 5/7. Good luck to both of us and others.

I do not have insurance for my April cruise but I do for my June cruise.  I did see this news item but it did not say they were not paying refunds.  Even if they file bankruptcy they could still pay out refunds.

My March 14 cruise was canceled late on the 13th. We were already in place to board. I applied for a refund the first morning I was allowed, March 23rd. No refund yet. I'm still within their 90 days I was told I may have to wait.

I did get a refund for my shore excursions. I canceled those on March 10th. I was told 1-2 weeks. After three weeks I called and asked again about the refund. I was told to expect 30 business days. This refund did arrive a week or so after I called.

I did not think of cancelling my shore excursions prior to NCL canceling.  That may have been a better idea.  Thank you.  I am hopeful.

Our cruise was canceled on March 13. I canceled our pre paid gratuities around March 10. We filled put the refund request. We have not received any $ including the gratuities which we were told would be about a week.

I find it interesting that those who are canceling future cruises before final payment are receiving their refunds within weeks and we continue to wait at least 90 days. I'm guessing it's because as soon as they refund the future cruise they can then rebook the stateroom.

My final payment for my summer cruise was on March 10. On March 11th, I noticed my travel agent put the final payment on the wrong credit card, (We have an NCL Visa and a Celebrity Mastercard)  I contacted her, she switched the payment to the correct credit card. Basically, I was charged twice for my Baltic cruise....and it took 56 days to get my refund for the charge on the wrong credit card. It took forever, but it finally happened. I contacted my credit card company and started a claim because I didn't want to pay interest on that lump while waiting.

I'm still waiting for our refund. I cancelled on April 7th, final payment was due on April 19th. I still haven't received my funds, and now I'm really worried that I won't.

Not sure why, NCL secured 2 billion dollars which gives them enough cash to stay afloat even if cruising is suspended for 12 months...

We applied for a refund on March 23rd and have heard nothing. We receive NCL emails about our "cruise credit".

Sorry to read those who requested refunds before we did have not received $$.

But if they stick to 90 days-we would not expect anything until after June 23rd.  I realize they have many cruises to refund or provide FCC's but they sure can process bookings and expected payments on time.

Tomorrow I am requesting a second refund for a May Canada/NE cruise.

I did read the information on NCL obtaining billions in funding.

Wonder how creative they will be now?

That't the problem with fake news from the mainstream media. NCL made an obligatory filing with the SEC. I don't think that they, or any other cruise line, could claim that they are not in financial distress. But they did not say that they are definitely going to declare bankruptcy. That's the sensationalism that plagues some of the media chains. They take something out of context, and draw a conclusion not in evidence, and put out a headline to get them web clicks.... that's how the mainstream media make their money.  Click. Click. Click. Web impressions from Cruise Critic members. If the NCL does something like American Airlines who file bankruptcy and reorganization, they would continue to operate and honor current tickets and credits, while paying off creditors.

Dude. It wasn't fake news. The problem with "fake news" is that people throw that term around when the information doesn't suit their narrative.

NCL themselves  said that reorganization was (still is) a real possibility. If you think that SEC filings are just some crap that companies throw out there, well, then I don't know what to tell you.

"our business and financial condition could be adversely affected and it may be necessary for us to reorganize our company in its entirety, including through  bankruptcy proceedings, and our shareholders may lose their investment in our ordinary shares."

Today, though, NCL was apparently able to secure $2.4B in additional liquidity, $400M of which was from private investments. The rest in market transactions. That's nice. They said it would keep them operating for another year or so. Money doesn't grow on trees so that money will ultimately end up in the fares, which will soon be even more outrageous than they already are.

A year is not a long time. The rose colored glasses of Cruise Critic sometimes see cruising returning to "normal" by September! First it was May, then June, then July. Let's see what happens next year.

Unfortunately a friend and I are still waiting for refunds promised from NCL's February 6, 2020 cruise in Southeast Asia aboard the Norwegian Jade (Singapore to Thailand to Cambodia to Vietnam to HongKong).  When we boarded the cruise on Feb. 6, we were advised that we would not be ending in HongKong as planned, and were told to change our flights to leave from Singapore instead of HongKong and we would be reimbursed for change fees, would be refunded 10% of the cruise fee, and would receive a 25% future cruise credit.  We received this in writing.  On the third morning, we had arrived in Bangkok, the first port, and were lined up to leave on our excursion.  Several of us (approx. 83) were pulled out of line and escorted to a room, where the captain arrived an hour later and told us Vietnam wouldn't allow the ship to dock because our flights had transited through HongKong on the way to Singapore.  When asked what that meant, he said 'to put it bluntly, you all have to get off the ship'.  We were given 24 hours to book new flights out of Bangkok (BKK) to home in Canada, pack our belongings and leave. We received a letter promising that we would be refunded the full amount of the cruise, our dining and beverage packages, the cost of the new flights, and the cost of the taxi to get to BKK.  This was to be paid in 10 to 15 business days.

It has been over four months since I completed the form online, and I have written several emails, and all I have received are basically two boiler plate emails... "thank you for your patience".  The only funds I received were $150.08 Cdn for two excursions.

I am so disappointed and disillusioned by this, and am uncertain what to do at this point.  I am currently out of pocket approximately $6000 Cdn at this point plus the FCC.

I sympathize with your dilemma but can't give you any direction, other than to point out that you are just approaching the 90 day mark, depending on when you submitted your refund request - not 4 months.

Oh hahaha, thank you!  Feels like four months!  I submitted on Feb 10 so of course you are right 🙂

Anyone had a call from NCL today, I returned home to find a message from Yarrow at NCL UK regarding my FCC which is still in my account due to my TA not yet processing my refund for a cancelled cruise on March 16th, just thought it odd after yesterday's CNBC with Del Rio that now we are receiving calls to assist with the FCC not the refund lol!!

Most of us will vote with our feet, which are never stepping on another NCL cruise again..

If I get my refunds as requested and on time, I’ll remain a loyal NCL customer. These are unprecedented times and every company has struggled to adapt.

I too will continue to cruise with NCL as I love the ships, food, activities and crew. I just hope they actually come through 😞  Three months is a long time to wait and worry.
