Why so expensive RCCL ?

Recommended Posts

Checked prices on Oasis for sept 2021

Then saw a you tube video of the MSC  meriviglia

checked same balcony cabin and they are 800.00 less per person CAD

Why such a spread in prices , the ship looks fabulous and similar with a promenade .

RCCL is certainly not discounting yet .

Im pretty loyal to royal , but now I am not so certain .

Im probably not going to cruise until 2022 anyway , but wow .

I've sailed MSC twice, and have a 3rd booked for 2022 on the brand new Seashore. However, I still love RCCL also, and have the Odyssey booked for next December. MSC is a decent line with about 75% Europeans on a cruise, so having conversations at times can be challenging If you can live with that, then I believe you will enjoy the cruise. Food idn't quite up to Royal, and the entertainment, while good is generic due to the different languages. No Broadway shows. The ships are breathtaking and super clean, even before the pandemic. Go with an open mind, and save some money. I don't think you'll be sorry.

Royal has raised the prices or kept them high on some of the sailings that will most likely be cancelled.  Oasis out of NJ and the med on Allure are some areas that immediately come to mind.  My guess is it is to keep people from booking them cheap and then switching them to next year.

Many 2021 rates were cheaper on Royal last 6 months, previous 5weeks I received $4000+ if reductions. But last week many started jumping up. Many thousands transferring 2020 Cruises to 2021, rates increase as Cabins start filling up...

Don't be reluctant to try another cruise line... as a loyal to Royal D+, I finally did a couple of years ago after 30+ consecutive sailings on RC and am truly glad I overcame my ignorance/stubbornness to do so. I still came back to Royal with more cruises after. Had superb experiences on both lines, they both have their overwhelming strengths over each other.

couple of possible reasons. In general, MSC is not considered in the same rating class as RCCL.  not even close (RCCL has a middling rating).  See link below. This january 2020 rating has MSC dead LAST among major cruise lines.

"The Switzerland-based cruise line fell to the bottom of the 2020 ranking for the second year in a row with a score of just 57 percent, with its customer service and food ranking poorly."

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/best-cruise-lines-worst-viking-ocean-msc-which-a9303346.html

Also, let's assume all these people who had cruises cancelled from March to July mostly took the 125% credit and are now bidding up cruises later in the fall and into the winter.  supply and demand.

Exactly.  I'm actually surprised Royal allows the Lift & Sift on newly booked deals.

Big increase on my Dec Anthem cruise today...which I guess is a bad sign.

Why do you think it’s a bad thing? Have Anthem booked for 12/7/20.

Thinking maybe they will cancel and don't want people to book at lower price and then Lift & Sift.

Then again on the opposite side, maybe they have raised the price as it's more positive of sailing.

Hopefully all is a go for both of us.

Slick marketing... offer 125% FCC (to keep customers)

but raise those future cruise prices 150%, or more.

I was on Meraviglia for a week, beautiful ship, actually

puts all Royal ships to shame, except maybe Symphony.

Talking new tech, new car smell, but not the buffet.

Never saw, or smelled one shrimp the entire week in the buffet.

But, it was a great cruise, lots of shows, and Gene Young, was

CD... did a great job.

Problem I have living in S FL is Royal sort of abandoned Cozumel...

I mean they are fixated on Coco... My wife and I are not interested

in Coco... and the 3 or 4 night cruises to there.

So, for us, it is MSC or Symphony for 7 nights to Coz.

Cheers!
