I wonder about being in the hot sun all day if that affects your temperature.  Last year it was so hot in Mahogany Bay that everyone in my group was over heated to the point that we didn't get off the ship the next day.

I think core temperature should be good, there are sure ways to test your core temp.   Will you please go behind the curtain and bend over please, LOL

I don't know how that's possible if everyone tested negative.

If you are testing for the virus and you assume the test is positive, it requires you acquire enough virus to then extract and culture the respective RNA to confirm.

Someone who just got the virus that has yet to have the virus set in and replicate will likely be negative.   Then as the virus multiples and sets is when the test is most sensitive.    I think I'm reading that there is a peak for sensitivity and then you get either ill or go asymptomatic but still contagious, fun on a ship with thousands mingling and the pool, dining room, theater, etc. etc..

If it means getting back to cruising, I will gladly be thermally scanned all day!

Hmm, I have the exact opposite reaction. All the “protocols” being discussed make the “new normal” (how I hate that term!) seem like cruising will be an unpleasant experience. I don’t want to be monitored and treated like a threat in order to take a vacation. Lots of other ways to relax.

How will you feel if you somehow fail the “all day” (hourly?) thermal scan?

I’m definitely taking a “wait and see” approach. Perhaps I’m wrong, and things will return to the “old normal”. I hope so.

I totally agree. A temperature above the norm, is a clear indication of a sickness is going on, and possibly infectious and that's something a cruise ship does not need.

I don't want them jumping to conclusions. I wouldn't say it's a clear indication. Like I mentioned on page 1, I'm one of those people who often "runs hot." For example, if I'm outside working in the heat or physically exerting myself in some way, my core temp. rises pretty quickly and it takes me a bit to cool down. I described the scenario that happened to me at embarkation back in March. I know my temp. was above normal because that's just how I am. No illness involved, I was just exerting myself and got hot. Those little infrared thermometers read surface temperature, not body temp., so I'd expect them to dig a little deeper before denying someone for that.

I'm right there with you when it comes to the term "new normal." As far as I'm concerned, that's just something some politicians came up with to try to make it sound good when they hold on to the additional regulatory powers that they gave themselves thanks to the pandemic.

Someone mentioned the idea of using onboard facial recognition scanners that would work in conjunction with thermal scanners to make sure people get scanned once a day. Whoa! Hold your horses. Let's take a deep breath before going too far down the big brother road.

In March, they were checking temps. after we checked in and went through security, on the way to the waiting area.

On my Royal cruise in March, they checked everyone's temperature the minute they walked into the terminal.  This seems like a better way to do it.

Indeed. Ours was in Miami. By the time people made it to the temperature checker, someone who actually had it could've already exposed many others.

There is no new normal. It will just be normal. The good old days were never as good as people will remember them.

Facial recognition and automatic scanners only make sense and are more efficient to boot. For those worried about Big Brother, Brother Google and Brother Feds already know more about you than your mother ever did.

I saw this earlier this morning and didn't post anything as I figured someone may have already done so, but I still have seen anything on here. Do the thermal scanners get us a little closer to maybe sailing in August? Either way enjoy.

Should be no big deal and a nice tool to use. Went to a casino in CT yesterday and walked in and did not even realize the scan had been done. While DW was in the rest room i saw an watched the screen while others walked in. No definition just a colored body image. from where i was could not even tell if male or female

I have no issues with temperature scanners. I would however like to know what happens if you do have a fever and are denied boarding.

Will you get a full refund for your entire party (booked together) or maybe future cruise credit?

Will you get a refund or FCC for the person denied boarding only?

Will it be up to you to buy travel insurance to cover this situation?

1) The good ole days were far better than what's to come if we continue to grow more & more complacent to an overreaching govt. That's an unfortunate attitude you have there. Reminds me of the, "America was never great," crowd.

2) I take great care to protect myself online. Admittedly there's less that can be done about data mining by the govt. That doesn't mean we have to tolerate it. With that said, I'm going to get away from this particular side discussion because I have a feeling it won't be here long. I just felt compelled to respond because I don't like it when people say we should be good little compliant sheep.

I hope they're wise enough to understand that above normal temperature readings don't always mean a fever, so hopefully they'd take that person aside and do some additional screening before denying them outright. Like what I had mentioned before with me getting so hot at times, give me a chance to explain and wait a little bit to see that it wasn't a fever and I will, in fact, cool down.

The problem with a group of people is that, if a person has COVID-19 or is suspected of having it, their entire group has been exposed. Has the whole group been in close contact before arriving? Did they take precautionary measures? Those are things they could easily lie about if the rest were willing to go on the cruise without the person who was stopped. Are they going to deny the whole group? It's definitely going to bring up a new set of problems.

America has always been great with exceptions for the unfortunate. Some people are more reluctant than others to change, but evolution happens.

It doesn't matter if you are a sheep or a wolf. They are watching.

Exactly. Scanning people without slowing them down. There is high turnover in a land based casino, but the audience is captive on a cruise ship. Couple that with facial recognition software and you can intercept and start immediate tracing.

With the lack of social distancing going on, I doubt we will have it enforced on the ships.  I think its pretty obvious that the covid quarantine after 12 weeks was excessive and exaggerated. Note people were arrested on beaches not too long ago yet cities are being destroyed. My daughter cannot have her senior graduation outside in July but 3 candlelight vigils were held with over 1000 people with no masks or social distancing in the past 48 hours in my town.

My point is to show that this quarantine is obviously unnecessary at this time.

The rioters are doing an experiment. If there is no major second wave then the pandemic is over but if there is well we will see want happens.

Probably not enough rioters to make a difference.

There is already an uptick being seen and what was about 2 weeks ago? Oh yeah, Memorial Day with lots of people violating all the rules. You can't fix stupid.

At least many of the protestors are wearing masks.

I've been thinking the exact same thing for the past week. It will be interesting to note if any spikes occur because of riots/demonstrations. I hope nothing. But I have my reservations.

I like the progress I’m seeing. It’s like we’re pre-Covid here. I’m at a bar/restaurant for a little ufc 250. There’s not a single table closed. Not a single bar seat removed or skipped. Not a single person in this building with a mask.

By the looks of this we could be cruising tomorrow.
