Used FCC To Book. What Happens If Cancelled?

Recommended Posts

We have a cruise booked for October that I really don’t think is going to happen.  Since we booked using FCC I am wondering if there is any possibility that we will just be able to take a refund instead of another FCC?

I know no one can say for sure.....just wondering if anyone has any previous experience with this scenario?

I don't think we have any reports of a refund from a sailing paid with an FCC.

I was wondering the same.  We've got  a cruise for April 4 and concerned that the way things seem to play out with social distancing, etc. that his may limit the number of Paxs.  I'm hoping that they do not issue a replacement FCC for one used for this cruise.

You cannot get a refund for an applied FCC...that is very clear in the FAQ's.  You can get a refund for any cash paid over and above your FCC

TAs have been told that your original FCC will be re-instated with the same expiration date, or a minimum of one year, whichever date is later.

Any clue as to how quick that "reinstatement" of FCC will be (in case Royal cancels a cruise booked with FCC from an already cancelled prior cruise)?

Is it like waiting eternally for a new FCC? Or will it be the same FCC#s and the amount is adjusted? Sorry if I am confusing you.

Historically it was pretty quick, a 20 minute phone call.  In current times it's probably going to take longer than that.

Did this change or am I reading it wrong on the website. It now says you can get a refund for both sailings but It could mean if unused?

Only if the FCC is unused (not applied) can it be refunded

If your client redeemed a Cruise with Confidence Future Cruise Credit on an impacted sailing and would now prefer a refund instead, we are happy to process this request in the amount of any new funds paid above the original certificate and, in turn, will reinstate the Cruise with Confidence FCC for future use.

This is what I received from RCCL today:

Royal Caribbean

ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

Dear Guest,

We hope this email finds you healthy and safe and that with each passing day, we are closer to getting back to a more regular day-to-day.  While this is like nothing any of us have ever experienced, we continue to evaluate how it impacts our upcoming sailings and our return to service.

After consulting with our partners at Cruise Lines International Association and in conjunction with the CDC, we’ve now extended our global suspension through September 15th, 2020 and plan to set sail on September 16th, 2020 for most of our fleet. Unfortunately this means, your sailing will be cancelled.

While we all wish we were cruising, we do have some options for you, including an option that has been very well received by our guests, as it provides a little something extra to use once we all start cruising again! Here are your options:

1. 125% Future Cruise Credit: We’re providing you with a125% Future Cruise Credit to re-book a new cruise by December 31, 2021 for sailings departing on or before April 30th, 2022.

  • This amount will be based on your total cruise fare paid. And, we’re giving you a little extra, knowing that this is such a unique circumstance.
  • We will automatically issue you your Future Cruise Credit by July 31st, 2020 via email. So, there’s nothing for you to do!
  • Taxes & fees and any RoyalUp upgrades will be automatically refunded. Current refund processing is around 45 days. We are working as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience.
  • Please note:
    • If you opted into the Cruise with Confidence 100% Future Cruise Credit, this offer does not apply.
    • And, if you previously used a Future Cruise Certificate, you’ll receive a new Future Cruise Certificate. This will be for 125% of any new monies paid on this sailing, plus the reactivated value of your original certificate at 100% of its value, with an expiration date of December 31, 2021 and a sail by date of April 30, 2022.
    • If you were already impacted by a sailing that was previously cancelled due to a global suspension and paid additional monies on a new booking within this extended suspension period, you are still able to opt in to refund one or both cancelled bookings via the process below.

2. Lift and Shift: If you prefer to move your existing booking to a 2021 sailing - we’re happy to move you! We’ll price protect the original pricing and/or promotion on the same itinerary, length, product, and stateroom category as your original sailing within 4 weeks (before or after) of the original sail date in 2021. For example, if you are moving from a July 30, 2020 sailing, you must move to a sailing that is the same itinerary, length, and stateroom category, and the sail date should be between June 30, 2021 - August 30, 2021.

  • Please contact your Travel Advisor or call us by July 10th to move to a new sailing. If we don’t hear from you, we will automatically issue you a Future Cruise Credit.

3. 100% Refund: Or, if you prefer a full refund, which is a lower value than the future cruise credit offer above, we’re happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have until December 31, 2020 - to request a refund and deactivate your certificate.

  • Please contact us to start the refund process, forfeiting the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit.
    • To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel, click here and we will get the refund process started for you. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won’t be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind.
  • We’ll then deactivate your Future Cruise Credit and process your refund to your original form(s) of payment, which will include any non-refundable deposits.
  • You can expect to receive your refund 45 days after you submit your refund request.
  • Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we’ll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we’ll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate.

And, a special option for those that also purchased Cruise Planner Items…

  • You can opt-in to receive an Onboard Credit in the value of 125% of the total Cruise Planner purchases on your reservation.
    • Click here by July 10th, 2020 to request your higher value credit and we’ll email you your credit by July 31st, 2020.
  • If we don’t hear from you on or before July 10th, 2020, your Cruise Planner purchases will be automatically refunded. You’ll receive your refund within 45 days of your booking’s cancellation. We are working as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience during these unprecedented times.
  • Also, if you opt for a cruise fare refund or for Lift and Shift, you are not be eligible for this Cruise Planner Onboard Credit offer.
  • Questions about how the Cruise Planner credit? Click here for more details.

Guests with air or hotel booked…

  • Refundable air or hotel accommodations purchased through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded to you within 45 days after we process the cancellation.
  • If you booked non-refundable air through Royal Caribbean or booked on your own, please contact the service provider directly for your options with them.

I didn’t used a cruise with Confidence but a 125% FCC. Not sure if that matters? I appreciate all the information you share! Always helpful!!

The letter above states:

If you were already impacted by a sailing that was previously cancelled due to a global suspension and paid additional monies on a new booking within this extended suspension period, you are still able to opt in to refund one or both cancelled bookings via the process below.

This sure sounds like you can opt to take a refund on a previously cancelled booking, even if you had used that booking's FCC towards the newly cancelled booking.  Otherwise, why would it say you can opt in to a refund on both bookings?

See post 9.  That is from the cancelled sailings FAQ’s

Oh right, if YOU cancelled there's no getting your money back, but if THEY cancelled twice you can change your mind and get a refund.

No idea where you are getting that from because the FAQ’s I posted are not even  close to your statement.

The letter from RC posted above states EXACTLY that.

Well then one of the two pieces of information that they had posted is clearly wrong.

That's not a surprise for RC 🙂

Maybe the FAQ is out of date as when it was written, this situation had not occurred?

It does make sense that you should be able to revert back to getting a cash refund... after all you've done the right thing by Royal in taking FCC and then booking another cruise.

We could be in the same situation... Our March sailing was cancelled. Took the FCC and then booked a December sailing which we applied the FCC on. If that gets cancelled, we may simply want to scrap the whole thing, especially as we already have another cruise booked for October 2021 with another line.

The FAQ’s came from the same page that listed the latest round of cancellations.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Someone posted updated information so

maybe...

Latest policy - . What if my client used a Future Cruise Credit to pay for their cancelled cruise?
If a Future Cruise Credit was leveraged to pay for a reservation now impacted by the suspension of cruising,
we are making it easy for your client by combining all funds into one voucher. The value of the original FCC
will now be added to the new FCC at 100% of its original value, plus 125% of any amount paid by the guest on
the cancelled sailing. Regardless of the original FCC’s expiration date, the new FCC is valid through December
31, 2021, at which time all unused funds will expire. Should your client prefer a refund, we are happy to
process this request for any funds paid over-and-above the original FCC value, plus reissuance of the
original FCC. In a unique scenario where your client may have been impacted by multiple phases of
suspended sailings where his/her original Sailing Suspension FCC was redeemed on a newly impacted
reservation, a full refund is feasible. Assuming the terms of the original FCC are met, the refund amount will
equate to the value of the cruise fare at 100% and will not include the incremental 25% earned through the
original selection of a Future Cruise Certificate.

Thanks for the update.

By the sounds of this it will only apply to FCC's that were the result of cancelled sailings.  If you used a FCC that wss obtained because the guest cancelled under the CWC then they would have the FCC restored and could get a refund on new cash added to the booking

That is how I read it. Guess I may try once things settle down. I’m not in a rush as now we are looking at cruises out of San Juan this winter

That sounds correct, and is also a fair way to deal with the issue.
