crews still stuck on ships and we argue about our next cruise?

First, I am in the same boat (pun intended) as everyone else.  I have 2 NCL cruises booked next January and March.   my question to the group is, do we really think we will be cruising this year when cruise lines have yet to repatriate thousands of their crews?  How will they get crew back to these ships to prepare them from either cold or warm storage and get ready to cruise again by 10/1 when most international flights are restricted.  I don't expect my cruise to start yet this year.  I try to be optimistic but there is a great deal of uncertainty also.

Many crew have made it home, although a long time waiting for it.  I imagine they are making preparations and have hiring ramped up for replacement crews. But I am sure there is a lot of "hurry up and wait"... will they reach an agreement with the CDC, States and ports to operate?  Will they be able to fly people in to work... or will the passengers be able to fly in? Officer rotation will be required.  The logistics to restart a ship with a largely new crew is tremendous!  I would think they need crew aboard several weeks to train and be retrained even if the have prior experience.  That suggests replacement crews and officers in place October 1... Just a little more than 60 days from now?  Seems... doubtful to me.

 

I am starting to agree with the crowd saying no cruises until perhaps January.

My only hope is that the cruise industry adopts a strict no compromise attitude, zero tolerance, I believe a blueprint will be in place for cruises April/May 2021.

I cannot see any cruising for the rest of this year at least with the increase/return of Covid19 in a number of countries.

I'd say no cruises till middle of 2021 at the earliest for anyone from the USA or Americas.  The New World is really blowing it here.

I am inclined to partially concur, especially for the North America ports for embarkation and disembarkation.  Given how other countries in the rest of the world, Asia & EU, that a phased & limited scale to begin ramp up some cruises ... could be probable. 

 

The "Escape" left Miami, Florida in May on a crew repatriation mission in May via Europe, finally reached Singapore and from the latest AIS tracking data, should reach Manila Bay in a few days on its final stop to release the crew to go ashore - upon testing & local clearance, screening & isolation/quarantine, etc. - on their homeward bound journey.  

 

Maybe, just maybe, there will be a long line of prospective & experience crew queued up and ready to sail again, if and when NCL is ready to recall them to "exit" their warm laid up by this Fall.   Maybe, maybe not.  

 

There are good reasons for why the cruise lines secured financing for an extension duration of not sailing.  You and I likely feel the same about the odds.  Others are free to disagree.

As much as I find it difficult to believe that the cruise lines would miss out on the Holiday sailings, I have cancelled my cruise departing in January.

Just my opinion, in order for cruise ships to begin sailing, cruise lines are going to need to submit a "small donation" to the current US administration. It's just the way things work now...

I would like to rebook another cruises but will not do so until I see any NCL ships sailing.

Already 2 cruises cancelled this year by NCL.

And today, the city I live in - said no large gathering (50+) until Feb. 2021.

You might be right as the U.S. have no strict rules / control over people. Not like other countries where they lockdown. If they are lockdown, it really lockdown as in not going outside of the house. They also have an app too. It hard over here in the USA as not a lot of people would follow rules. Look at all those riots, protesting, etc.

Micky Arison, chairman of Carnival Corporation, is a friend and supporter of POTUS, (Carnival was a sponsor of Trump's reality show "The Apprentice") but I haven't seen any of the Carnival lines being given permission to sail from US ports.

What ports to you plan on sailing to? Many closing up to cruise ships for the year. Be prepared to be flexible.

And if many saying no cruises are "right"?  Reality is better than fantasy/expectations. Even Seaman11 with all his positivity finally came to the realization he wasn't cruising for awhile.

As much as people want to sail or vacation , it's not a best case senario. 

 

Houston "We have a problem"  can be expanded to US "We have a problem ".

I wish you the best, BUT currently Hawaii has these rules in place:

 

PRE-TRAVEL TESTING PROGRAM: Beginning September 1, all travelers arriving in Hawaii from out-of-state will be required to get a valid COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) within 72 hours of boarding their flight to Hawaii, and to show proof of a negative test result upon arrival at the airport, to avoid the 14-day quarantine. The FDA-approved NAAT test from a CLIA-certified laboratory will need to be done prior to arrival. No testing will be provided upon arrival at the airport.
