CCL has been obtaining loans at lower interest than 11% lately. Some of their debt has been pushed out to 2029.

They still have to repay those debts and as their fleet gets smaller, common sense tells you the price of cruises will likely increase to generate enough profit to remain viable.

The video posted was from June? I don't know if that makes a big difference. Also don't know if the troubles of Hurtigruten recently will change Carnival's plans. As far as I've read, Mein Schiff II hasn't run into problems; someone posted on Celebrity ref live Mein Schiff II short cruise. I wonder if those passengers will be contacted going forward to see if positives popped up after disembarkation. Hopefully those who are successful will share with those who still have problems. A process, slower than we want, I know.

The video was referencing the fact Carnival stated that Covid will be gone in October...

Carnival is still in a much better position than other cruise lines to repay those debts. AD has already said not to expect bargains. I would also expect them to get passengers to increase on board spend.

Do you seriously think Carnival determines that? They probably also state hurricane season ends Nov 30. Hurricanes don't know they have a season.

In theory, the $600 OBC is the better deal for regular cruisers. There goes your gratuities, all or some of your drinks, and maybe even a few more enjoyable purchases for yourself while pocketing money. I could care less about being tied into a store credit. I already committed that money to cruising and if it's later, I'm ok with that. If this was a few month deal, I'd jump on this offer in a heartbeat.

With that said, the option becomes less and less attractive to me the longer this uncertainty goes on. The more cruising supply is restricted, the more ships they unload, among other factors, creates a future cruising price which can be unpredictable and potentially much higher. Obviously, the OBC could help offset that, but could also make the entire cruiser unreasonable in the first place. Also, the longer they continue to not sail, the more unstable they become financially. How does it all look if there is a bankruptcy?

The longer their "PAUSE" is, the more cruisers are going for that $600 onboard credit.

By the time they start sailing again, you have to assume many will have it. So, the spa & steakhouse reservs, excursions, gift shop, etc will be crazy on day1. Many more than usual will have the unlimited drink cards-so the bars may get really crowded.

The longer the pause the higher the likely hood is for reorganizing. If only to protect themselves from creditors.

That carrot dangling in front of the horse ($600 OBC) would likely go by the wayside. It's a marketing tool to get pax from requesting refunds.

Nothing is ever free , no company can hand out free money in this case and be profitable. The consumer will pay for it in the end.

Who is the horse?😏  The consumer always pays, if there is a change coming in the “new” process, it will be NCL that leads the way.  While sad, it certainly is not boring to see how different lines are approaching the Armageddon.

And sadly wasn’t there only 180 pax on the Norway cruise?

When US cruises Start with 50% (?) capacity that’s approx 2,000 pax- Scary!

What about using $600 OBC in the casino at Carnival?

Is that still allowed?

will it be stopped when they resume cruising?

Clever how that works - you can't buy Cheers in advance using OBC, so won't get the discount on the program. Can't get a rebate charging shore excursions to the Barclay Carnival Card. Or internet access. You'll miss out on any Spa pre-sale discounts. Many cruisers will look at it as monopoly money and blow through it and more

Probably, however his statement was over-generalized.

Yes and I doubt it. Casinos are a great money grabber.

I'm surprised that ccl hasn't cancelled oct cruises yet. Seems like by now the next round would have been announced. My oct 4th still says its sailing.

Yep, we still have our Oct - Hawaii 15 nites on the Miracle. We know that will be our next refund request. (But our last refunds, for the Mardi Gras, only took 10 days!)

Likely waiting for the CDC to cancel them first.

yes I was...  Uncruise does not fall under CDC'S orders!!   They only needed permission from the coast guard..

What happens if someone previously had their cruise cancelled, received the $600 OBC, rebooked for October and then had their oct. cruise cancelled? Will Carnival then offer an additional $600 credit ($1200 total)?

No.
