Where was I?

Recommended Posts

I have done a quick calculation. To date we have had photos from almost 60 countries, including Island groups of some, some major waterways, many National parks. Even if you don't know the location, it is great to see where others have been.

And I started this thread less than a month ago! Wow!

I'm really pleased how everyone has contributed to this thread. It's been wonderful seeing all the amazing places people have been to, and I hope there will be many more to come.

Thanks, everyone. 😊😘

Just now, getting older slowly said:

mount fuji at a guess

We have a winner! Taken on our flight from Tokyo to Ishigaki. I found a recommendation for which side of the plane to sit though they did say the best viewing chance was in winter however we seem to have got very lucky😄.

At the moment I only have access to photos taken out of airplanes, so hopefully this one will be easy enough. Name the mountain:

WOW Great photo.  Fancy having such a great view of Mount Fuji from your plane window.  The best close mountain view I had from a plane was that mountain on US West Coast with the side blown out.

My thoughts are with all those currently suffering bush fires on west coast states of US.

We cruised around Iceland in September 2016, with 3 ports, on a transatlantic cruise. We caught the northern lights and saw some spectacular scenery, many natural and geological wonders. Godafoss was just one of many but is perhaps one of the more well known ones.

Legend has it's name is derived due to a switch to Christianity:

Linguist and placename expert Svavar Sigmundsson suggests that the name derives from two crags at the falls which resemble pagan idols. In 1879-1882, a myth was published in Denmark according to which the waterfall was named when the lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland in the year 999 or 1000. Upon returning home from the Alþingi, Þorgeir supposedly threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall.

We did a driving trip around Iceland during the midnight sun, (though I really want to go back and see the Northern Lights🤗). I remembered Godafoss and Hrafnabjargafoss so I thought it had to be one of them. Iceland is in my top five favourite destinations😄 I love the place.
