Good morning fellow cruisers. At last there is hopefully light at the end of the tunnel! What are the thoughts of all you cruusers? Myself and other half being over 75 are quite optimistic but not sure about next June cruise to Med due to their covid  nunbers.

I’ve made quite a lengthy post on the ‘Who has Registered for 2022’ thread this morning about this, so won’t repeat all my thoughts here, but given your age it now looks very hopeful that you will be vaccinated in time for your June cruise, if it goes ahead (because I think it’s probably 50/50 that it will). The problem will be that most people probably won’t be vaccinated by then, so restrictions will almost certainly still apply, even if cruises have resumed.

I would expect that every country will now be planning their vaccination roll out programmes, that should begin to have an effect on the transmission everywhere.  

We just have to hope that the other front runner vaccines also prove as effective and also become available quickly.  If so in 6 months time, especially in the N hemisphere as the weather warms up, we should be seeing significant improvements across the whole of Europe.

Hi...yes Selbourne made some valid points on " Who has registered for 2022".

Th vaccine certainly gives a ray of hope but at this point we are very doubtful as to our cruise in October 2021 ...I think there will be still too many restrictions in place for us personally to deal with.

We are pre registering for 2022 as I like to remain optimistic but my reality side makes me think that we may not even go on them but they can be changed or at the worst walk away and lose the " small" deposit.

 

As far as this particular potential vaccine is concerned  we are in the age group were we may be some of the first to be offered it but I am not sure if I am willing to be a guinea pig and with it being the first not sure of any potential side effects and also subsequent vaccines will improve on this one....so I may hang fire before I accept this first  vaccine

Whilst I understand your reluctance, the ‘guinea pig stage’ is the third and final stage of testing and this has happened and been successful. No vaccine will be approved for use in UK unless this third stage testing proves the vaccines work safely. 
Later vaccines may improve on the Pfizer one and if so, they may well be used in future years instead, after all, like the flu vaccine, it is likely to be an annual vaccination. Testing has included vaccinating people who have already had the flu vaccine to ensure that they are both safe together.

The vaccine is great news and our cruise next July looks more promising whether or not I have been vaccinated.

Personally, I would prefer my son and daughter were vaccinated before me as they go out and about socialising much more.

As do our adult daughters but, of course, if they get the virus it will probably be like having a bad cold whereas for those of us over 50 it could be game over or long term residual health problems. I always put my kids before myself but as far as the vaccine goes I think different rules apply.

There have been no adverse reactions in any of the 20000 people in the trial that received the vaccine. And the preliminary results show over 90% efficacy. If you're waiting for better than that, you could be waiting a long time. The minimum efficacy required to submit for regulatory approval is 50% so this news from Pfizer really is incredible. I'll be amazed if things aren't pretty much normal by next summer at the latest.

I'm in the process of moving my October 2021 Cunard cruise forward to 2022. This morning I've emailed my travel agent for some quotes on the cruise we are interested in.

 

I think the news on the vaccine yesterday was excellent , but I'm not expecting any quick changes to our socially distanced mask wearing life.  I fall into the 'Over 60's' group, so there will be lots of people who will get the vaccine  before me. I would expect to be 'done' next summer at the earliest.

 

I'm expecting life to improve next year, but I think any cruises will still be subject to the restrictions that have been proposed and discussed.

 

Therefore, I hope for some nice UK breaks in 2021, and with any luck, a big cruising year in 2022

I love your optimism, but I think most people will be equally amazed if they are! The vaccine is without doubt great news but news is all it is at present. The roll out will take a very long time, even with all possible resources geared up for it, so I fear that 2021 will still be heavily impacted by the virus, but hopefully in a far less damaging way than 2020 has been. I am hopeful that by 2022 it will mostly be a bad memory and the experts who are saying that, even with a vaccine, it will take at least 5 years to get back to normal are proved wrong.

No vaccine is guaranteed 100% effective, so 90% to me sounds positive. I have my flu jab every year without fail, and that is only about 70% effective on average.

If you tell your GP you aren't interested in having the jab, it will help in their planing. You can then let them know when you find one that is acceptable. Personally that means more for me. If I have 2, or 3 the chances of them working improve.

I lined up for  a few jabs in the RN so certainly won't quibble having a Covid jab. Those that don't want one give me more chance in climbing the queue.

Fair enough, but I'm quite happy to wait, unless cruise lines insist passengers have to be vaccinated to board.

The odds are I'll kill or injury myself more likely skiing than die from Covid.

There are certainly many pessimistic, doom and gloom and depressing merchants on this forum and if you believed everything they say many would be cutting their wrists. I am more of an optimist and think certainly by summer if roll out of vaccine has been successful there would be no need for social distancing and mask wearing restrictions. One thing I think should happen is there should be proof of vaccination and if you have not had the vaccine then you shouldnt be allowed to book a cruise.

I have no reservations about getting the vaccine.  I will go for the first one that is approved by the powers that be in this country because although I am taking part in the phase 3 tests for one of the vaccines and will be having my second dose tomorrow I obviously don't know whether I have been the vaccine or the placebo.

I strongly believe that vaccination is going to be the only way that we will get back to anything like normal.

Not me  bring it on, but I have no intention of jumping the gun , Cruisenewbie's sentence sums it up nicely  .."wait and see" !

We haven't known about it 24 hours and some people are 2nd guessing the future of the vaccine.

There's nothing wrong with that but we need to wait and see the outcome.

I hope the outcome is swift and we get to say goodbye to covid and it goes to where it is needed first .

To be honest people wanting a jab so they can go cruising will be well down the pecking order but as with everything their turn will come.

The future of these jabs is only just arriving but the future looks bright .

Not a fact but more of a vision .. Does anyone else think that maybe in years to come that 

they may even adapt  a vaccine for our pets such as dogs & cats ?

This would lower any chance of the virus ever living close by to us and the resistance being bred into our future pets .

If having the jab leads to less restrictions, great. So those who don't want the jab can stick with the current restrictions. No cruise
