For me number one is: date, cruiseline and ship.

We decide when we want to cruise and right now it must be a MSC ship with Yacht Club.

After that we look at itineraries and price.

Hello Sverigecriser, do MSC still award equal status to NCL Platinum?

Once our C Next vouchers are used we will be moving elsewhere.

I don't know. I was matched to Black for my Platinum status on NCL but that was when Platinum was the highest level. I don't think that Platinum is matched to MSCs highest level now.

Itinerary- somewhere warm, preferably with some places I haven't been before

Price- I need a good deal plus book the cheapest cabin (which means I give up all the perks except the shore excursions)

Date- pretty much limited to the first two weeks in January because of my job and hobby

First of all, thank you for the FUN and POSITIVE thread! How fun to read everyone’s answers...and thanks for keeping it going!

I, too, love Freestyle cruising, but my “freestyle” is making reservations as soon as they open for everything. I don’t want to eat at a set time (especially if we’re still in port), nor dine with the same strangers every night, but I do want to wait as little as possible and plan, plan, plan! I realize this is the antithesis of the Freestyle concept, but it works for me!

Oddly enough, we don’t really like the big ships, but that’s the direction NCL seems to be going. Now that our little guy is 17, and not so little any more, we may be looking for a new line. But he has a strong connection to NCL from many trips from ages 5-16, so he chose it again for his graduation trip this summer (yes, negative lurkers, I know it probably won’t go, I have a backup plan, but let me dream! I promise I won’t make the final payment unless we know it’s happening).

Okay let's do a new question.... What is the ONE thing you love most about Norwegian specifically?

#1 think is Freestyle, I only wear suits for marriages and funerals.
#2 for me is Haven, and while other lines have similar things (that I need to try), NCL was my first experience like that, so I am probably always going to be biased in favor of their offering

I beg you to please look again.  Most of the mainstream lines seem to be moving to ships that hold 6000 plus pax BUT NCL.  Their next set of ships actually hold less then the AWAY and AWAY-PLUS ships, about 3300-3500 is the rumored number.

What I love about NCL is being able to sing karaoke almost every night; my wife loves the Thermal Spa package.  We both love just being able to sit down for a nice meal whenever we want. We are not that fussy.  Its a great pleasure not having to worry about shopping for the food, cooking or cleaning.  Just looking at the menu and deciding what we want.

Today's question: What is most important to you when booking a cruise?

  • The Dates
  • The Itinerary
  • The Ship
  • Other (Please Specify!)

The Itinerary first, than the dates, than the ship and we always book a balcony!

We don't mind flying to our port of call as we always spend an extra day or two there prior to sailing so we can explore more!

I love this thread.  I had almost given up on reading the boards as it was getting to depressing after cancelling cruises.  A few days ago we decided to book a Hawaii cruise for 2023.  Figuring by then this Covid mess would be over with and it would not be cancelled.  If it opens up before that we can always book another.  At least this one seems plausible.

What I miss most is the time away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.  That I can leave all stress at my front door the minute I pull out of the driveway and not think about it again until I walk back in.  I miss the smiles of the people on the ship (staff and cruisers).  I miss that 1st drink by the pool the day we embark and of course all the places we get to see.

Favorite menu items I miss are...Oh who am I kidding, the fact that I dont have to cook makes everything a favorite.

Keep up the positive posts and soon we will all be sailing again

Ship! I only cruise the Jewel Class ships so I look to see where they are going. Then I eliminate any cruises that are less than 10 days.

I am due for my 2nd dose of Moderna in 17 days. What I miss most:

**Daily 1 hour walk around the full Promenade Deck starting just before sunrise.

**Mid-afternoon chocolate chip cookie and hot cup of tea at the Great Outdoors.

**Being totally disconnected from my cell phone. When I board, I set it on airplane mode. Put it in the safe and don't take it out until the night before disembarkation to charge the battery. I just don't like the bother of having it in my hand or pocket. Freedom from the phone.

Big LOVE for the second dose coming soon!  I wish I could get mine right now, but a little too young, and a little too healthy, so I will wait my turn.

Ok, let me share a positivity with you people:

1) Make sure to wake up early and drink some water

2) Find the most comfortable place in your home and jump in there

3) take out your smart phone and just search for funny videos on your phone

This is what my doctor told me to do daily to avoid stress

Its good cause they have isolated rooms and with some nice sound and voice blockers from the outside. You can sing there all night long not worring about other passengers being angry at you for being too lound =D

We like:

  1. Never having to go to a buffet, and having a menu with full service at breakfast and dinner
  2. Booking dinner reservations online in advance
  3. All the other things - great ports, fun excursions, lots of bars on ship, good entertainment ...
  4. And finally, being around other passengers who are as happy as we are just being on a cruise!

I am so glad the thread is giving you happiness! That's why I started it. Too easy to sink into the depression and so much to be positive about 🙂

@Trimone MSC now match Platinum to Gold, it was matching to Black (now Diamond) but since October 2018 both Platinum and Platinum+ match to gold unfortunatly, but gold is well worth having.

Remember though, unlike NCL loyalty program, MSCs expire if you have not sailed in the last 3 years.

It is assumed the Ambassador level caused the change and Ambassador will now match to diamond but nobody at that level have confirmed.

Last minute cruises.   The waiving of the solo supplement so a single cruiser only pays for one fare.  Will be a thing from the past now.✌️

To us, it's the offers from the Casino. 😅 It's much more flexible than say RCCL.

Yes Freestyle cruising, too.  But other lines are starting to adapt. We could go to the MDR anytime they're open during our 2019 cruise on the Ovation of the Seas but NCL's is still smoother.  Overall NCL provides a better dining experience than RCCL.
