I'm sure that was sticker shock for many but I would have at least offered to pay for one of the bottles and explain I would not be able to join in again. The payment method/protocol was the four’s suggestion, not ours. We did the polite thing by offering to be first. If interested, they were from Pembroke in Wales, working in the oil industry.

Years ago, when everything on Celebrity was Excellent, the dinnerware had the Celebrity logo. The tables were set so that each logo faced the same direction. My sons thought that was very interesting and they immediately turned things around....because.....the staff immediately turned it back. This was an ongoing family joke.

My Wife and I on the first night of a Celebrity cruise, a table for 6, introductions etc., all going well. Sommelier arrived, wine discussions as to who, what where. Agreed for each couple to take turns in buying the wine for t(e whole table. With great input from the other four with suggestions and assistance from the Sommelier wine ordered, 1 white, 2 red, 1 dessert then a round of cocktails. Bill presented, viewed, signed. Enquiry from a male dinner companion as to the value of the receipt, asking to view. Passed, read, shown around. Asked who’s honour for tomorrow, calling the Sommelier over. Table silent, Sommelier stood waiting, then left along with the four in silence. Next evening only my Wife and I were the only guests seated. No message or excuses. Never saw them again on the Ship. Strange? That's why we always choose/prefer a private table. We wouldn't like to be taken for a ride paying for other peoples drinks. Nor would be like to be pressured into buying expensive wine, just because the others were doing it Edited March 7, 2021 by drsel

I sometimes cruise alone and when I do, I wait a few days after having met a few folks before deciding to join any table if/when invited. Had a situation similar to drakes2 (not the wine part) obnoxious blowhards though, so I am perfectly comfortable and content in dining alone. As a general rule you can't be ordering drinks for others who don't have the package.

Several years ago I went on a cruise as the guest of a friend, she was a HUGE gambler, actually bought her home in So Cal because of it's close proximity to big casino in the area. She got one of the casino cruises and upgraded to a lovely suite with butler etc. She actually spent most of her time in the casino when it was open, even to the point of saying she was "not feeling well" to get off at many of the ports and this was a 14 day cruise. After having blown through apparently many thousands of dollars in the casino, they stopped her line of credit. Her $10,000 monthly alimony deposit was due soon but not until after the cruise ended and she went in panic mode. We were sitting on the pool deck with a bunch of friends we had made during the cruise and she decided to call her ex to ask him to advance the $ and he would not do it. She went absolutely ballistic on the deck in front of everyone, cursing him out etc, security came and asked her to go to the room to cool off. On the last day of the cruise, I said OK lets give this crew some good tips, our butler, room steward and everyone else, treated us like a king and a queen. Her answer...after the way I have been treated here no (fill in the blank) way! I reminded her that she just blew through thousands of dollars and we had a fantastic cruise with great staff that treated us so well. She would not budge, though I did and I made sure that all were rewarded and thanked for what they did. On disembarkation day, oh the looks we got. Needless to say we are no longer friends.

Such a waste, but better safe than sorry. We finally stopped going to Oceanview. Perhaps with the new health and safety measures we might try again. As I have said, I do view it as entertainment, the antics people pull for tables, seating, acting like they will never eat again, mounds of food never eaten and left on tables. I do not eat at the buffet, any buffet, thus I do not feel the need to be the food police, I suppose if I did I might feel differently. I go for the pure entertainment value the buffet show provides me.

I am now asking the question "What is the Strangest Thing that you personally have done on board a cruise ship? 😀 Hahahaha Well... I wouldn’t say it was a strange thing I did on a cruise... probably normal... but memorable When I was teen in the 80s I went on a cruise with my family. I got involved with the teen club activities on board and had a great time. Well, I had a little “cruise ship romance” with another young teen. Anyway, they would set up times in the dance club for the teens to go dance... lots of fun... and on the last night I had a slow dance with my little cruise ship romance dude before we had to say “goodbye”. I thought it was the best... like I was on The Love Boat. So To this day, anytime I hear “Hands To Heaven” by Breathe, I think about that kid. 😊
