Good morning.  I am one of those who would like to pick either standard or daylight and stay with it. As I get older the time shift gets harder for me. Dogs did not really seem to notice any change this morning but our usual walk is coming up shortly. Not due to the time change.... the weather. We had a light snow last list night that left ice on the driveway. I don't like ice, so we cut our morning outing very short. The sun is out now so everything should be clear.

Have stopped in Juneau twice on cruises and also visited many years ago when I was young, spry and doing some archaeology. Juneau was our departure point by bush plane into the site. Was there for 3 months. Loved Alaska and still do. Hope another cruise is in my near future.

Wow, that is a CLOSE encounter!  I think I prefer sighting them when there is a good, deep channel of water between me and them.  😉

Good morning.  Love seeing butterflies, and we enjoy potato chips.  The meal sounds good, but since we will be heading to Texas in a little more than a week, we are cleaning out the freezer, so tonight will tempura shrimp and French fries cooked in the air fryer.

I took an advertising course in college during the time "You Can't Eat Just One" potato chip ad campaign was running.  One day, the professor handed a few of us two potato chips with instructions to eat just one.  If we still had the other at the end of the class, he would take us to the Student Union for coffee.  We all still had the second chip.

Since we always still have birthday cake on Pi day, I don't make a pie to celegrate the day.  That would be a sweets overload.

I will join those who would like to stick to standard time.  Usually, the time change does not affect us if we are in Arizona.  With the exception of the Navajo Nation, Arizona, along with Hawaii, does not go on daylight savings time.  However, the non-network tv programs change times.

@superoma  We were on the 2012 Amsterdam cruise with you.

@DeeniEncinitas Lovely picture.

@VMax1700  Sorry your son was injured, but it sounds like he is on the mend.  Sweet of him to try to not worry your DW.

We have been to Juneau on at least 12 cruises, plus we have driven to Alsaks seven times in our motorhome..

To get out of the Texas summer, we started doing b2b2b2b cruises.  Also, we found that doing 2 or more b2bs, we have a better chance for good weather (meaning clouds, no rain) at least once in each port.  In 2018, Alaska was having a heatwave in the southeastern part of the state, so we had tremendous weather all but the last time in Juneau.

Our first cruise there, we took a helicopter flight to Taku glacier. We landed on the glacier and when we took off, the pilot flew through some wide crevasses.  Unfortunately, those pictures are in a photo album in Texas.  For the most part, I tried to pick pictures a little off the beaten path.

The first two are from Douglas Island, taken the day we rented a car.  Volendam was with the Zaandam that day.

We saw this statue as we came across the bridge back into Juneau.

In 2015, we were on Statendam for her final call in Juneau before heading to Singapore and then to Australia.

Lenda

Did you by any chance come to the meet and greet on august 11? We had a good turnout and for some reason it got me a session with Henk and a later invitation to a captain’s party.

Visited Juneau on May 28, 2008. DH (who never does any trip planning) got an offer from American Airlines for Princess cruises and cruisetours in Alaska. A mini-suite was recommended (just $50 pp more than a verandah) and we could do our own pre-cruise itinerary. In Juneau we did an introductory ship's tour: Douglas Island, Mendenhall Glacier and Auke Lake. We opted to end the tour in "downtown" and toured the Alaska State Museum.

Good morning.  Great list of days...Potato chips and Children's crafts...they go together at my house.

Recipe sounds great.  I need to look for the chutney.

We have been to Juneau at 3 times.  Last in September 2019.  We rented a car  and drove over the bridge and north.  Found some great walking trails.  Came back and went to the Glacier and walked some more.  It was a low key pleasant day.  I love to cruise Alaska as it is an easy drive for us to board the ship in Seattle.  Don't have to worry about packing...can take all I want!!

I agree about staying on one time..Oregon, WA, and I think California have been discussing staying on DST.  I think Oregon's legislature passed the proposal.  Some of you may know more about that than I do.

Headed to get the granddaughter's birthday treat and then pick her up to spend the day.  She actually had a social distancing and mask wearing birthday party yesterday.  It also involved riding horses so I can hardly wait to hear all about it.  Pictures were priceless.  I am so glad it happened as all she could talk about was how she missed her bday celebration last year and was sure it wouldn't happen this year.  Nice to see a few things getting back to normal.

Have a great day everyone.  Thank you Rich and Roy for all the info.  Prayers for safety to everyone.

Greeing Rich.  Today is LAETARE SUNDAY, the 4th Sunay of Lent.  My Vestments were ROSE colored today as opposed to Violet.  Thanks for the fleet Report.  I sure wish the ships were sailing again. With the exception of 2020 and  2003, I have been to Juneau every year since 1997.  Hope to get there this year but it doesn't look good. Roy thanks for the daily care list.  Summer slope, I always learn the drinks from you.  Thanks to all the many readers and contributors to this thread.

Good morning.  Love there is a Children's Craft day.  They are so creative.  Potato Chips are my second favorite snack.  We have a special place in our Eco park for butterflies.  The quote is so true.  We loved Juneau when we visited.  It was very cloudy so pictures from the top of the mountain are not good enough to share. I'll see if I can find others to post later. Prayers and toasts for our lists.

Stay safe, social distance, and wear your mask.

Raspberry Rose Cocktail:

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 1⁄2 cups frozen raspberries
  • 1 1⁄2 cups water
  • 3⁄4 cup  Pure Cane Granulated Sugar
  • 1 bottle (750 mL) rosé
  • 1⁄2 cup fresh raspberries, to serve

Directions
  • Step 1
In a medium pot over medium heat, add the frozen berries and water. Cook for 10 minutes, then add the sugar. Allow to boil for 5 minutes, then reduce heat to low and cook for 2-4 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  • Step 2
Put the berries in a blender and puree. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the pureed berries into a large pitcher.
  • Step 3
Pour the rosé over the berries, then stir to combine.
  • Step 4
Serve with fresh raspberries. Refrigerate leftovers.

Now that sounds good. I hope it is not too sweet.

Good morning all!

I'm really late today, woke up super early, and then went back to sleep another hour and a half!  Page 4, I had a lot to catch up on 🙂

We've done tons of childrens' crafts around here, especially when we were babysitting the grandsons twice/week a year ago.  Love butterflies, especially in my garden.  I have a photo (somewhere!) of a gorgeous Monarch sitting on one of my lilies, but of course couldn't find it.  Love potato chips (so much I can't have them in the house) and DST doesn't bother me especially since we retired.

We've been to Juneau twice, our first cruise in 2004 we went kayaking.  We had never kayaked before, and actually went again in Ketchikan.  It was lots of fun!  The second time in Juneau was May of 2019, we did the 12-day Denali trip with my best friend and her DH.  The day in Juneau we rented a car, drove to Eagle Beach and then to Mendenhall Glacier and walked to Nugget Falls.

Let's see if I can make this work, captioning the photos 😉

Thank you for the year's first DST Daily, Rich.  A great selection of days.  Don't get involved much with children's crafts these days.  I have a lot to learn about butterflies.  I will certainly celebrate potato chip day tonight.  So true on the quote.  I'm sure we will have a lot of reports on Juneau today, I may post on the "other" Juneau port.  I'll be interested  to learn more about the meal suggestion.  My alternative is Chilled Melon Gazpacho, Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad, and Dutch Apple Pie.

Good morning, Dailyites!😀  Strangely enough, I dreamt about potato chips last night...  I dreamt I found a brand new bag of Lay's behind the sofa, and when I woke up I did check there, in case it was a real memory.  But it wasn't.☹️

We have been to Juneau 5 times, four on cruises, and once when DD was flying out of Haines, we were visiting her there and she flew us down for the day.  My best thing:

Good morning everyone!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy.

I love potato chips, my favorite new flavor is a scallop potato from Trader Joe’s. I love butterflies and we usually have several fly around the pool in the summertime.  I am not crafty so I’m not good with children’s crafts.

We don’t change time so never have to worry about that.  I don’t mind changing time when traveling though. When I was young, living in rural Colorado, I went to Sunday School with our neighbors, they lived in a house attached to their business, a mortuary.  One Sunday I walked across the street, all dressed up , knocked at the door and no one was ready. I was an hour early, my parents forgot to change the clocks.

I will pass on the meal suggestion. I pulled a few things out of the freezer and also have a corned beef to cook soon, I may make it before St Patrick’s Day.

We have been to Juneau twice , August 2012 and June 2019, both on the Oosterdam. DH may have been there with his father back in 2000, I’ll have to ask him.

I don’t have the 2012 pictures on my phone and will look for those later. We were in Juneau on June 4, 2019 and it was a beautiful day.  In the first one you can see the tramway.

We wanted more time at Mendenhall glacier than we had in 2012 to have more time to go to the waterfall. In the video that is DH taking pictures and carrying my raincoat.

I’m with you,  need a bit more certainty!

I've been to Juneau about 10 times, 7 on cruise ships using the traditional docks.  The other 3 have been at the port currently used by passengers arriving in Juneau.  The Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) passes west of Douglas Island and docks in Auke Bay, roughly 10 miles North of Juneau.  My last time there was on the Kennicott from Bellingham to Whittier on my Northwest Passage trip in 2016,   I don't have a picture of the terminal itself but we had some pier runners so here's the docking area; there are somewhat different ramps for different ferries:

stragglers.jpg

On that trip I took a shared taxi into the Nugget Mall and McDonalds for breakfast but mostly internet.  The bus system does not go to the terminal but does stop about a mile away and I walked the last stretch back to the dock.  Perhaps of more interest to cruisers is Auke Bay is also the base for Allen Marine which runs the tour excursion boats out of Juneau:

tourboats.jpg

I took a tour on one of those boats "St. Peter" from the Volendam in 2018, going up Tracy Arm:

In addition to some nice wildlife we got up close and almost personal with the glaciers:

Thanks you all!  happy Pi day!  My DGD will happily support any craft day! And butterflies!

I too would like to pick a time like Saskatchewan, or our friends in the small town of Creston, BC half the year they’re like Alberta, half like BC.  We got messed up once in Arizona, as the Navajo nation doesn’t do daylight savings time either.

Great photos of Juneau,  we’ve been twice on our very first cruise and a few years ago.
We found contrary to belief about cold and ice,  that we totally enjoyed this cruise and scenery as much if not more than Norway.  It is truly spectacular and both times we visited we had very pleasant warm weather, with the first time a fresh salmon and Halibut BBQ on board.
Second time we visited Costco, lol!

Roy,

I am wondering about erewhon. Since he told us he would be away for awhile, than the earthquake hit have you heard from him? There have been days with the vaccines I was giving and could not get on CC. So hopefully he has chimed in and he is safe.
Thank you
