Sandydk Posted March 21, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2021 I’m finding conflicting information on the web. Does anyone know what perks, if any, the family suites get on the Star? I know the Star doesn’t have any Haven suites. This is our first NCL cruise so I’m learning. I’m used to Disney! Thank you!
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted March 21, 2021 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2021 Family suites on Star still are suites and still receive the Butler, Concierge, dining for breakfast and lunch in specialty ressie, fruit bowl in the room, daily snacks.. etc, etc... don't worry, they are as much suites as other ships; just not Haven.... no worries, it's still, IMO, a great experience. Rare HBCcruiser Posted March 21, 2021 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2021 We stayed in a family suite on the Star a few years ago. I’ll link my review/comparison review if you are interested. You get priority boarding, disembarkation, access to a butler who brings you daily treats among other things, access to a special concierge who will book inboard reservations for you, breakfast and lunch in a specialty restaurant daily (we had breakfast daily in Moderno’s and lunch in Cagney’s). You will also get to book dinner and show reservations 120 days out, which is earlier than others. Although the Haven experience is much better (love the Haven bar, restaurant, pool area and private Sundeck) the suite experience is great too. don't-use-real-name Posted March 21, 2021 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2021 The Family Suites on the STAR while being the least expensive get the same perks & bennies as the Penthouse and Owners suites. The STAR and sister ship the DAWN *DO NOT* have a Haven. The Jewel Class ships (JEWEL JADE GEM PEARL) do have a similar arrangements of suites and a small Haven. dexddd Posted March 21, 2021 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2021 Except that OS and higher do get additional things like booze, water, soda, and reserved seating in shows.
milolii Posted March 21, 2021 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2021 We loved the suites on the Star. Last cruise we were in the Opal Suite, a 2 bedroom, very nice. Another perk is early embarkation and disembarkion. We caught an earlier flight home due to disembarkation. Also private escort off ship at ports. We did not need tender tickets at tender ports. I seem to remember reserved seating at shows for all suites. You had to show your key. Breakfast at Moderno’s and lunch at Cagney’s also a nice perk. Butler brought coffee, ice and other treats. You could also get room service for the Butler. NCL has the best suites, just my opinion.
Chalkertravels Posted February 20, 2023 #7 Share Posted February 20, 2023 Unfortunately, the rep I just chatted with through the NCL chatbox, said this is not an amenity for suite guests. She didn't say "no longer available" so I'm not sure when they removed it. We were interested in an upcoming Star suite cruise after reading this thread and wanted to check it was still an active perk. Bummed that they don't really offer anything remotely comparable to the Haven option on ships without it.

complawyer Posted February 20, 2023 #9 Share Posted February 20, 2023 we were in a star suite last july, a gem suite last oct and a haven 2 bedroom in jan. unless something has drastically changed, if you're booked into a suite you get all the goodies (not club balcony) the difference is as follows" if the ship has a haven with its own restaurant, bar and pool area, and you're only booked into a suite, you dont get access to the above, but still get the butler, concierge, breakfast and lunch in moderno and cagney;'s respectively. on the + side, the rooms are almost identical, and y ou save about $2000 booking the suite and not the haven. some ships have haven suites, but not the haven complex. Rare Sailing12Away Posted February 21, 2023 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2023 We were in the garden villa on the Star last May. Won it as an upgrade bid the night before our flight to Spain. There's no Haven, so no separate lounge, bar, restaurant, or private pool. But you get a butler, you get breakfast & lunch in one of the specialty restaurants just for you, priority stuff.... it's the closest you can come to Haven on those ships and was a great experience. Some ships have Haven suites; some ships have Haven suites and non-Haven suites; some ships have only non-Haven suites because there is no Haven. The Haven amenities can vary. latebloomer56 Posted February 21, 2023 #13 Share Posted February 21, 2023 Personal experience, sail ed on the Dawn in a 2 bedroom suite twice, aft suite once. We had dining for breakfast and lunch, treats in cabin, escorted on and off the ship. Other perks we didn't use. On the Gem, Haven once, aft suite twice, same perks with one exception in the Haven, small pool and a few extras in the DOS. Cancelled our Joy NY - Bahamas cruise because our 2 bedroom suite no longer offered breakfast and lunch in separate restaurant among other things. We just rebooked the Haven on the Pearl instead and still had money left over for specialty dinning for five 😊. Just comparisons depends on your needs what is best for you.

I've wondered why NCL removed the "suite perks" from the suites on the Joy, but only on that one ship (I think). Was there any explanation, not that they need to provide one, of course? Always book suites on NCL because nobody does the suite life like them, but if they make these type changes will just book balconies or even OV instead. GC The older ships have no cabins dedicated as "Haven", nor do they have separate access areas devoted to only Haven guests. Dawn, Star, Sun.... They have suites, which gets you priority stuff and a butler, but no special place - no ship within a ship. Those are just suites, but some folks refer to them as the Haven equivalent which I suppose is a misnomer as there is no Haven class on those ships at all. Then there are the jewel class ships. There are cabins called Haven, where you get bonus perks. Those ships have a separate Haven only access area with a pool and sundeck. But no separate restaurant, no separate lounge, no separate bar, etc etc. So you get a private pool area and regular suite perks. But the only difference between a Haven suite and a non-Haven suite on those is access to that pool area. Those ships are the Haven suites with no Haven complex. You get a Haven pool - but that is it. The non-Haven suites on those ships are otherwise identical minus access to that pool. Then with the breakaway and beyond classes.... you start getting more actual perks and amenities included in the exclusivity of being called a Haven guest. As to whether the other person was referring to miscategorizing suites on an older ship as Haven, or referring to the jewel class ships that have Haven rooms but no other Haven areas (beyond the pool), I'm not sure. 9 hours ago, GeezerCouple said: I've wondered why NCL removed the "suite perks" from the suites on the Joy, but only on that one ship (I think). Was there any explanation, not that they need to provide one, of course? GC From what I've gathered all the rooms on the Joy changed drastically. They used to have a ton of 'concierge' level suites - those were changed into lower level Haven rooms (HH, HI, HJ). So instead of being non-Haven suites, they're now full Haven access rooms, but outside of the courtyard area. The 2 remaining non-Haven suites for the Joy are silly to me. One is the inside 2br with the virtual balcony, the other makes no sense to me at all. Just call those the same as the HJ Haven rooms. They're on the same deck and even larger in size....so.... I dunno what they are. But then they would have way too many rooms with Haven access. So to me, there's really no point or incentive to booking that SC room other than a large sized room.
