Rare WanderingBrit Posted April 16, 2021 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2021 I realize that the topic of children, all of whom are perfectly behaved unless they are someone else’s, is sometimes a little “excitable”. With that established, I’d only just connected the dots: since there are no vaccines approved for those under 16, and NCL requires all guests to be vaccinated, there will be no under 16s cruising - at least initially. Selfishly this does not make me unhappy 😉 14
Rare KeithJenner Posted April 16, 2021 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2021 My son, who is 15, going on 30, would love to go on a cruise without all those annoying kids. Unfortunately he is one of those who isn’t allowed onboard. 🙂
farmersfight Posted April 16, 2021 #3 Share Posted April 16, 2021 I know that cruising is very much a family activity. It is sad that families with kids under 16 probably will not be able to cruise. But in the current environment with NCL trying everything to get cruises restarted (and try to work with the CDC), we may have to endure a period where the start-up will only be with passengers 16 +.. But, this is only temporary and families with kids under 16 will be able to cruise again. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
roger001 Posted April 16, 2021 #4 Share Posted April 16, 2021 Cruises are still a long way off as we used to experience them. Kids will be approved for vaccines not too long from now. Don’t get too concerned....yet. Give it time.
CarolinaMamma Posted April 16, 2021 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2021 Timing must be carefully planned to book a cruise that is actually likely to sail AND not have children onboard. What do you think the perfect window of time will be? My 17 year old is already fully vaccinated and my 14 year old is hoping to get hers by June or July. Pfizer is already showing good results for 12-15 year olds, so watch out, they are coming!

Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted April 17, 2021 #7 Share Posted April 17, 2021 This thread won’t be locked unless people start belittling each other. Most rational people realize that kids are people too, but they also acknowledge the appeal for childless people to sail on kidless cruises. Those with children have other choices to cruise that don’t require vaccines. As far as the right timing to avoid kids, I’d book soon out of Jamaica. Even though Pfizer admits a booster shot will be needed between 6-12 months, Child vaccines are coming. An interesting point for me is how to time the Pfizer vaccine so you that you don’t need a booster at the same time as you depart.

I am sure that you understand that that is not the issue. The issue is whether kids exhibit the maturity to respect everyone else on the ship. When we are dining in a restaurant, most rational people realize a "mature" person of any age would not be banging silverware on the table and plates. Most rational people realize a "mature" person of any age would not be crawling under all of the tables or running up and down the aisles. Most rational people realize a "mature" person of any age would not be throwing a tantrum crying and screaming in a restaurant, unchecked by oblivious parents. 7

No, but I remember a cruise on the Spirit years ago with over 800 spring breakers from Auburn and Vanderbilt where some of the behavior was as bad if not worse than crawling under the table. Spring breakers are technically adults. Since then we have avoided cruises in March and April.

SeaShark Posted April 17, 2021 #17 Share Posted April 17, 2021 Actually, what is "crazy" is deciding that you are never going to sail on a line...even after the pandemic...and then spending any time what-so-ever arguing about sailing on that line on an Internet message board. 11 2
roger001 Posted April 17, 2021 #18 Share Posted April 17, 2021 With the huge number of persons declining vaccination (US), reaching herd immunity may be a long time away. And the J&J which now has the bad rap for causing clots has caused more folks to reject a vaccination. If I'm remembering correctly, J&J folks had 6 clots out to 6.3 million shots given. I'm guessing in any 6.3 million populations that many clots probably happen regardless of the vaccine. But, bottom line, we (the world) have a long, long way to go still.

Or do you lack the courage of your convictions? I do not lack the courage of mine. I will NOT by an i or smart or android or whatever it you want to call it phone to show I have been vaccinated. If I cannot use laminated paper printout or some type of text message from NHS on my pay as you - seen on line of duty and the blacklist among other tv shows - or track phone as you americans call them then I will not cruise nor fly again for that matter. Isn't it great that here in our collective democratic societies you have a choice.

A lot of older people in UK and USA for that matter will struggle with this you know. A 79 year old man was turned away from his local pub in London when they reopened because he couldn't order drinks because he did not have an I phone or whatever just a pay as you go track phone. Doro phone I think the one with the big buttons.
HowardK Posted April 17, 2021 #21 Share Posted April 17, 2021 My children are better behaved and more mature than half the people on this thread. They were actually asking me about a kids cruise without whiny adults who complain all the time. 8

Look, if kids aren't allowed to do the exact same things that adults can do all the time everywhere, then what even is the point of cruising?
