It's working for Hawaii!!!

To some degree:

"A boy died from COVID-19 while on vacation in Hawaii with his fully vaccinated parents, marking the first child death from coronavirus in the state, officials said."

Still does not prove that you are highly likely to get Covid on an airplane.  No one knows how he was exposed or infected even though the family was screened in the Hawaii Safe Travelers program:

"A boy died from COVID-19 while on vacation in Hawaii with his fully vaccinated parents, marking the first child death from coronavirus in the state, officials said.

The boy, who was 10 years old or younger and had underlying health conditions, died after he and his parents visited Hawaii from another state, according to the Hawaii Department of Health. Officials said the child had coronavirus symptoms after arriving and died at a hospital.

“I can tell you that both parents had been vaccinated, fully vaccinated. And both parents had tested negative before traveling from the mainland to Hawaii,” Department of Health spokesperson Brooks Baehr said, Hawaii News Now reported.  So soon after arrival that it is very likely this child was infected with COVID while on the mainland or perhaps in transit, he added."

Correct.

But it shows that tourists can still bring Covid-19 to Hawaii even with the safeguards in place.

Look at what Singapore and Hong Kong have set up as safeguards in order to have a travel bubble between them:

Some of the conditions of the Singapore-Hong Kong air travel bubble:
o Travelers should have no travel history to any place other than Singapore or Hong Kong in the 14 days prior to departure.
o Travelers are required to download, register and use Singapore’s TraceTogether mobile application.
o Hong Kong residents can only take designated flights to fly to Singapore at least 14 days after receiving both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
o Travelers must test negative before departure and upon arrival.
o Additionally, the ATB will be suspended for two weeks if the seven-day moving average of the daily number of unlinked local COVID-19 cases is more than five for either Singapore or Hong Kong.

Guys, while checking my email this morning I found an email from Vaca**** 2 go dot com that said in part…

“In a letter to industry leaders Wednesday night, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said cruises could resume sailing from U.S. ports in mid-July.

The CDC will require that ships guarantee that at least 98% of crew and 95% of passengers are fully vaccinated. This rule is in keeping with decisions already made by many other countries to require proof of vaccination in order for cruise ships to operate again.”

It looks like cruising is getting ready to start up again!!!

The Hawaii Safe Travels Program has holes definitely because military, for example, are exempt and some other groups too.

I am still not sure how this all relates to air travel where there are no studies to show wide spread of Covid while flying in an airplane with the protocols they now have had in place.

575, 000 people have died from Covid in the US and 480 of those were in the state of Hawaii.  Many of those who died in the state were from community spread and not by tourists.

I will take my chances on flying on a plane versus getting on a cruise ship with an unknown amount of un-vaccinated passengers.
