Thanks! Thankfully I don’t spend half of my life continuously posting LONG drawn-out posts over and over and over again on the same issue.

Neither do I, so that's cool.

Last year I saw a few interviews with people who said that they didn't care if they got sick or died from Covid. I was never sure if they were just saying dumb things for the camera or if they really meant it. Do you really not care about going to jail? Or are you just saying stuff to get a rise out of people? Genuinely curious.

I'm quite sure he would care about going to jail and would comply to avoid that fate, so it's just bravado.  I'm also quite certain, based on his posting history on this subject, that he does not care about those who have been negatively impacted by this virus.  It makes it easier for him and people like him to say dumb things to support their own callousness.  As far as getting a rise out of people, I think that may be his stock-in-trade on here.  Either that or it's just a bid to up his post count 😉.

Many years ago I worked at Walt Disney World. Every day there are guests in the parks who think like this. Every day. If they persisted, usually they were escorted out by Security.

I was just asking because when I've asked other people they sometimes 'fess up. The comment about going to jail seemed weird to me though, not sure where that came from.

Spot on. I actually feel sorry for him.

Thanks, but not necessary. There are many, many, many things about me that people on Cruise Critic don't know, but that's the nature of engaging with people on social media. It's very easy to make judgments about people you've never laid eyes on. So don't feel sorry for me. For all you know, I'm making up 1/2 the stuff I say. How would you know any different? Answer: you WOULDN'T. Try not to take everything so seriously. What I find curious is how much of other people's lives some people think they have a right to control.

Oh please, you really do take many things too seriously. What do you care whether I'm willing to risk jail time for not wearing a mask? (I'm not, but I also don't believe in obeying arbitrary rules 'just because')

No matter what you or I say, there's no escaping the fact that Covid kills VERY VERY few people, statistically (raw numbers are misleading if not seen in light of total cases). I don't care if people say it's dangerous or it's not dangerous. If you believe the statistics put out by Johns Hopkins and others, you can see that 97% of people have nothing to worry about. And when you separate out people who are under 65 and have no co-morbidities (ie like me), the survival rate is over 99%. That's not an opinion, that's a FACT. Period. The scaremongers would have you believe that Covid is so bad, any restrictive measures on society are worth it. Bull****.

I haven't met any of these scarrmongers you keep describing. I haven't read any posts in the forum suggesting that any restrictive measure is worth it.

Seems like your real beef is because you believe you are not at risk, infringememts on you should not be necessary. If you can describe a functioning society that allows the over 35% of people with risk factors to fully participate without serious risk I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Doubt it.  I'll do just like airlines.  I wear it until takeoff.  Take it off until beverages are served.  Milk out 2 or 3 drinks and a couple snacks and a couple cups of ice and the flight is almost over.  Barely wear it all.  Lady sat beside me on my last flight and said if you want to take your mask off, fine with me.  She said it's a scam.  I said you are right.  Had nice conversation.  There's always ways around the system.

What if the person next to you asks you to put your mask back on?

Nobody like rules, especially seemingly arbitrary ones, but sometimes we can't have nice things because of what a few bad apples are doing.

How many times have you said "because I said so" to your kids? 🙂

Arbitrary is often only in the eyes of the beholder.

You missed out choice number 6. Knock him the beep out and if he dies he dies. And you get a life ban from Royal. So not worth getting involved in something like that.

Not saying I would do that but it would hardly wreck the life of the person that did would it?.  Look at what happened in Astoria or was it Sunnyside a couple of thanksgivings ago with the 2 irish guys outside the bar one hit the other and he died. The one who died was American citizen the killer an illegal irish guy from Dublin. He served 6 months in Rikers for the one punch death and he is out now released about a year ago and not deported to my knowledge. You want to tell me that has wrecked his life?

Try 3,140,000.  Over 3 MILLION.   Sorry, but your interpretation of statistics isn't mine.

over 3 million out of 8 billion (with a B).  And just from covid probably not even 400,000 in the world. Everyone afraid should just stay in their  basement like someone else we know, much better off.

Agreed. But I think where you and I disagree (which, by the way, is still allowed) is what nice things, what constitutes arbitrary and what a "few" bad apples are. Let me give you a quick example by way of illustration: last year there was an infamous incident in Washington State where a number of singers at a choir rehearsal contracted Covid-19 and some died. When I mentioned to someone that I was continuing to sing with my choir, I got blasted for it because the "critics" assumed the situations were identical: they weren't. My church choir consisted of 4 singers, not 160, and we sang spread apart, and I was wearing a mask. "Doesn't matter," said some. The h*** it doesn't matter! That's like saying Montana and New York City both have people in them, so the masking and social distancing should be identical. That's just straight-up nuts. I refuse to go along with stupid rules, and *I* get to define stupid, not others. If I disagree with a mask policy (so far I've gone along with them because I wasn't fully vaccinated until recently), then I either wear one, anyway, or I choose not to patronize businesses that require them. Simple as that. I constantly hear people say they won't be required once we reach herd immunity but those same people consistently refuse to say when that might be, which means they're comfortable with masking forever. I'm not.

Since this is a cruise website, I'll just say I'll respect the rules of the cruise line, because that's the price I'm willing to pay ON VACATION. My private life (where I spent 99% of my time) is another matter altogether.

Earlier I mentioned that there are a lot of things people on here don't know about me. One of them is that we aren't able to have children, a subject that has been very painful for us. Thanks. I'd be thrilled to be able to say "because I said so" to a child, if I had any.

And I would hope we'd show grown adults a little better than we'd show to children.

You must be all knowing.

Not at all, someone said arbitrary is in the eyes of the beholder. So is stupid. My Dad thinks it's stupid that at 82 years of age, his healthcare plan requires contraceptive coverage even though he's a widower. I think some of the restrictive rules still in place are stupid, especially given the incredible vaccine rollout. I was under the impression that people in the USA were allowed to have their own opinions, is that not so, or is it only opinions you agree with? That was a rhetorical question, BTW.

Well, maybe for some people it is. I've seen people get fired from jobs for refusing to comply with the rules.

Well when it comes to a novel virus like Covid I think we should all have a little humility. IMHO

The point was that sometimes the amount of information that must be conveyed for a satisfactory explanation precludes a reasonable response. And sometimes the person perceiving an arbitrary rule is unwilling to accept the basis of the rule.

A job and cruise line different though. You can many jobs. There is only one 1 Royal or 1 NCL or 1 Cunard though isn't there. It is something you would always regret I think isn't it. Do you think in a few years time such bans would be lifted? I don't think you could fight the ban in court could you?

Agreed. And people like me listened to the experts who reminded us that lock downs and restrictions would only be necessary until widespread vaccines were available, which they are. And I just read a good article yesterday in the Washington Post in which it was stressed again that we're "almost there" in terms of herd immunity and masks won't be necessary, which is great news. Now let's see it happen.
