cruzn single Posted April 28, 2021 #53 Share Posted April 28, 2021 Thanks to Rich for creating this wonderful community of caring folks. This is certainly a “go to” site, for friendship, encouragement, learning and so much more. Thanks to all for making The Daily a place to be! In 4 Alaskan cruises, have never made it to Tracy Arm! My list of places to visit keeps growing. Have a great day, everyone.
Horizon chaser 1957 Posted April 28, 2021 #54 Share Posted April 28, 2021 Good morning, all! So, stars, poetry, and kissing my mate. Could there possibly be a better grouping of days? It may rain tonight and block the stars, but I can still kiss my mate, so the most important thing still stands. We have ribs coated in dry rub and waiting to be cooked later, so dinner is set. Ind you, fajitas made with leftover rib meat would be tasty tomorrow. I can get out the tortilla press and make fresh tortillas for the occasion. We have cruised Tracy Arm, and it was lovely. There are pictures somewhere, but since all the glaciers are just labeled Alaska, there’s no point digging them out. Rich, happy anniversary to you and the Fleet Report. Thank you for allowing it to become our shelter for the time being! The Rieslings all came out to explore today. There are indeed four of them, three black and one grey. They figured out how to jump up the edging between the patio and the garden, but the soil was a new and suspicious substance. The two boldest finally braved the dirt and seemed to like it. Then a songbird landed on the birdbath, and all four Rieslings bolted back to the safety of the doghouse and have been there since. The ringleaders check out the edge of the garden. And of course, Happy Wednesday, especially to the BHB’s awaiting our return!

In my mind the best way to see Tracy is to take the 7-day cruise out of Vancouver (or at least the first half, continuing to Denali and Anchorage by land as I did), and rendezvousing with the Allen Marine boat in the morning. I did it as part of my Grand Alaska Panama in 2018. On the way into Tracey we saw a bear: Our final destination was South Sawyer Glacier near the end of the Arm. We saw many seals: We got very close to the Glacier: On the way out we paused at several waterfalls, including Weddingcake. Couples often choose to get married on a boat at the base of these falls: We arrived in Juneau in time for dinner. That year there was an active community for Juneau sailaway (or sail-in) threads. Marmion Island and Grand Island were reference points for the pilots on the way into Juneau and I posted photos of them on my blog. When I arrived in Juneau, my Volendam and her r-class twin, the Zaandam, were sitting end to end: We were also given a map where I marked out our route in the Arm: https://morethangetaways.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/tracytour.pdf Roy We were on the Zaandam in early May 2018....and couldn't get into Tracy Arm (due to ice).... Plan B was a beautiful trip down Endicott Arm....a gorgeous day....with a couple of bear sightings....:) Until I saw your map....I couldn't remember the name of Endicott Arm.....thanks....!!!

JazzyV Posted April 28, 2021 #57 Share Posted April 28, 2021 Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily Rich. Good days and good quote. Alas, no mate to kiss. I like the meal and wine. I'll pass on the drink. I've cruised in Alaska but I don't think to Tracy Arm Inlet. Thanks for the great pictures! It's sunny and warm, but they are calling for thunderstorms, 60mph winds and perhaps hail later today. I need to move a couple of potted plants into the garage so they don't get pummelled. Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list. Stay safe everyone!

Thank you for your dedication! Think how boring our days would be if we didn't have this bright spot to come to. Also big thanks to Roy for the lists kept each day of our prayer list and celebration group which is getting bigger. A good and diverse group of Days to celebrate today. Especially Kiss Your Mate Day. There will be a lot of happy mates in the Daily family. I suppose I've been in Tracy Arm several times. I know for a fact we were there twice in 2009 on B2B Sapphire Princess Alaska cruises, then again in 2019 on the Amsterdam 14 day Seattle roundtrip Alaska cruise. That one was the best because we got to see the many smaller ports HAL provides with that itinerary. Both times were in September and we celebrated our 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries on those cruises. In 2019 I recall sitting in Crow's Nest and watching the many, many whales we saw in the Tracy Arm Inlet. The waters were so calm. The bow of the Amsterdam This Carnival ship left so that we could take our turn. Getting closer to the Tracy Arm Glacier Beautiful view! And there it is Seals napping on the ice Turning around to leave A very nice day! Beautiful photos. Thanks so much for them.

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 28, 2021 #65 Share Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) It took me awhile to get back to the computer and to find what I was looking for. In honor or Astronomy Day, I have a few pictures that DH took last fall and early this year when we were in Quartzsite. I think I may have posted some of these before, but I don't have notes on which ones I posted several months ago; so I hope you enjoy them again. There are many fascinating objects in the sky not only planets and constellations, but clouds of gas and dust, clusters, galaxies, the moon and nebulae. We think the nebulae are the most interesting. This is a double cluster in Perceus. An open cluster with an exploding star. The Triangulum Galaxy Now we come to the stars (excuse the pun) of the show, the nebulae. The Horsehead nebula The Bubble nebula The Crescent nebula The Dumbbell nebula The Helix nebula The North American nebula The two veiled nebulae are illuminated by an exploding star which appears in the West Veiled nebula. The East Veiled nebula. The West Veiled nebula Lenda Edited April 28, 2021 by Quartzsite Cruiser 29
kochleffel Posted April 28, 2021 #66 Share Posted April 28, 2021 I'm hoping to get to Tracy Arm this summer with Adventure Bound, after arriving in Juneau on the AMHS. Right now it's 84 degrees here, humid, with thunderstorms likely.

Amazing what's out there in our sky! Thanks. They are actually DH's pictures that he allows me to post. We have a lot more, but these showed the objects the best. We are both still stunned by some of the things we see through the telescope. DH has a new telescope which he can control with his tablet. It can see deeper into space than any of the other ones he has. Lenda

Rare Vict0riann Posted April 28, 2021 #71 Share Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) Good afternoon, Dailyites, and thanks to Rich, Roy, the drinks and recipe ladies, and especially Lenda for those amazing astronomical photos! Congratulations to Rich for starting a third year of being our leader. I always followed our next ship on the Fleet Report, making sure it knew where it was going and would be at our next departure port in time, now they are all just sitting there waiting for us to get going again! We have sailed past Tracey Arm a couple of times, and I thought I had a photo of the little boat that takes people up, but I must have discarded it. On the 2-week cruises on Amsterdam, we have gone up Tracey Arm twice, the second time much closer to the glaciers than the first. Roy, we saw that little boat at the waterfall - it looked like it was trying to climb up the hillside! Maybe there was a wedding going on... When I went outside this morning to do a bit of gardening, the air was filled with the scent of my lilac - I planted it 4 years ago, the deer have eaten it almost to the ground a couple of times, so last year I put a fence around it, and this year when I saw the first nibbles I put the fence back, and it had buds for the first time, and now they are opening. Oh, your lilac is taking me back to the home where I grew up! There was a small lilac tree/bush in the backyard and it always bloomed before May Day so we could make a bouquet of flowers for our Mother. The scent was so fragrant. I loved it!
