All of a sudden three special kindergarten school busses showed up right next to the ship , they looked as if they just came out of the factory  a Red ,  a Yellow and a Blue one 

 

 

 

Very enthusiastic kids in their finest “uniforms “ with not a mark on their little white shoes or freshly pressed clothes while listening very well to just half a dozen teachers ran to their spots for what they came for , for us  …..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was getting to be a little cooler so the special jackets came out ….

 

 

 

And than the musical instruments and flags 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They sang and played quite a few numbers for all of us , but it was almost time for “ All on Board “  when they started  playing  and singing  Beethoven’s  “Ode to Joy “ in Japanese  which was composed  by Beethoven in 1785 as it represents the triumph of Universal Brotherhood against war and desperation …….. when I think of this moment in Shimizu I am again getting emotional ………. I will never forget this day …….. 😍

 

I have a couple of short videos I don’t know if I am able to post that on this roll call I might try later …….

 

The kids and many of their parents stayed on shore and watched us slowly push away …. our Captain gave a few big toots

I was able to FaceTime with Sam and my son was there when the doctors did their rounds. David, who works at a hospital in Philly and who has worked on stroke units said Sam is making remarkable progress so some of the fear I had is gone. Sam was eating an omelette and Farina when I spoke to him.. The blood clot in his brain did not require a head incision. They thread a catheter up through the groin, and use a gage like devise to surround the clot and remove it. Amazing.

Got my vaccine this morning! Feeling good. I rode my bike over to the vax centre ( less than 2 miles) then ride honme the long way for just under 10km (6 miles) but it was hot and humid even before noon. Hiding inside now in the ac. expecting thunderstorms after supper. We hope to get the grass cut before then. The perennial garden is starting to pop and my lavender will be in full bloom in a couple of days.

Carol, that is good news all around,  I know you must be very relieved that you got to talk to San and that your DS, David, was there when the doctors made their rounds.  Anytime, they can accomplish what they want with a minimally invasive procedure is a BIG plus.  Sounds like Sam is headed for a full recovery. 

 

Hope you get your shot tomorrow, and take care of yourself so you can be ready to welcome Sam home.

Well Shimizu was our first port in Japan in 2019,  amazing views of Fuji San!  We enjoyed visiting the nearby temple,  took a cablecar up,  other than my knees!  A lovely tea growing area as well.

I like the meal (but the only seafood I eat is shrimp or lobster) and the wine. I'll pass on the Negroni.

I haven't been to today's port. Thanks for the pictures from those who have been there.

 

It's another hot and humid day today. They keep saying rain, but it's skipping my area and we need it!

On Oct 14th , 2017 we landed in the Port of Shimizu on the Volendam  we were only in Port for a very short time from 8 am until 2 pm so no time for a nice long tour but had a very nice welcome by the local dancers and an unforgettable rest of the day which I will show in a bit ………

 

With our friends that were on board we make a nice walk to the local seafood market where we saw the most incredible dishes , when we came back to port I enjoyed a nice Japanese tea ceremony and saw many ladies and also men trying out Japanese costumes .

 

A special painted sign just for us ....

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After this friendly welcome we walked to the local large fish market 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They will eat almost anything from the sea in Japan …..

Let us taste some stuff ...

Tony, @sailingdutchy, lovely photos, I have a stiff upper lip, but Pat would be bawling, as you know.  I won't even show him.  Fish Eyes - the best part!  As a child in China, I would always snag them when we had a fish.   I'm not quite so sure I would want to nowadays.  (Children will eat anything!)

 

Tuesday is our church day - now that we are allowed inside again!   We prayed for World Ocean Day and for the children of the residential schools.   Our pastor was out for the day at a special meeting convened by the Bishop - I have a feeling the subject might have been the Catholic Church's part in the government program of taking indigenous children away from their homes and educating them in "our" ways.    So our service was led by a member of the congregation, very unusual.  

 

A couple of pics of the oceans around Vietnam - those specks are floating water bottles - have to wonder how many have already sunk to the bottom.

Never been skydiving, but very glad DF survived when he was forced to parachute from his fighter behind the German line one night in WWII.  He heard American voices coming from a convoy and hopped into the back of one. It was full of American GI's  - but they were POWs! They let him sleep until nearly dawn, he jumped out and then hiked for several days before getting to the Allied forces. From there he made it back to his base at Steeple Morden, north of London. I have a portion of his parachute.

 

He and DM accompanied us on one of our (land) trips to the UK. We stopped where his airfield had been. There is a memorial near the road in a field; 3 of the Quonset huts remain nearby, one of which was his ready room.

Certain parts of England especially the west coast get a lot of rain and the Pennine hills that run down the centre of England gets the most but it protects the east coast to a certain degree because most of the prevailing winds are westerlies from the Atlantic.

The South coast and London in particular get high temperatures especially in the summer months.

Wow.  What they can do with a catheter is really amazing.  Wishing Sam a very speedy recovery.

You may do it any way you wish. We are easy. I guess my idea of British weather comes from watching too many episodes of escape to the country where it mostly seems to be raining when they film!
