I was thinking the same thing.  No report as to whether they are sick or asymptomatic.  I have a feeling it's the later since they were partially vaxed.  RCG's PR people need to educate themselves and realize COVID positive and virus positive are two different things, and one is more damaging than the other.

The distinction does not in any way impact the procedures RCI needs to follow.  PR is not going to manage this or any other infected sailings going forward.

The problem is, for pax, fake vax cards are incredibly easy to come by or even create yourself.

I agree with that.  Which is why I support each country having a national "passport" of some type documenting vaccinations that is much more likely to be valid.  I believe in freedom.  I believe in privacy.  But this is a dangerous, deadly disease and sometimes that means we have to make some accommodations for the good of all.  I know everyone doesn't agree with me, but I think that only makes common sense.

And not quarantined from each other until June 18th full vaccination date.  RCCL let them on the ship unvaccinated, and kept them together on board.

I don´t know how Royal do it. I know some cruise lines like TUI have the crew stay in their staterooms for 14 days - no exceptions.

Does anyone have information on issues with the Summit?  We are booked to sail out of St. Maartan in July.

There is an active thread titled ‘Summit just went Red on CDC….” But realize the CDC status has nothing to do with the Summit cruises out of St Maarten. I’d Not use any of that as adverse impact to your cruise. Keep checking with your TA if you need to but don’t let that ‘status’ concern you. Read the whole thing.

Definitely highlights the need to have ALL crew and passengers fully vaccinated.  Period.  Not 95%.  Not unvaccinated children.  100% or you can't cruise yet.  It's still a pandemic.  It's still out there.  Life is not fair, but that is really the only way to ensure cruising will survive.

I certainly agree with phoenix dream.  This is what I would like to see before our next cruise in December. Celebrity, please  read, listen & consider what is best for your passengers.

I'm not talking procedure.  PR is about perception.  If these crew members are asymptomatic, and hope they are, then a short line mentioning that along with their quarantine status would have a calming effect, in my view.  It would also bolster confidence that the vax has an impact even less than 2 weeks after the second jab.

I think they did at some point after last night’s letter to passengers say that 6 of the 8 are asymptomatic.  And we will see what impact the vaccines continue to have as there could be other positive cases found in the next several days.  RCI’s mistake was perhaps not following quarantine procedures after the vaccines were given. Vaccines are not fully effective until after the waiting period. We’ve certainly learned that. There’s no PR that is going to get around that.

If they didn't follow proper procedure, then the best communications strategy is to get out in front and admit it.  Or if they're investigating whether crew broke quarantine or their own, say that.  Hopefully the crew members will be negative w/o illness and we can get back to anticipating our first cruise back with positive vibes instead of angst..

I think there's virtually no chance they would ever admit to or publicize anything of that nature.

Is the whole 'broke quarantine' idea actually verified?

They brought on more crew in Miami. Even PCR testing prior to travel and with a PCR test prior to boarding, there is still ample opportunity for exposure that would not result in a positive test after a 2 day hotel quarantine or upon their first test to get onboard. There was also known COVID onboard previously. If they tested very shortly after possible exposure, that unfortunately accomplishes nothing.

The point of the vaccines isn't to have 0 positive cases.  That's not what the vaccine does.  The point is to make sure if you do get the SARS-CoV that it doesn't turn into COVID.  The sooner people understand that a positive test doesn't mean COVID the sooner all the fear porn ends.  SARS-COV doesn't kill people, COVID does.  The distinction is important and real.

Not verified.  We don't even know if there was a quarantine after receiving the vaccines.  So anything is possible I guess.  Not likely to be disclosed anyway.  For newly boarding crew I thought there was supposed to be testing followed by a 14 quarantine on land before another test at boarding?

Well, that is not absolutely the case.  You can test positive for the virus but be asymptomatic.  You can also test positive for the virus and have minor symptoms of the disease, which is exactly what happened with 2 of the 8 crew members.  Very rarely does it turn into severe disease, hospitalization or death.  That's what the "point" of the vaccine is.

And "fear porn"?  Really?

Don't let the fact that 2 people out of 1500 on the Millenium tested positive with no symptoms. Just remember how many people on ships tested positive with symptoms with norovirus or influenza in the last few years.

I sailed on the Millenium and would much rather do it again than on a ship full of norovirus victims.

Bottom line in a vaccinated community, positive tests are actually a good thing, as it appears has happened here.  8 people positive, none really "sick", more strengthened immunity because of it.  Sounds like everything is working correctly to me.

#TRUTH  Norovirus sucks (or rather blows)...

I thought it was kind of an interesting post about the faked vaccine card for a number of reasons:  not everyone on the cruises will be from the US, and those not from the US will have to provide a doctor's note or that country specific vaccination information, the crew was the OP here, most if not all cruise lines will require testing prior to boarding,  and finally the cruise lines are going to require additional documentation in the form of a vaccine testimonial.  This testimonial could very well be a legal type of contract between the cruise line and the individual.  I just don't know that there would be people willing to take chances for themselves getting caught.  I know I will get push back from all the DD about the fake vaccine card posts, but it seems the cruise lines have this.

I've had NORO twice on my sailings over 20 years.  I will be glad with the enhanced cleaning protocols and that passengers won't be able to touch all of the utensils.  I told my husband when we arrived in Juneau I am getting off and going to the hospital; then fly home.  When I realized how late we were arriving in Juneau, my heart sank.  When we did arrive in Juneau, I had turned the corner.  At least I was able to sit on my deck and watch all of the activity.

Had the poster said the vaccine is designed so that you don't get SEVERE COVID, it sounds like you would have agreed with him.  I'm not sure what fear porn means.  Unwarranted fear.  That's out there for sure.
