Picture-A-Week 2021 - Week 28

 Share

Recommended Posts

Pictures taken between Monday, July 5 and Sunday, July 11.

Second week of the second half of 2021. Take. More. Pictures.

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Out this morning on our bikes. This is what the tree canopy is suppose to look like, and this is what it looks like. The caterpillars have stripped the leaves off the trees.

Well, no cruise ships wandering around Australian waters for the time being. But there is still some activity afloat.

A couple of months ago while on a trip to Sam's Club for groceries, a package of Canna Lily bulbs somehow found its way into the cart. We had a couple of large flower pots vacated by last winter’s freeze, so Kim planted the bulbs, I hooked up the drippers and we ignored them for a while. A few weeks later, some tiny leaves popped up and started their chapter in the circle of life. We took scant notice as the tiny sprouts rapidly grew into actual plants. Until last week. The barrel with the red Cannas produced a couple of blooms and on Saturday, the yellow barrel entered the competition. Sadly, we have since discovered that Cannas aren’t really lilies but are related to bananas and arrowroots. We have decided not to tell them and let them continue to happily self-identify as lilies.

I headed out to the wetlands on July 10th after getting back from Disney World the weekend before - and had a nice day of encounters - but I didn't get around to downloading and processing photos from Disney or from July 10th until yesterday!  It's been a busy week catching up.  Here are some of that weekend's grabs:

Red-winged blackbird mom feeding her hungry, newly-hatched chick:

Three female anhingas lined up on a limb:

Black-bellied whistling duck trying to have an afternoon nap:

The lovely little least bittern very much out in the open, which they usually don't do - this male was walking along the reed over the water to sneak up on the fish below:

A large Florida softshell attempting to rest on a downed tree where it likes to get some sun - but heavy rains had that tree under water, so this was the best he could get:

A juvenile male wood duck, still working on getting his gaudy full color display wood ducks are known for, but still pretty:

A yellow-crowned night heron, a little wet from a small rainshower, trying to have an afternoon nap up in the trees:
