Covid on the jewel July 10 sailing and thoughts on the sailing

FYI We were on this sailing. Not one notice about this onboard or no communication since leaving the ship.

overall a excellent experience. No surprises. All went as expected as for the rules and the changes because of “Covid”. Entertainment in the main theater was a bit lacking. All specialty restaurants were up to standards except one night in chops where they seemed to be having a issue cooking to correct temperature. Almost every order went back from everyone in the restaurant when we were their. Staff was excellent. Checker the concierge provided his excellent service. We received the proper c&r amenities upon boarding in the staterooms. Both diamond plus and pinnacle had lunches on the last day. Officers gave a quick toast and left. We will answer any specific questions anyone has. Happy sailings to everyone

Yes to the casino wearing a mask.  Everyone was drinking at the bar. Do not know what they would do about just sitting there.  There was No mask police walking around the ship. It really was not a issue if you just go with the flow.

I thought vaccinated didn’t have to wear masks in the venues where unvaccinated were not allowed in (e.g. casino)

Have the 2 positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 (fully vaccinated) been confirmed by anyone outside of this article? I would think a cruise line would at least acknowledge it to passengers onboard, in hopes of staving off rumors and to show effectiveness of their protocols.

Glad you had a nice cruise!

I never click on links from that website and I am asking and hoping that no one else will either.

It is owned and run by a lawyer who hates cruising and is what we call in the US "an ambulance-chaser".

If you feel that you must read the article, this site basically cribbed it:  (and then the lawyer gets no revenue from your clicks to support his attacks on the cruising industry)

Only kids are unvaccinated

All guests age 18 years and older must have completed all doses of their COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before sailing.

Guests younger than 18 years don't need to be vaccinated — but if they are, they can follow the testing guidance for fully vaccinated guests.

All crew onboard Jewel of the Seas will be fully vaccinated.

So then why do masks have to be worn in the casino if all are vaccinated. Kids under 18 aren’t allowed in the casino.

All guests 6 years and older must wear a mask in all indoor and outdoor public spaces, unless seated and actively eating or drinking, or when seated by the pool. Masks are not permitted in the pool or for any activity where they could become wet.

Will Jewel continue to sail from Cyprus as Covid figures and travel risks are currently so high for this island??

Unless the local gov't tells RCI not to sail or some other outside circumstances makes them, I doubt RCI will cancel on their own. As CEO Fain says: "You are safer on cruise than on Main St".

I agree with him.     At least on the Jewel just about everyone is vaccinated and if they do test positive they should have no or very mild symptoms.

I am not sure if it is that easy. Celebrity Apex just canceled all port stops in Cyprus into September. And if people are not able to fly to Cyprus easily anymore due to again implemented travel restrictions or fewer flights?

Cyprus Air have just announced a new route LCA LHR starting Sept 10th.

The Jewel cruises were sold inclusive of flights with a TUI charter from UK. Believe this starts at the end of July. Until then pax have been flown out in scheduled BA flights.

also Celebrity seem to be doing things differently to RCI- in Mykonos you have to do a ships tour with Apex whereas on Jewel you can go off alone. Abundance of caution perhaps.

He's awful! Thanks for posting this. I find him repulsive.

On the July 9th apex sailing guests were allowed to visit Mykonos on their own. Did things change with the latest sailing?

4 days ago they were still allowed off in Mykonos alone; it is Apex where they are not allowed off unless on a tour.
