Rare GeorgeCharlie Posted August 10, 2021 #76 Share Posted August 10, 2021 As previously mentioned, Lisbon has many impressive wall murals. Here are some we noticed on our visit. We also noticed their rather unusual planters, with built-in seating. 25

sailingdutchy Posted August 10, 2021 #80 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Good morning from a very wet SW Ontario , rain and thunderstorms all morning and possibly for a couple more days . I wished we could send some to the West Coast of Canada and the US where this really is needed but these rain clouds first have to go the other way around the world to get to you . Sorry ! We have been a number of times to Lisbon and a couple of times on the” Elegant Explorer " , The beloved Prinsendam in 2016 and 2019 . Thank you all for the very nice pictures I saw a lot of familiar shots from places we have visited in Lisboa . In 2016 we were on a small group tour from Lisbon to Sintra and Estoril so I will show a few pictures from that particular day , will see how many pics CC will allow me . We first went to the Palace of Pena built in the 1850’s on the site where a medieval monastery had stood . It lies on higher grounds plus there still was some morning fog which is seen here on my photos . Talk about workmanship ....... Coffee break in town and some of Portugal's best Cascais The man I was named after , my Patron Saint ( He gave me all the patience which I needed to post my pictures today it's been a struggle .....) Time to go back to Lisbon and after a visit to the Cathedral to go back Home to the Prinsendam Back on board was not until 8 pm so we had time to shoot some nice pictures in a beautiful light from the sun going down slowly . Have a great day everybody . Take Care and Stay Safe ! Tony 😅 All of a sudden my last three pictures were posted in a flash while the rest took a long time and I just noticed all of a sudden I posted a lot of repeats . Next time better ! 28

Horizon chaser 1957 Posted August 10, 2021 #82 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Good morning, all! Happy New Year to our Islamic members, and to anyone else who celebrates everyone’s New Year because life is short and you may as well. Yesterday was busy, so I’m taking full advantage of Lazy Day. Thank you, Rich. I would love to spoil my dog, but he’s been gone for a long time now. Some days I still drop my hand off the side of a chair and half expect to feel a familiar muzzle nudge it up. Yesterday was a chores, and cooking, and project day. Since the Delta variant is bringing masks back into play, I tried out a new pattern. It’s easier, takes less fabric, and looks and fits better. I don’t like the bias tape version. With narrower tape it would be OK. Happy Tuesday, and I hope those about the BHB in Alaska have a lovely Lazy Day!

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 10, 2021 #85 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Hope everyone is not getting bored with all the pictures of Lisbon and the surrounding areas, especially since DH just discovered I double posted one picture in the same post. Unfortunately, I can't blame this on the CC gremlins. 🤣 Right now, we're up to 2011, with 2016, 2017, and 2019 yet to come. Going through all the pictures from 11 visits to Lisbon has brought back many wonderful memories. With each visit, I seem to enjoy and like Lisbon more. In this case, familiarity does not breed comtempt. The Prinsendam arrived in the late afternoon on her TA. That night, we just walked off the ship after dinner and walked around the immediate area. The next day, we took a tour to Batalha and Fatima. Hopefully, these pictures of Batalha are not repeats. The graves of John 1 and Phillippa I'm not sure what I expected Fatima to be like, but this modern shrine was not it. The Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima The three children who saw the visions in 1917 were rebured in the church. I hope I've got the pictures of the graves correctly identified. The grave of Francisco who died in 1920. The graves of Jacinta who died in 1919, and Sister Lucia who died in 2005 at the age of 97. Looking across the plaza from the steps of the Basilica Lenda

Our problem now is that they are no longer flying out of Alberta so we have to fly out of Vancouver. Well, our TA managed to get WestJet to agree to refund our outbound flights, but they won't do it until after our return flights from Fort Lauderdale. A bit strange, but I guess they want to be sure we use at least that part. Now she will get on to BA. So maybe it will work out.
lazey1 Posted August 10, 2021 #87 Share Posted August 10, 2021 I have never been to Lisbon so I am very much enjoying all the beautiful photos. Every day for me is a lazy day, I love retirement. I don't have a dog so does spoiling my cats count? Pulled pork sandwiches are one of my favorites and would go very well with the wine of the day. The drink of the day sounds interesting and I would definitely try it. Jane
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 10, 2021 #88 Share Posted August 10, 2021 In 2016, when the Prinsendam stopped in Lisbon, we had a easy, relaxing day. We took the Metro into the main area and and walked around. These pictures are a combination from our walk and from the sail away, with some of the best weather we've had in Lisbon. The walkway from the Santa Justa Lift to the upper level of town. I'm glad we took the elevator in either 2002 or 2004 before the lines got so extremely long. Pictures from the ship and as we sailed back down the Tagus River. Lenda 20
cruzn single Posted August 10, 2021 #89 Share Posted August 10, 2021 The pictures of Lisbon are so wonderful. Many thanks to all for posting. I “should” have been in Lisbon on a TA last fall. I think we all can join the “woulda, coulda shoulda” crowd! After reading today’s quote about three times, I finally understood it! One of those DUH moments. Glad others were also perplexed. Got unsettling news after my mammogram, but have to wait for over a month for the follow-up tests. Scheduling is just so far out because of many delayed medical issues. I love pulled pork, it not fond of Carolina based sauces. Have a good afternoon and evening. And wine! 13

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 10, 2021 #93 Share Posted August 10, 2021 In 2017, the Prinsendam took us to Lisbon twice. The first time was on the way from northern Europe to the Mediterranean, and the last time was on the TA back to Fort Lauderdale. On our first visit, we took the train to Cascais, so here a few more pictures. I had forgotten our arrival for our second visit that year was later than normal, giving us a great sail in. The last two times we have been in Lisbon (2017 and 2019), we have tried to visit the MAAT (Eleciticity Museum). In 2017, we were there on a Tuesday and the museum was closed. In 2019, we were there on a Monday, but they had changed to day it was closed to Monday. Someday. 🤞 It's an off beat museum, but my father worked for the electric utility company, and DH worked for a sister company for five years, so it will be interesting to us. Once on shore, we took both loops of the Ho-Ho. These are from the first loop. The bull ring, but the bulls get to live! An unsual place for tiles Jerónimos Monastery The second Ho-Ho loop took us to the Park of Nations, a revitalized industrial area, where the 1998 Expo was held. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted August 10, 2021 #94 Share Posted August 10, 2021 I promise, these are the last pictures. They are from our 2019 Veendam cruise, and we were on our way to Boston. This time we took the yellow Ho-Ho, and it had a different route on both loops that covered the high points but some different neighborhoods too. A few more pictures of the Park of Nations area. A better view of the bull ring Rosario Station There was another advantage of the yellow bus. The ticket allowes you to ride the city buses too. I’ve had so many “call backs” which is what we called them at work. (In my last job I was a radiology scheduler.). Having dense tissue doesn’t help. I’m sure it will all work out. Take care.
smitty34877 Posted August 10, 2021 #98 Share Posted August 10, 2021 @cruzn single, I am so sorry you have to wait to have the next diagnostic test. It is never easy but waiting makes it more difficult. I went for my test last week and was amazed at how busy the office was. I will be thinking of you. The pictures of Lisbon brought back so many nice memories. There is so much to see and we loved those delicious tarts. I tried to post pictures again both from my laptop and phone but the black boxes were in my way. Sigh. Thank you to the picture posters who were able to do so in spite of difficulty. CruiseMGM Posted August 10, 2021 #99 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Certainly loving all the pictures and posts! We've never been to Lisbon but would like to visit some day. Closest we've come (Portugal-wise) is the Azores, which as a lot of fun. Closest PHYSICALLY is probably Madrid for a 19 hour layover. Still miss my Sorsha. And Lady. And Max. Wish I could spoil 'em a little more. Love my fur babies still. Sending MANY good wishes to cruzn single, waiting is the hardest part. I had a call-back once and I have family history, so it was definitely scary. I think I got through my month of waiting with a mantra of "early detection is the best cure." Thankfully, it was just dense tissue, and I sincerely hope the same for you. Glad to read I'm not the only one who had an initial "Huh?" moment with Maya's quote, LOL! What's liver & onions got to do with it? Hahahahha! Mmmmmmm, pulled pork, YUM. Best wishes to all, and especially our Islamic brothers and sisters who are celebrating their new year.
Vic The Parrot Posted August 10, 2021 #100 Share Posted August 10, 2021 Koningsdam is docked in San Pedro at Berth92. You can get a great view of her on the port webcam. And Grand Princess is docked behind her. Not sure when both are sailing, tho. 6
