Good morning, Daily friends!  Thanks for all the good stuff.  I have never had pulled pork, but it sounds lovely, I do like pork, especially bacon!

We are in the throes of trying to organize changes to our travel in October. We had planned to visit Pat's relatives in England before the cruise out of Venice, but we've decided it would be safer to fly directly to Italy, so we have to figure out if we can delay the England flights to next year and switch over to Flight Ease to get to Italy.  We had had credits from WestJet from previous cancelled flights so had used them through our TA, and now want to put her off again!  If we can, then I have to get on to our PCC and try to get us to Venice on the right day, it seems so much simpler to let HAL get us organized and on to the ship.

We have been to Lisbon a few times, but I know there will be lots of new stuff for us to see when we visit in November.   A beautiful city, if rather decrepit.  I'll post a few pictures.

The same day, we took the train from Rosario Staton to Sintra.  Since we were on foot in Sintra, we walked around the area by the train station and did not attempt to climb up to the palace.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Thanks to all contributors here.  Healing hugs 🤗 to those on the care list and cheers 🎉 to the celebratory list.

We have been to Lisbon four times.  Will try to not duplicate what has already been posted.

The first was a TA on =X= Solstice (12/2/11).  We took a walking tour (for tips) that was great.  Saw all the usual suspects, but just happened to catch this fellow driving a tram.

Ahhh

Second visit was another TA on =X= Constellation (12/4/12).  Grainy, but different.

This time we just did our own thing and had to stop for a shot of this.

Next was a TA on Ruby Princess (5/6/14).  Found another Ginjinha window!

Followed by -- you guessed it!

Our last time in Lisbon was a  two night stay (4/17 & 4/18/18) prior to a wonderful land tour (Paradores & Pousadas) of Portugal and Spain and the photos from that visit would be duplicates of other posters.

I was getting that black box trying to see the poster's pix who is currently cruising on the NA.  Then I clicked on the tiny box in the middle of the box, and voila, they opened!

Thanks.  I tried that for uploading my pics.  No dice.  They are black and won’t even insert.

I’ve truly befuddled on this one.  I’ve never had this problem before.

Good morning from soon to be Glacier Bay! Doesn’t look like we will be having blue skies out there. In fact looking at advance weather reports not sure if that will be the case for the rest of the cruise. There is a certain mystique about gray skies in Alaska.

We ate in Pinnacle Grill last night and it was jammed pack with diners. A couple of the servers we have had from previous cruises and of course they recognized  us. Food was great, serves exemplary. I believe the beef is better than the previous DD ranch supplier. Never thought the steaks were as good as was the previous Sterling beef.

The internet at 5:30 AM is pretty speedy. We’ll see as others awake and start using it.

Life is good.

Wish all of you were here!

Thanks to all.

Chief, have a Great day in Glacier Bay.  Are the Salmon running?

The Belem Tower is the city's icon and is also a symbol of the Age of Discovery. Built in the early 1500s, this ornate watchtower has been declared a World Heritage monument by UNESCO.

image.png.e1d03ee74a1f9cf18dc4392f2aa8bd06.png

In the same area is the Discoveries Monument, built on the north bank of the Tagus River in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator.

image.png.4309e125d7490f218ee05edaf9b2f8b0.png

It represents a three-sailed ship ready to depart, with sculptures of important historical figures such as King Manuel I carrying an armillary sphere, poet Camões holding verses from The Lusiads, Vasco da Gama, Magellan, Cabral, and several other notable Portuguese explorers, crusaders, monks, cartographers, and cosmographers, following Prince Henry the Navigator at the prow holding a small vessel. The only female is queen Felipa of Lancaster, mother of Henry the navigator, the brain of the discoveries.

image.png.cbc096ca99936b855d407424e8a24f26.png

The pavement in front of the monument is decorated with a mosaic that was offered by the South African government in 1960, representing a compass with the map of the world charting the routes taken by the Portuguese explorers.

By the base of the monument is a wind rose.

Wind roses are graphical charts that characterize the speed and direction of winds at a location. Presented in a circular format, the length of each "spoke" around the circle indicates the amount of time that the wind blows from a particular direction. Colors along the spokes indicate categories of wind speed.

@kazu  Jacqui, I had a problem with pictures being black the other day when I clicked on choose files, and I could not get rid of them.  I tried reselecting them and they uploaded and I was able to post them.  Not sure if this is exactly what is happening with you, but there seem to be gremlins inhabiting CC lately. 😁

@Vict0riann Ann, we have been using HAL to book our overseas flights for the last several years.  They seem to have better fares, especially if you want business.  We found, if we search for the flights we want, then get our PCC to book them, we have good connections.  Otherwise, if their computer says you can make a very tight connection, and they book it, it cannot be changed, or at least not without a hefty change fee.

I'm still going through pictures, as I said, we've been there at least 11 times, so we try to find something different each time, while still seeing our favorite places.

We were there in 2009 on Tatihian Princess and took a tour to Sintra and Cascais, mainly so we could see the rest of Sintra.

These are from Sintra.

We could not tour the palace that day as it was closed, but we saw this model.

Well, my "lazy" day has gotten off to a late start. This morning I had the "pleasure" of visiting the MVA. I received notice that I couldn't get the car registration renewed (due by 8/31) until I removed DH's name from the title. Of course I got this notice at the end of July! I was given a list of necessary documents to bring by the customer service rep by phone, but of course when I arrived, the clerk wanted additional items. Thank heavens I overprepared and had everything. Actually, I was in & out of the office in an hour, so I count that as a win! And I'm not going to do anything for the rest of the day - it's too hot!

Thanks to everyone who posts today! Stay safe & well.

Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy.

I was absent yesterday. DM had her “mapping” scan for her radiation treatments and of course we also went out to lunch. This time we went to Red Lobster and I got fish and chips because all the pictures of fish from @grapau27 were driving me crazy. 😉 I’m sure Graham’s is better though.

Happy Islamic New Year. I don’t seem to have a problem spoiling Blue every day and he loves it. 😉🐾.

The Smithsonian is wonderful and I hope I can revisit someday. I tagged along with Craig when he went for a conference October 1989. He had been going almost every year for this same conference when he owned his own company and he has been able to go with his current employer because their home office is nearby.  I’ll never forget that I was there when the San Francisco earthquake happened.

Funny, I have a pork shoulder in the fridge to make carnitas. I’ll be able to make pulled pork with the leftovers in a few days. But tonight we will have burrito bowls with the carnitas. I use this recipe:
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/melissa-darabian/pork-carnitas-recipe-1925103

I had a long conversation with my PCC yesterday. I haven’t gotten my credits yet from the canceled Zaandam Holiday cruise and I had to make final payment on our October cruise. I told her that they better get applied to the Rotterdam Holiday cruise. Then we had to go over everything again. I’ve never had 3 cruises scheduled before!  It’s crazy to keep track of everything.

Have a great day everyone!

@Quartzsite Cruiser, yes, we really like Flight Ease especially for one-way travel, and we use it for TA's if we can.  We did have some credit notes  from cancelled flights with WestJet, though, and originally used them to book our way to England.  Now we want out!   If they say they won't give us the credit back for next year, we'll have to bite the bullet and just change to a flight somewhere in Europe!  We also have BA tickets to try to transfer to next year.  Hope it works out.

We spent two weeks in Portugal and enjoyed It very much.   One of our favourite sites in Lisbon was the amazing highly rated museum and The Fado!

Great pics!  We love Fado too.  Which venue did you enjoy your Fado at?  The spot by the museum?

I’m debating on asking my favourite little spot if they would start earlier for a private Flamenco show or looking for somewhere else to go.  Our ship leaves too early and we need to be back on board by 10:30 pm 😔

A picture taken from a hillside above Lisbon, looking across rooftops towards the Monument To Christ in the distance.

image.png.42644904d0ae15dd277875182ee27c9b.png

Built in 1959 in thanks to God for having spared Portugal during WWII, this enormous monument to Christ was inspired by the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro.

(Picture from the internet)

The 28m (90ft) figure of Christ opens its arms to Lisbon, and there is a sweeping view of the city and of 25 de Abril Bridge from the top of the 82m (270ft)-high pedestal (reached by an elevator).

Completely agree.  There are gremlins on CC.

I’ve tried re loading the pics 3 times and was able to get a couple more up but the res are all black.  Frustrating!

Wishing you luck, dealing with the airlines is never fun, but we found BA surprisingly good about refunding when they cancelled the flights.  Our problem now is that they are no longer flying out of Alberta so we have to fly out of Vancouver.
