Didn‘T lose your sense of smell till you took the test?

Pretty sure there was no cause and effect. Lost my sense of smell eight hours later.

Now just trying to retain my sense of humor.

She should be fine.  My husband had covid, spent 3 or 4 days in hospital and we were told to test 14 days after to see if we could get out of quarantine.  All was fine.

Asymptomatic people should test negative even sooner.

Latest science publication I have read says vaccinated + asymptomatic infected people will have a max of 12 days to test positive in a PCR test (4 days active infection, 12 days max to clear the virus).  I hope that is enough time ahead of OP's September cruise, because this turn of events is horrid.

I wish you hope and wellness, OP!

My wife popped positive on PCR for 7 weeks, 10 days after her 2 day symptoms disappeared.  She was WFH for 7 weeks due to her work requiring negative PCR. You get a nice clump of dead virus in a nasal crevice pit you can pop for months.

One of the reasons testing asymptomatic vaccinated individuals does not tell you anything other than they ingested a viral load at some point in the last X number of months. I am way past my schooling as to the viability of RNA testing in terms of years, although DNA can be recovered for decades. Cov is an RNA virus, I know RNA degrades much faster, but I have no clue as to the degradation of the specific amino acids the NAAT tests look for. And younger individuals clear out the dead remnants faster than older. PCR (a NAAT test) does not distinguish between live and dead virus, just that the particles are there. So you can ingest a nice viral load, have your wonderful vaccine induced immune system kill it off, and pop positive.

It also means you will never cruise again because you will always test positive?

Utter rubbish. I know someone who tested positive on 17 July this year - and with symptoms, not asymptomatic. He had another PCR test 3 weeks later as he needed it to travel abroad, and tested negative.

Document of a positive Covid test and letter from physician / health care providers that the patient has fully recovered from an episode of Covid during the previous 90 period.

Ace2542:  Please go to medical school and do a residency and then a fellowship in infectious disease before you make such asinine, incorrect and dangerous comments on a public forum.

You don't mention your wife's vaccination status when she got her mild case of Covid?

I got a very mild case of Covid back in May of 2020.  No testing available to me (at the time) because no high/dangerous fever, but I have never tested positive since then, once Colorado enacted widespread and easily available testing.  I have done nasal and spit testing to validate this ever ending cough is asthma.

This is our biggest fear.  I hope you feel 100% and test negative fast.

We can quarantine for months, test negative at home 72 hours prior, but then getting into a small airplane headed to the ship, even with wearing masks and dousing ourselves in hand sanitizer, is the problem I foresee happening.

Thank you. I am feeling ok, some nasal and chest congestion with an occasional cough.  Still no sense of smell, but that’s not all bad.   But hate having to miss this cruise.  But there are plenty more in my future..

We were scheduled to sail the Allure OTS tomorrow.  First time cruising with my sister, first time in Two Bedroom Grand Suite.  Alas, it is not to be.

I did the PCR test Thursday at a local CVS and later that day, loss my sense of smell.  What?  This could not be happening.  But it was.  Got the test results Friday night and it was positive.  I notified everyone I had been in contact with and let my sister know the cruise was off for us.

I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Royal last night, sent them the test results, and our cruise was officially cancelled.  All monies are to be refunded within 30 to 45 days.  This morning, called the travel insurer and cancelled that policy.  Money to be refunded in five to seven days.

I emailed Dexter, the SL concierge to let him know to release my Coastal Kitchen reservations.  I think that is it.

As disappointed as I am, I see the value of requiring the test shortly before cruising, even for vaccinated cruisers. It would be awful to infect others and to be sick on the ship.  Kudos to Royal and travel insurer for agreeing to refund all payments, and to my sister for caring more about me than a cruise.  I know my September cruise will be all the better after having to miss this one.

So sorry.  Hope it's just a cold like it was for me.

Unfortunately, this is how it's going to be for a long time.  ENDEMIC - not PANDEMIC.

Sorry you can't' sail but hope you are getting well.  What phone number did you call to cancel your cruise because of positive test and to get a refund?

I called the main number, but they switched me over to Club Royale.  I spoke with Mary at CR, who was nice and helpful.  This was originally a casino comp, which I upgraded at booking to a GS, then upgraded again thru Royal Up.  She put me on hold two times, to get supervisor approval for both the test result paperwork, then the cancellation and refund.  They manually cancelled the cruise and it immediately disappeared from my future cruise list.

I had the same situation for a cruise that had been cancelled by Royal (Indy 7-17-21).  It had been hanging around on my upcoming cruise list forEVER even though it had long before been cancelled.  I was able to speak with a Club Royale agent who spoke with someone else and it immediately disappeared from my future cruise list.  It is my understanding that as long as the cruise appears in your list of upcoming cruises, the refund process has not officially started (in other words, the "clock" is not yet running for your 45 day refund) so I am always leery of cruises that are in my "list" but have been cancelled.

Could be worse. Could be positive on way home and they wont let you fly and lock you inside a hostel like a prison and feed you worse than a dog for 14 days like they do in some european countries.

And yes its THAT bad.

Thanks for your ray of sunshine.

Why wouldn't she be?  As long as she is testing negative by the time the cruise comes along- she should be fine.   I guess the part that gets tricky is that she will have the antibodies and might not necessarily need to be vaxxed for reason. I suppose they could refuse her boarding based on non-vaxxed status- although she didn't post her vax status.
It's so tricky since vaxxed people can still get it and spread it.

I know a lady who was in a quarantine hotel at Heathrow last month as was inbound from an African country on the red list. She said it was surprisingly OK. Her food was delivered hot and tasty 3 times a day, she had two outdoor exercise sessions a day and enjoyed watching Wimbledon for hours on end without feeling guilty!
