Good  morning  everyone.  I  am really  late  today  as  I  was  trying  to  prepare  food  and  clean  up  a  little  before  my  DB  and   DSIL  arrive  for  a  late  lunch. They  are  on  their  way  to  JFK  and  then  home  to  New Mexico.

I  enjoyed  "Young  Frankenstein"  especially and  love  the  beach  and  marshmallows. I  think  my  grandchildren  would  enjoy  the  chicken  recipe  but  would  not   like  the  peas. Today  we  are  having  pasta  with  cece  ,a  favorite  of  my  DB's. Thankfully,  it  is  a  quick  recipe to  put  together. I   am  trying  to  come  up  with  something  different  to  bring  our  Tana  and  her  son  tonight. It  is  a  warm  muggy  day  here  so  I  am  thinking  of  either  grilling  something  or  just  making  some  salads.

I  will  join  everyone  in  sending  prayers  to  those  in  Ida's  destructive  path  and  without  power in  the  South. I  am  also  thinking  of  our  soldiers  and  those  trying  to  flee  Afghanistan. There  is so  much  going  on  all  at  once.

@mamaofami, I  hope  Sam  is  able  to  return  home  today and I  am  so  glad  you  have  such  a  wonderful  family  nearby.

@Norseh2o, Congratulations  on  the  new  birth  in  the  family.

A  beach,  any  beach    This was  Prince  Edward  Island

👍Thank you for The Daily Rich @richwmn and to Roy @rafinmd for both the Care and Celebration Lists. 😊

Both the North and South islands of New Zealand are beautiful and if we were able to travel, we would love returning and driving around.😉

🤔How do you pronounce Whangarei? Fang-a-ray or Wang-a-ray.

🙏Prayers to all in need. Stay safe!😷

Good morning everyone.

Sam left here by ambulance yesterday afternoon. He had chest pain and pain down his arm. The medics asked me to give him 4 baby aspirin to chew as they were on the way. The hospital did blood work, a CAT scan of his chest and an EKG. Everything was normal. They moved him to a room for observation and might do a stress test this AM. If everything is normal, he will come home. Once again, my kids stepped up. I don’t know what I would do without them.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Oh no!  Hoping he spent a quiet night and gets home today.

Carol, I'm sorry to hear about Sam's episode of chest pain yesterday, but glad to hear the tests came back normal.  Having your kids near you to help out is a real blessing at these times.  Mine live too far away which is worrisome as we age.  Your mention of the baby aspirin prompts me to plan to purchase some "just in case" we ever need some in an emergency.  I don't even have adult dosage aspirin in our house!   Hoping Sam comes home today.

Hi Sandi.

When I had an unusual pain high up in my chest Pauline insisted I went to A&E (ER) especially as I looked pale.

I chewed 3 full size aspirin and drove to the hospital.

All my tests were fine until the blood test showed proteins.

The first thing the consultant said was had I had an aspirin because he said I had a mild heart attack and he was pleased when I said I had.

They rushed me straight into cardiac care.

2 days later I had a stent fitted during an angioplasty.

The surgeon said there was no heart damage and this was down probably by taking Aspirin quickly.

Always have Aspirin at home or in your bag in case of chest pain.

Take care everyone.

Graham.

Spent a long time talking to my son this morning. The worst of the storm has past and Ida did a number but his home wasn’t flooded. I guess there was a couple of feet before it breached the house. He did find some leaks even with a new roof but those are things he can fix. I can relax a little. I guess being on the east side of a hurricane means you get the tail so he will still have another 24 hours of downpours. He said he was sorry I had to worry but I told him it was part of being a mother and was written in the contract. Even at 36 I still worry about him and always will.

Linda, yes, mother's always worry about their "babies" even when they are grown and capable.  My DF once told me when I was grown and a mother of two that I "would always be his little girl".  It's part of being a parent.

Bright and sunny here today, again. We are supposed to have rain and a cool down beginning Wednesday. I'll believe it when it happens. I have several friends in the New Orleans area and hear from other friends that they (and their pets) are all safe. Several left and a couple rode it out but not in the heart of town. I remember several hurricanes when I lived in Maryland ... scary.

Have not been to New Zealand. Like others, I have it on my bucket list. I skipped scary movies when I was young but I will take the toasted "mellows" any time.

Am trying to wrap up some shelter business today. We are having trouble getting anyone to commit to a new metal roof for the shelter before the winter comes. Metal is one of things going up rapidly in price and the price changes while we are in negotiation. Not the kind of stress this old lady needs.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. I like the old Frankenstein movies (and I don't like scary things, but as an adult they are more campy than scary). and Young Frankenstein. Not a fan of toasted marshmallows, and probably the only person who hasn't ever had a s'more. I like beaches; I grew up at the shore and miss the ocean and walking on the beach.

Good quote.

I'll take the chicken tenders, sans potatoes and peas. Pass on the drink and wine.

I've been to New Zealand, but not this far north to this port.

It's a little cooler here, which is nice. We're supposed to get rain from Ida on Wednesday, with some possible flooding. Prayers for Louisiana and everyone in Ida's path. Also thinking of our soldiers and  those trying to flee Afghanistan.

@KirkNC Moving is work. Good luck!

@grapau27 Thanks for the lovely pictures.

@JAM37 Prayers for your DH to get better day by day.

@mamaofami Oh my! Glad Sam's tests are ok so far. Glad your kids are there for you.

@Seasick Sailor With my booster I got a lump on my arm that's still there 3 days later and still somewhat sore; but totally worth it regardless.

@summer slope I think you were smart to decline; I would have done the same.

@lindaler I'm glad your son's home didn't suffer much damage.

@durangoscots I'm glad your friends are safe. Good luck with the shelter roof.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list.

Stay safe, social distance and wear your mask in close quarters.

Good morning, all! I was so late yesterday I missed entirely. I could definitely use  Beach Day today, but instead we are packing up and heading to the mainland to get ready for DDs return to Taiwan.

Cutting straight to the port: we were in Whangarie New Zealand with the Amsterdam in early 2020, before everything unraveled. It’s a tender port, and as the crew lowered the tenders, the dolphins started swimming around them and leaping. It was an exciting welcome to the Bay of Islands! We strolled around town and did some shopping. There was an Artisan Market in the town square. That was where I was first introduced to botanical printing, which has kept me sane(ish) through the past year and a bit. We then took a tour in a private van with a handful of fellow passengers. The wife sold tickets by the info Center for hourly tours. She had a basket of fresh picked peaches from their own tree that she shared with those of us waiting. The husband drove the van and gave the tour. He showed us town, including the old stone church shared amongst the various denominations. Then we went for a tour of attractions near town. At the end of the tour, he even dropped us off at the tender pier to save the walk back from town. As soon as we were back on the ship, the skies opened and it poured. The timing was perfect!

Just got our 72 hour update from the County Health Department: 945 new cases! 401 of those being in the 25-49 year old age range. Our county population is about 1.2M. We have 62.4% with at least one dose and 56.7% fully vaccinated. I am hoping more can be convinced to be vaccinated.

Thank you so much for the wonderful photos of your day in Whangarie!  It's exciting to hear that your stop there changed your future so much.  Your last photo with your scarf is fantastic.  I like the colors you put together and the textured leaf detail.

Happy Monday!  Yesterday we completed stage 1 of our move to Ocracoke island.  Lots of boxes to unpack.

I hope those in the path of Ida stay safe.

Congratulations on your move, I hope it’s everything you hope it to be.  We are actually at Nags Head for the week and it is HOT.  Ocracoke is a gorgeous island, I love the white sand.

Watching the news and seeing the devastation that Ida has already caused is heartbreaking.  We pray that all affected are helped quickly, and First Responders stay safe in such treacherous situations.

@Horizon chaser 1957  We were in the Bay of Islands in 2002 on the Asia Pacific Explorer Cruise on the Volendam.  We took a local van tour of the area and then did the boat tour out to the Hole in the Rock.  We must have been there when it was not during a drought, and the Haruru Falls were pretty spectacular.

I think I'll save the rest of my pictures until Paihia is the port of the day.
