I believe you have to apply for it and be approved within 3 weeks of your sailing.

 

I’ve applied for it early on ( around 7 months) and never had a problem.  As long as the cruise is within the time slot for the credit is the most crucial thing, I believe.

You can apply as early as you want provided the benefit has been extended through your sail date (I believe through July 2022 currently) I believe you are supposed to apply at least 3 weeks out but generally speaking as soon as you book a cruise in the window I would send in the documentation and just be done with it.

We just received refusal for each of the 2 December cruises we applied for stockholders OBC.

What fare type are you on?  Is this a casino rate?

There's a difference.  If you book under a fare that gives a casino discount, you should get the SH OBC.  If you book a "free" or even deeply-discounted (i.e. the free cabins are gone but you can book the same category for $199/pp (which is what I did on my Zuiderdam sailing)), then it is denied.

 

That's the case with my upcoming sailings - Eurodam was "free" so no OBC; Nieuw Amsterdam is a regular fare but with a casino discount.  That one was accepted.

 

Carnival always used to give them to everyone except interline, even free cabins, but they've just recently stopped giving it on free cruises.  I think that's fair.

That’s the $100,000 question.  No one seems to know.  I think a lot of it has to do with duration.  I’ve never been much of a gambler.  I don’t think I’ve gone into the casino the last few cruises.  I did however sit for quite a while on a machine on Princess.  I did get one email offer from Princess with some very good pricing but I’d just come back from a cruise so I couldn’t do it.  I’ve never seen another offer.

Same here. My gains from purchasing far outweigh the OBC received from the stock holder benefit. I’m holding onto the stock to see where it goes I’m the future.

New data point -- sent a fax on 10/30 and just now (11/10) got an email saying that the credit had been applied. I thought the fax was lost, so I emailed them last weekend, but the email I received referenced the fax.

 

BTW, it appears that faxes get sent to the same place as email, since I found this at the bottom of the email.

As has-been mentioned many times bring proof on the ship with you.  Currently on Rotterdam what they had was nowhere near what it is supposed to be.  Land and Sea in my experience often are not on the same page.  I wish it was different......it just isnt.

You should be able to see the OBC on your cruise confirmation. Ask for a current one that shows it. I don't understand how something that's on there would not transfer to the ship, but I guess it's possible.

Ah if it was so simple.  It's more than "possible". I always bring back up on the ship and have needed it at times.  One can get lucky for a long time until.........

Hi, All,

I received the following response from HAL related to my shareholder request. My original message went out 09/14/21. I received the response 09/27/21. I made a print version to take onboard. Good hunting!

 

"Thank you for your request to have a shipboard credit applied to reservation(s) XXXXXX based on your status as a CCL stockholder

 

Holland America Line has applied the shipboard credit of $100.00 USD to your booking and it will be credited to your onboard account upon embarkation.  If you have further questions about your Carnival Shareholder Benefit, please let us know.  If you are booked through a travel agency and have booking related questions, please contact your travel adviser. 

 

We look forward to welcoming you onboard in the near future."

My wife emailed her shareholder benefit on 11/16 and I did mine on 11/6 as well (from separate email accounts).  We both received our emails 12/01 confirming our credit, but it doesn't show up on our online account. So maybe it never will according to this?   "Holland America Line has applied the shipboard credit of $100.00 USD to your booking and it will be credited to your onboard account upon embarkation."

You only see it if you booked directly with HAL.  If you use a TA, you don’t see the obc.  Just take you email with you printed out to be safe and you will be fine.  If you use a TA, when you get your final confirmation after you do your final payment you should see it added to the OBC.
