What exact restrictions are in place for non-vaccinated passengers?

if you are on CCL- unless you are exempt- you are not sailing. 95% vaccinated ships.

For the most part, the only unvaccinated passengers are under 12.

Non-vaxed children who not able to get the vaccination are required to use the bubble tours from the ship only.  Since the younger ones 5 to 11 are now able to get the vaccination, waiting to hear what CCL has to say about it.

Just a question, but do you think they will ever open up to non vaccinated people?  Just asking what people think the cruise lines will do.

Based on what the most recent CSO document extension said from the CDC, it looks like they are planning on allowing cruise lines to self regulate to an extent starting early next year. That being said, I wouldn't get my hopes too high that most of the restrictions will go away very quickly.

 Carnival will have to proceed with an abundance of caution when they do. But i  also hope they are working out these issues now. to make it a smoother transition

As long as other contries have vaccine mandates for unvaccanated people, that means that all cruise lines must adhear to it, for example the Bahamas has a Vaccine mandade that a ship can not even dock to any of there ports with an unvacanated person on it with the exceptions being under 12 and medicaly except, so don't expevt the rules to go away anytime soon.

I personally think that many/most isolated ports of call will leave their vaccination requirements in place - so many/most cruise lines will leave their current requirements unchanged. 

 

We *may* see more cruises to nowhere, but that will come down to where the dollars are.  Will unvaxxed cruisers pay more for a portless voyage than they'll lose from folks who were counting on a beach day?  I'm not sure how interested lines will be in taking that risk, given their own vested interest in preventing outbreaks.  

 

We shall see, I suppose!

Did the Bahamas extend their order? The information I read said that it was originally written to extend through today.

To my knowledge, they removed all reference to an expiration date about a month ago, and have made no attempt to set an expiration date since.  I've been treating that as a decision of sorts - I am not expecting to see them allow unvaccinated visitors for the foreseeable future.

Very good point.

 

Covid is a world wide pandemic (I guess thats what pandemic means right? 😛 )

 

As much as certain countries are not requiring vaccines, removing restrictions, etc. there are countries that are still BEGINNING to recover.

If you are defining ‘ever’ literally, then yes. Someday I’m sure Covid will no longer be in our daily vocabulary and ‘vaccine mandates’ will fall in line with all the other vaccines that are recommended. That day may be 20 years from now… but someday between now and forever, yes. I also feel confident that that day will not be in 2022. Maybe not 2023.

Children are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, though that should be very soon. And to be considered fully vaccinated you must get both doses, and then wait 2 weeks.

 

So, it will still be quite a while until there are fully vaccinated children.

Except cruises to nowhere are now illegal so I don't see that happening.

They are not exactly illegal, but are cost prohibitive because the crew would all have to get a much more expensive work visa.

Not true.  The PVSA states that no foreign flagged ships can transport people back and forth from the same port without visiting a foreign port.  All cruise ships except 1 NCL ship are foreign flagged, so it is illegal for the majority of them,

Wrong! It says that no foreign flagged ship can transport people FROM ONE US PORT TO ANOTHER without visiting a foreign port.

I'm guessing Carnival is about to further restrict the limited exemptions they are giving for unvaccinated cruisers, given that ages 5-11 are now eligible to be vaccinated.  We are cruising on 12/26 with my 11 year old.  I had her vaccinated today.  Her second dose will be 11/24.  That means she will be fully vaccinated by the time we cruise.  I'm thinking that will pretty much be Carnival's expectation, so I wouldn't think Carnival will be granting many exemptions from mid-December cruises forward (other than those they have already given).   I have nothing to base this on other than the pressure I felt personally to get this done so that my family could freely wander the ports as we choose!

Update since your post:  It will be exactly 5 weeks from today when there are fully vaccinated children.  (hallelujah!!!!)   My daughter was vaccinated today.  Second dose in 3 weeks.  Two weeks after that, she is good to go.   With a couple weeks to spare before our cruise!!!!

Actually, it will be 5 weeks plus one more day. I can't really explain that except to say there was a thread a few weeks ago where someone was turned down exactly 2 weeks after the second dose and it was explained that one more day was necessary. (And the Carnival can do no wrong crowd was somehow vigorously defending this.)

 

Of course your daughter will still be well within the timeframe, but I thought I should add this clarification.

With regards to cruises to nowhere, they aren't against the PVSA. Its a rule from Immigration regarding the visas the crew hold. The crew hold a US visa that is specific to them working on a cruise ship that goes to a foreign port. A casino boat wanted to use the same type of visa for their workers, versus a "standard" visa. Immigration determined that just going out and back did not qualify for the cruise worker visa. Unfortunately, this also stopped all cruises to nowhere, barring unexpected happening (weather, etc).

And even with an unexpected happening, they would be in violation but then be able to appeal due to the unexpected violation.

 

Again it is not the PVSA that is barring cruises to nowhere. If a cruise line wanted to take on the extra expense of the necessary work visa for all crew members, they then could offer a cruise to nowhere.

This is exactly what a cruise to nowhere is. Leaving from a US port, going nowhere, and returning to a US port.
