What is one thing you wish Carnival did differently?

As I stated above carnival is not the whole industry. Rcl allows just one in a cabin to purchase the pkg, the other a non alcoholic pkg. Lowest I've seen the refreshment pkg is $20 a day, so 140 for 7 days for non alcoholic drinks ..

Celebrity and ncl include drinks. Celebrity has gone to inclusive.

Carnival is not the whole industry. They all do it differently.

But how much does Celebrity charge for their version of Cheers?  From what ive heard, CCL’s is the lowest.  So if Celebrity’s is more expensive AND they require the refreshment pkg for the other adult, then maybe it ends up being about the same as CCL with 2 people with Cheers??

edit, I just looked...their cheaper one is $59/day and their premium one is $69/day.

The Celebrity’s Classic soft beverage is $19/day.   So if a couple opted for one getting $59/day (cheaper liquors) and one getting $19/day, then maybe Celebrity has done the math and getting nearly $80/day is enough?

Some like to cherry pick this or that, but you have to look at the total cost of the cruise. I don't see many $25 staterooms on Celebrity or others.

NCL (and Princess) have options where a drink package is included, but NCL charges gratuities on their "Free at Sea", Princess doesn't.

People who try to compare one cruise line attribute to a different cruise line attribute aren't comparing apples to apples.

But that isn’t any sort of deal.  I was thinking something like a cabin could pre-buy a 10 drinks per day pkg....which would be 70 drinks for a 7 night cruise.....and maybe pay $475...and either adult can use the 10 drinks per day.  So one adult could drink 2 and the other could drink 8 or each could drink 5 or whatever.

Agree. I’m just saying that the devil could be in the details.

While I may not like CCL’s policy about Cheers, I understand it.

Others can do what we’ve done and traveled with another couple where one doesn’t drink and we’ve “assigned” me to cabin with THAT person because I don’t drink much (the wine bottles brought on board are plenty for me).  But then we actually put ourselves really in the cabins with our own spouses.

Carnival also allows you to purchase bottles of liquor for the stateroom that would be cheaper than paying for individual drinks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Carnival has figured that into the price of Cheers and the rules they have made.

I would have to “do the math”.  Lol. Earlier I glanced at the prices and they seemed high.  I think I would rather just pay for each drink if Cheers wasn’t right for me math-wise.  At least that way I could have a variety of drinks...some with rum, some with vodka, some with Tequila, some with whiskey, some with liqueurs....and maybe a beer or two.

Frankly, I’m always shocked at the idea of Cheers people drinking 10+ drinks per day.  I’d fall over the railing if I had 3 drinks within a few hours.  #Lightweight #CheapDrunk

Some hit 15 and think they are still sober. They may still be able to walk, but I think BAC would tell a different story.

probably not on a sea day, which from about 8:30 am to 12 or 1AM I could see myself coming close to 15 and not be overly indulged, but I'm also 250 lbs

I'm a little confused. I said that was the policy on royal Caribbean.. one can get drinks and one can get the refreshment pk.

Celebrity went all inclusive .. basic drinks included though you can buy up one or two levels to more expensive booze brands.

Carnival doesnt have anything between soda pkg and cheers .. they dont offer other beverage pkgs

Rcl pkgs vary and have pre sales, we expect lower drink pkgs for black friday. Like 43 a day for drinks and 19 a day for beverage, 9 or 10 for soda. Etc. Maybe we shouldn't give carnival ideas on more dri k pkgs.  Lol

I like that carnival allows drinks up to $20. I like rcl allows you to start the drink pkg day 1 out of Galveston and also you can use you card and drink pkg on the private islands. Like I had cheers and went to mahogany bay .. but carnival doesnt allow you to use your cheers on the beach.  So there are many differences in drink pkgs. Some I'd like carnival to implement. Of course I want it all.

On a sea day it's not hard, really. If you're up around 8ish and start with a mimosa or bloody mary, and just have a drink every hour or so, by 11pm you've had 15 and you've probably not felt all that drunk.

If you're a one-and-done kinda gal you could still do one drink every other hour and still come out on top if you are having coffee, soda, virgin drinks in between!

What would I change...

1) take cheers on HMC and Princess Cay. The infrastructure is there to make it possible to connect to the ships system if they really wanted to.

2) more importantly, make the drink package unlimited, then there's not really a worry about not being able to keep track of what number a person is at, because there is no limit!

3) Annd, I want robes for all cabin types. It's a stupid little thing, but dang it, I like having a robe in the closet to wear when I get up in the morning or while I'm doing my makeup for dinner or whatever.

Sorry for the mix-up.

I mean… I’ve hit 15 a few times. I didn’t drive anywhere, but I definitely thought I was going places. 😆😆

I believe Firefly was talking about Royal Caribbeans drink packages which are not the same as Celebrity although they are both under the same corporate umbrella.

If they are comparing the prices of the drink packages what does the cost of the cruise have to do with anything. Of course the total price of the cruise with the drink package would be cheaper,YAY Carnival that isn't what is being compared.

To break up this discussion of drink packages...

  • I agree that I wish Carnival offered double points when sailing solo.
  • Similar to on NCL, I wish Carnival offered discounts on spa services, excursions, etc based on your loyalty level
  • I wish they had better theater shows. The singers and dancers are talented, but every show is really just singing songs with no real plot. NCL's Broadway style shows are my favorite.
  • GIVE ME REAL STRAWS AND NONE OF THAT EDIBLE STRAW CRAP

You can't buy a drink package without buying the cruise first.

You can get robes with any cabin type.  Just request them from your cabin steward. They will bring you one very quickly.

With the exception of casino offers, which is a whole different can of worms, make all other offers good for everyone.  The target marketing of the RU1-2-3 codes for Cheers was going to make me walk away from Carnival, until I saw the Excel Class renderings.  If not for Carnival finally stepping up their game, it would have been easy to walk away for good.  I have 10 bookings on four other lines as it is, it just would have been 15 bookings, after factoring in my 5 Excel sailings.
