Good morning everyone. Today is Sam’s birthday and we finally decided we would all go to one of our daughter’s homes and she would put out 3 tables, one for each family and we would celebrate with masks on. It’s supposed to be close to 60, but it’s been raining so not sure how we will pull this off.

Our friend in hospice died yesterday. The funeral is today and will be zoomed from their synagogue and the cemetery will also be zoomed. We spoke to his wife NYE because we’ve spent at least 56 New Years Eves with them. It’s a sad day for our whole family as we watch the funeral later and then celebrate Sam.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

LOL 😂 Yup, the other taste of the pill pockets worked for one pill and then it was reject time again.

I think he has found the pills inside chewing and it’s now “ok Marley, we can do this the easy way or the hard way”.  He’s opted for the hard way.  Stupid (no he’s smart) dog. 😡

Must be the pill sizes as he has used the pill pockets before with no issue.

Miniature marshmallows should do the trick.  My male Border Collie also quickly caught on to the pill pockets but he couldn't resist a miniature marshmallow or the pill hidden inside a piece of chicken.   Good luck.

Good morning  to all.Safe travels home to our intrepid cruisers. Thanks @richwmn,for your trip reporting and ever faithful publication  of the Daily.

It is an interesting  group of days and a recipe well liked in this extended household.I now make vegetarian meatballs for one half of the group and they are quite tasty.Today we are having sole oreganata as a treat with a big salad.

We have not been to the port and look forward  to pictures.

@ger_77,I laughed yesterday as DH and I saw the same movie on NYE and found it pretty dark as well.Oh well.

It is warm and rainy here and the dogs were not interested in a long walk earlier.Hopefully the weather will clear later.

All the best

Terry

Good morning! We are contemplating cancelling our trip to Cancun this week. DW’s identical twin sister was going with us but she is in hospital with A Fibrillation issues. That combined with the present travel woes and Cancun like so many places is having a Covid surge. Before coming back to US we have to show a negative Covid test. If positive   we would not like to go into quarantine and stay longer in Mexico. Lot’s of issues.

Today I’m the Grill Master with slabs of Pop Pop’s famous ribs to slowly cook. With parents at home I’m getting a break!

Thanks Rich and welcome home from your cruise. Thanks for all the contributions. Some humorous!

YES! Thank you so much. I should be boarding 1-9 for b2b2b. If you see this post, please let me know if one of the pools has 'steps'  It looks like the aft pool has straight up and down ladders.  I have a HC cabin on deck 7, it looks like there is a couch. I'm very happy about that.  Once again thanks so much, debbie

Debbie, I just ran over to aft pool for ya. Looks like a full aft HC pool and hot tub with nice wide steps down. Xx

Good morning everyone and thanks for the daily report.  Epiphany already, it seems like it was just Christmas Eve yesterday!  I love the quote by Oscar Wilde.  The meal suggestion sounds delicious.  Haven’t been to today’s port so I’ll enjoy the photos today.  Prayers for everyone on our list and cheers to everyone celebrating happy events.

Good morning everyone!  A special congratulations on @dfish Debbie winning the lottery!!!  🎉 Also a hug and warm wishes for @mamaofami as she celebrates life in two different ways.  Our thoughts are with you. 🌷

I KNEW it!  I *knew* the weather was trying to trick me!  Lull me into a false sense of security with these warm temps and then POW!  A winter storm warning.  @Heartgrove Jack is a little further southwest than me, on the other side of the mountains I believe, so our weather is going to be a tiny bit different.  I am kind of excited because I love precipitation.  (I am from England and Canada, after all.) I will prepare the birds’ heated bath and make sure there is enough seed for them.  I got into bird feeding the first winter in this house.  The previous owner had left a feeder in the tree long enough where it had become a part of it.  We had our first winter storm and a tiny bird, shivering on the lee side of the feeder, was trying to get food where there was none to be found.  I made sure that would never happen again.

I have never had a meatball sub, and doubt I ever will, but I love the quote.  I don’t know how much more feasting I can take but the Church of the Epiphany is the one we started attending when we moved to Canada; where I was Confirmed; where I was married to my first husband (RIP); and where my daughter was baptized.  I have fond memories.

Today I am not going to run up a flagpole, nor have a gin and tonic…. Although…. they get quite creative with their gin and tonics in Liverpool if you’re ever out that way.  Highly recommend.

Sorry about the giant storm warning.  I have not figured out how to reduce the image as yet.

Good morning Dailyites!

@Cruzin Terri  Thanks for the info on the date change of the Epiphany.  I was holding out til the 6th (not knowing that it had been changed), so the tree is still up.  I guess they changed the date so that Christmas is out of the way and put away until next Halloween.

@grapau27  Did the restaurant know that your name is Graham, so they put a G in the middle of your soup?  How great is that.

HMC is one of my favorite places.  I would book a cruise just because it went there.  The first time we went we had great waves for body surfing.  The second time we were there, and the three times after that, the water has been as flat as a pond.  Still to me, heaven on earth.

I too watched Don't Look Up (on Christmas Eve)  I did find it humorous in a sick sort of way, to me it a was a parody of the pandemic.  The cast is pretty incredible.  I also loved Death to 2020, but was only mildly amused with Death to 2021.

We are watching the temperatures in Atlanta take a nose dive today.  When we went to bed at 11 last night, it was 68 degrees, tomorrow morning it will be 32.  Temperatures to fall all day, and rain is expected to fall all day.  I have two orders of shoes that i have been waiting for that would be perfect to go hiking with,  both orders are now a week late, and just as well, as when the weather is wicked, i do have to think twice about hiking alone in the woods. So, so far my resolutions this year have gone-

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  I remember celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany with our family going to a special mass early in the morning.  If only we could stop spam - both on computers and phone calls.  Oscar Wilde's quote is a good one.

Well there's good weather news from the "frozen tundra"; it's warmed up to -30 wind chill, and we could reach a high today of -15 ... woo hoo!  We have to take advantage of the warming trend, as the Arctic chill is expected to return in a couple of days.  DH has to get a new battery for his Ford Escape which died on us just before we left for Calgary.  He's been waiting for a warmer day to get it out and change it.  Today's the day.

Bon Voyage @summer slope, I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

@dfishcongratulations on your lottery win - I'm so happy for you!

@mamaofamimy condolences on the passing of your dear friend; it's difficult to say goodbye, even when it's expected.  On the other hand, please Sam my happiest Birthday wishes.

I upheld my tradition yesterday by staying in my jammies nearly all day, watching the Tournament of Roses parade, napping, knitting, napping, etc.  I finally got up around 4 when it was time to put the ham in the oven.  LOL  January 1 is my one day of really slacking off and I do it well.

I tried a meatball sub once - I had a couple of the meatballs fall straight down the front of my white t-shirt and that was the end of ordering them.  I'll take my meatballs in a dish, thanks!  Dinner tonight will be ham, potato patties made from the leftover garlic mashed, green beans and a coleslaw.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra prayers for Jacqui, Jose, Marley, and Jose's medical team.   We'll clink the glasses together to celebrate all on the happy list and wish Bon Voyage and safe travels to all those embarking and disembarking a BHB today.  Be well, wear your masks, stay safe, wash your hands, get your boosters, and stay warm!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

Good morning friends!  We tried sleeping in this morning and succeeded somewhat.  We were bombarded by heavy rain and winds before 7 am but managed to pull the covers over our heads and stay put until after 7:30.  We have had such a busy weekend travel schedule for a month now, we were determined to "relax" today.  We are expecting rain all today and tonight.  Yesterday afternoon DH decided we'd better get the tree trunk Christmas lights down so we did that thank goodness.  Today we'll just hunker down.

@mamaofamihappy birthday wishes to Sam today.  It sounds like your DD's plan to have everyone together but distanced might work.  I hope you can arrange the get together around the zoom call for your dear friend's funeral.  What a bittersweet day for you and Sam!

@aliaschiefI'm sorry to hear about your DW's twins hospital stay.  I hope she can be brought home soon.  DW must be very worried!

@Seasick Sailorenjoy your next cruise, after you get yourselves moved this morning.  So, so nice of you to run take photos of the steps at the rear pool for @sassy~one.

Thanks Rich for taking the time to post today during you disembarkation and travels home.  Also thanks to Roy for the list of Cares and Celebrations.  Prayers for our group and especially Roy, Jose, Jacqui and the doctors.  So happy to see Father back here and posting regularly now.  He is amazing!

I like giant meatballs but have never tried a sub sandwich made of them.  I agree, many napkins would be needed.  I salute the Feast of Epiphany and thanks for the explanation of the change in date.  I was thinking something seemed off.  And what a crazy day for running up the flag and seeing if anyone salutes!  🤪

Today's port sounded familiar and no I haven't been there before.  We had that port 15 days ago, so if anyone wants to see photos here is the page:

Or those who posted photos can post them again.  When we went to Taiwan, we docked in Keelung, then were picked up by my DS's sister-in-law who was living there at the time.  She took us all around to temples and villages, then to Taipei to go up in Tapei 101, and lunch out.  The following day there was a landslide covering the highway between Keelung and Taipei which could have been very dangerous for us all. Several cars were covered in earth and people died.  What a difference a day makes!

@garlictown  Amber Cove is pretty nice ( i did do one of the best shore excursions i have ever done there)  But right now the Dominican Republic is pretty Covid safe.  I had to call a company this last year after I screwed up an order.  The gentleman i spoke with was in the Dominican Republic.  I asked him how covid was doing there, and if they had vaccines.  He told me that vaccines were mandatory if you wanted to work, and while they were working from home, they still had to be vaccinated.  Every one he knew had been vaccinated.  The upside of a Socialist country.

I did take a nap yesterday, from 12:30 to 4:30.  I could have just slept all day and night, but I wanted my dinner!  Tummy rules.  Stayed up till 11 and then slept until 7:45.  Maybe this is the year for sleep.
