OBC and Casino

Will be sailing my very first RSS cruise and I have more OBC than I possible need (yes I know 1st world problems 😊).  At NCL the following can be done:

“My T/A gave me $100 and NCL gave me $75 OBC. I checked on my account and there was a credit for $175 on my account. I went to the casino and put my room card in a slot machine. A small menu appears on the bottom of the screen. In the upper left of this screen there is a small green icon which looks like a $ bill. Click on that and follow the prompts. What you are doing is charging the amount of $ you want charged on your account. They charge you 3% for this transaction. I entered $100 in the amount I wanted. I then hit cash out on the slot machine and a coupon came out for $100. I don't know why I didn't get $97. Then I took the coupon to the cashier and she gave me $100 in cash. Worked well with no problems.”

Does anyone know if this will also work aboard Regent?

Thank you in advance.

keata - Yes...it works exactly the same way in the Regent casinos.  And it doesn't have to be just for the "redemption" of OBC's.  You can use exactly the same method if you just want to "charge" (or get a cash advance of funds) to your your room, to be paid at the end of the cruise on your final portfolio,.  As you said, there is a 3% service fee for the money that you are being "advanced" for gambling, using this method.  But it's handy if you don't want to use any of your cash/bills in the machines.

If you use a charge/debit card in the "cash machine" in the casino to get money out...I believe the fee is 7%.  So putting your room key into the slots and being charged the 3% is "cheaper" than using the cash/ATM machine in the casino.  Using the "cash machine" in t he casine, the charge (and fee) is placed against your card's bank (or bank debit account),  Whereas using your room key, the charge is placed again your room charges and paid on the final day.   Regards.

I sure wish I had know about this when we were on the Explorer in January, 2020.  We had $1,000 OBC from our travel agent and I struggled to find a way to spend it.  In the end I went to the shops and while I wear my Maui Jim sunglasses almost daily, the two sets of earrings, and designer evening bag I bought haven't seen the light of day since returning home.  In the meantime we 'donated' considerably to their casino coffers on that trip!

@FengShui@Sea exactly what I am trying to avoid.  Isn't it funny that when you want to spend money you cant find what you really want??

If you have OBC you want to use, the first thing we do is go to the purser's desk and check if any of it is refundable.  If so, we try not to spend it during the cruise.  In addition, the spa on Regent is wonderful as are the uncharge wines, which provide additional ways to use the OBC.

Have fun spending your "found money."

So, if I understand, you can use OBC in the casino, in the slots. Can you use it for roulette? Or do you need to go through a slot to get cash?

You cannot use nonrefundable OBC in the casino. For a 3% fee, you can get cash in the casino to play table games which will be applied to your shipboard account. However, that cash will not offset any nonrefundable OBC you have. Unfortunately getting cash in the casino is not a loophole available to cash out 97% of nonrefundable OBC.

If anyone has had a contrary experience, please correct my post.

Now I don't feel so bad.  Our $1,000 OBC was non-refundable and from these comments I wouldn't have been able to use it in the casino.  My understanding is any 'refundable' OBC will be credited back to the credit card you have on file at the end of the cruise.  I haven't had this 'problem' yet with Regent but would be interested to hear from anyone that still had a refundable credit at the end of the cruise.
