Will you still wear a mask?

I know it is a personal choice and everybody has a comfort and risk level.  But a related question for those still choosing to wear a mask on cruise ships.  Not judging but just very interested.  What will change your mind if anything?  What sign are you looking for?  And when?  If COVID becomes truly an endemic or circulating virus (like influenza, other cold viruses, etc) never to be gone completely, for perhaps decades or forever, will you always wear masks on your cruises?  Even if COVID vaccines and boosters protect you from serious illness?  My questions assume that COVID is here to stay but becomes entirely manageable.

I’m pretty relaxed but can you guarantee me that the risk of death from Covid is ZERO?

I just asked a simple question. And you at least answered my question.  You will wear a mask on cruises while awaiting a guarantee that the risk of dying from COVID is ZERO.  Probably not ever gonna happen for decades.  I don't think that guarantee will ever come from anybody.

Nope. I can guarantee that it's a far lower risk than many risks you likely live with every day.

Sail 3/26. No, that’s why I booked a few weeks ago. It won’t happen but they review masks on planes around 3/21. Hope that goes too. Probably not. A friend visited St Martin a week ago. He wore a mask on the plane but not in the airports and no one said a word to him

If you're waiting for the Covid risk to be ZERO, then you may as well also wear your life preserver for the entire cruise because there's a non-zero risk of the ship sinking.

I work in midtown Manhattan.  Pre-COVID, there were people (not a lot) who wore masks every day inside and outside.  I always thought it was a bit weird and overly cautious, but who am I to question what people do to protect themselves and others?

In the future, I think after all the restrictions and mandates are lifted, the percentage of people who feel safer wearing masks will be a lot higher than before COVID, as long people remember what COVID did to many of our friends, relatives community members and coworkers.

Actually, I think the reaction of some to the concern of the OP of the "zero risk" post has become overly harsh.  The risk varies with the individual even those vaxed and boosted, especially those elderly, immunocompromised, cancer survivors etc.  So while I consider MY risk to be pretty close to zero for serious illness, for others the risk is higher.

Thinking back to pre-covid days and remembering the times coughing, sneezing folk passed around assorted viruses, wearing a mask could have saved me several miserable days during my trips.  On one river cruise passengers were jokingly wondering if they could separate the dining room into "sick vs not sick"  since there was no way to MAKE someone stay in their room.

Please let's all be considerate of others here and when onboard

March off to NYC, April, England, May, Disneyland. June is our Alaska cruise. My thought are if a cruiseline or a country requires a neg covid test to board or enter. Then yes I'm planning to wear a mask when in elevators or large groups of people.

Remember, I said at the beginning that I'm relaxed about this. I won't wear a mask everywhere or all the time.  Maybe in the theater but not on my balcony and maybe not at the gym.  It all depends how many people are around.  I do it not just for myself but also for people I travel with who may not be as relaxed.

Do I think I'll die if I go on a cruise ship tomorrow?  Probably not.  But you can't guarantee that I *won't* get sick with covid or norovirus or the flu or something else.  Who knows what the next version of Covid will be like.  You may have to put that mask back on eventually.

Just in an elevator, when others enter, and on those very rare occasions when we wind up sitting in the theater or some other congested area with someone directly behind us. I really have enjoyed not getting bronchitis and/or other "shipboard" illnesses these past few years.

An excellent point.   One year between December and March I cruised a number of times and ended up catching colds not one, not two, but SIX times in one year - a new record for me as I usually have a pretty strong immunity!  Since I have been masking I haven't caught one.  I am sure many (of not most) of those colds were actually caught on the airplane where we have to mask up anyway.

Effective February 25, 2022, face masks will be optional on board for all vaccinated guests.  Masks will continue to be required for unvaccinated guests, at all times indoors, except while eating or drinking. This policy will be re-evaluated on a continuous basis.

Per Celebrity website.  Dropped casino and theatre requirements.

We will not wear a mask on board. We cruised in October and said we would wear one in the elevator. That lasted about as long as it took to drink our first glass of champagne.

LOVE this!!!!
