When?  March 2020?  BTW it is a rhetorical question, because no country was allowing ships at that time.

It was around the holidays I think, but I don’t recall the exact date. I just remember feeling sorry for him and his family as they couldn’t go home

I've actually seen people do this while driving...often wondered why. Perhaps a rental or else not belonging to them for whatever reason, or perhaps due to whomever recently rode along with them.

I see it a lot in NY. I’m guessing they are on their way from somewhere they had to wear a mask and they forgot to take it off.

What Royal Caribbean ship called in Italy in January?

I don’t recall but I’m sure you could search for the thread if you are interested. It was around the holidays I think and I’m thinking it may also have been Spain, not Italy, as many offered to help in translating menus etc for him. My point was simply that a positive COVID test can be extremely disruptive even if you are not concerned about getting sick.

I dont believe people are made to leave the ship. I have seen numerous posts from people who said they were quarantined

In Europe the rules state you have to leave the ship. Whole new ballgame just waiting for the unwary....

If you visit the Cunard or P&O UK website they issue a warning notice to all their passengers on this point.  Since September last year several hundred people have faced removal to quarantine ashore in European ports. They include Spain and her islands, Italy and Greece among them

Tell your doctor to look at the numerous  studies that show a much lower prevalence of covid in schools with mask mandates compared to neighboring schools without. Those kids are wearing cloth masks.

Sorry, only someone from NY would believe this dribble. I will take the sound advice from my doctor friend over your views. Our schools locally have been mask optional all year and nothing has shown the covid cases to be any higher among the unmasked. I will continue to not wear a mask and if you want to wear one that is your choice, the days of political dictates are over. I will not wear one on any cruise ship either.

Everything has been fine for 2 years?  Are you saying that there have been no cases of COVID for that whole time?  Or that no one has died?

Of course there were cases of covid, but there is over a 99% chance of surviving Covid, and so people got the cold-like symptoms and moved on with their lives. Private schools and public schools and churches just went on as usual and as I said, no big spreads or anything. We felt really blessed to not live in constant fear.

Maybe. I'm a caregiver for my 85 year old Mom (still strong). I will, definitively quarantine myself for a few days when I come back as a precaution. Now that we know better, it would be the same if I get norovirus on vacation. I'm not going to see Mom.......

My provincial MNA got covid - survived - can't walk (used to do marathon)
My next door neighbour is a nurse -survived - now use an electric bike - Went hiking to Machu Pichu in January 2020.
Nobody I know (myself included) got a a flu and had to stop sports or exercice.

But that's just me .  .opinion differs....

over the years many people including ourselves have felt a bit dodgy after a flight [cold like symptoms] and its taken a couple of days on ship to get over the feeling. in todays world this would be called covid....ridiculous

Until you have lived in Florida with the in your face attitude of many locals  and visitors who flaunt not taking any precautions in a pandemic as their personal stand for individual liberty, you may not understand the view of many of us that we are surrounded by fools.

And yes, I have allergies that make my nose run, eyes itch and give me a cough. However, as I have just experienced, the dry cough of a case of covid is different than my allergy cough.

Enjoy your unmasked cruise.

If you view yourself as surrounded by fools in Florida, perhaps it's time to return to Maryland.

How can this be true.  I thought that the air is exchanged so rapidly in an aircraft, it isn't possible to catch anything.

Just wondering if people are wearing/planning on continuing to wear masks on-board.

...

Yes I would. I did. Did a b2b ending ten days ago. First leg, masks required most places indoors. Second leg, masks required only in theater and casino. We continued to wear our N95 masks, but most passengers did not. I did it partially for health concerns, but mostly to show respect for the crew who were masked every single moment of their workday. If they can do it, so can I.

I wear a mask indoors.  I don't wear one outdoors, and of course at meals.

I have avoided commenting on this thread but...here I go.  😅

I have always thought it's absolutely  ridiculous/hysterical about masks and restaurants/drinking establishments.   You take it off to eat and drink but have to put it on to walk out or go to the bathroom.  I guess invisible covid blocking walls go up around everyone while maskless at a table or bar but disappear when you stand up?!?  🤔

Personally, it should be up to each of us what we choose to do.  If you want to wear a mask, wear one. If you don't, then don't.  If you do wear one, at least have an N95 that fits properly.

Since I did decide to comment here... I will answer the question asked.  No, I will not wear a mask.

I may not wear masks while out and about but that doesn't mean I am not careful.  I am, I always have been regarding hygiene.  I also don't put myself around large groups or stand close to people. So, just because I don't wear a mask, doesn't mean I am careless, I am far from it.

In October '21 when we cruised, we all agreed if masks were required on the ship, we would not go.  Thankfully they were not required.   My next cruise, again, hopefully the mask mandate stays away.

I’d move if you sat next to me.  Thank you!  I’m here all night.

How does @PinkSandGirl buy groceries?  Self checkout?  Home delivery?

If PSG gets the flu does she wear a mask?  What about Covid?

Definitely. As an older traveler and in the high risk group I will continue to wear my mask in which there is no social distancing. It will take a good 6 months before I will confidently declare the covid academic is no longer a threat.

Is the Covid academic a high school?

I know it is a personal choice and everybody has a comfort and risk level.  But a related question for those still choosing to wear a mask on cruise ships.  Not judging but just very interested.  What will change your mind if anything?  What sign are you looking for?  And when?  If COVID becomes truly an endemic or circulating virus (like influenza, other cold viruses, etc) never to be gone completely, for perhaps decades or forever, will you always wear masks on your cruises?  Even if COVID vaccines and boosters protect you from serious illness?  My questions assume that COVID is here to stay but becomes entirely manageable.

I think this is a good question and for me time will tell. We have witnessed three different variants of Covid over the last there years. One more virulent and one less virulent than the original. If over the next death and illnesses caused by covid remain at the level of the flu I will take the precautions that I do when exposed to the f;u. I will continue to take my injections and wear a mask at the height of the season in very confined places. One positive result of my mask wearing is that I have never avoided so much illness in my life, both serious and just colds. I used to think seeing all those people from Asian countries with masks on planes as strange, Not so much anymore.

Some people say that mask weakens your immune system.  Do you agree?

If it was a theater that wasn't crowded and there were other seats, I would likely look at you, like...really? Seriously?!  I would do that now or before covid. 😅     If you started coughing and sneezing, I would get up. 😉  Again, that was in the past and currently.  😉

Groceries:  When covid first appeared,  I started ordering online and doing curbside pick-up.   Now, I go in.  Ever since self checkout came, I prefer that so I can bag my groceries how like.  My dad doesn't like self checkout as he says it's taking jobs from people and I get that, but I like bagging my groceries.  😉

Knock on wood...I have never had the flu and I do not get the flu shot.  I haven't had covid.   🙏🤞

So if the theatre was crowded, you'd be happy to see me sitting next to you?  Would you feel any different than you would have felt pre-Covid?
