Sorry to labour the point but Portugal is an EU country and I have an EU passport.  Be similar to telling someone in the US they could not disembark in Boston when they boarded in New Jersey.

Actually, you may or may not be able to do that.  Depends where the cruise goes.

There is a law in the United States, the Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA) of 1886, that in most situations would prohibit someone from disembarking in Boston when they boarded in New Jersey.   Even if the deviation was not prohibited by the PVSA, Celebrity only allows such deviations if the passenger requests and receives advance permission and pays a fee to do so.

Very sad that both of you have to deal with the stressful situation. Celebrity certainly is not making it real easy to take the next step. We had close friends test positive 3 weeks ago and it took them 12 days to finally test negative and be able to fly home. Hopefully Celebrity land portion to somehow end your stress filled cruise. 🤞

I asked Celebrity if we could debark the Edge one day early in Naples for our May 2022 cruise in place of going back to the home port of Civitavecchia the following morning. The answer was “no”. Celebrity is not allowing anyone to debark the ship early due to Covid. It was cut and dry.

David, thanks again for posting details of your quarantine. It’s a shame CoVid passengers are last to depart after all you’ve been through! I hope you are in fact able to leave at one of those times given and not detained any further. Please let us know what happens next. If you have to quarantine further or can fly home.
Best Wishes for your return home!

I agree. While this wasn’t the ideal cruise by far, David has kept a great attitude the entire time. Hopefully when they’re ready to cruise again, it will more than make up for this sailing. Fingers crossed that they have an easy debarkation in the morning and a safe trip home. Thank you for sharing your experience.

That's not what happens on HAL.  The infected person goes to a balcony room in an area set aside  for this purpose and our friend did this.  Her husband, who was still negative could stay in their room and he did for the first 3 days and then tested positive and he was given the choice of joining his wife in her room or in the balcony room next to hers. which is what they chose.  A much better scenario than what X is doing.

Actually this is exactly what X did for us on the Constellation in January.

Bad example as that is not allowed under the PVSA unless that sailing happened to go to Aruba or Cartagena first.🙂

On our trans Pacific a few passengers wanted to disembark in Japan to avoid paying the China visa fee. They were told they had to have the visa as the ship was routed to China.

Was this the 9/11/15 Millennium? I was on this cruise with my parents and we did exactly as stated(We've already been to China and never toured Japan so we disembarked in the last port in Japan and did a 7 day land tour of Japan via bullet train) and Celebrity did require us to have the China visa despite never setting foot in China. What was most problematic was convincing the China Visa authorities why we needed a Visa if we weren't going to enter China. We ended up having to create a whole  dummy China itinerary in order to get the Visa.

So debarkation... Go figure I've been told 3 different things now. Someone will come and collect us in the morning and that will happen at either 8am, 8:30am, or 8:45am. They sure aren't making it easy to schedule a car out of here. Apparently the UK border force will be boarding the ship tomorrow morning at 6am and would like to see every passenger face to face. Because of this, the ship has decided that covid passengers must be seen last and no begging will change that. So our isolation is extended a couple of extra hours thanks to ship policy.  Freedom is so close I can basically taste it!

And that brings us to the final quarantine cruisine! All from Luminae tonight, with bags packed and ready to go, our last meal onboard...

Jetblue, thank-you so much for sharing your experience, or more realistically, your ordeal with us, from beginning to end. I was very curious to know more about what could happen to us, if testing positive on a cruise, and now I know a lot more about what to expect. It will definitely helped me be better prepared mentally and better equipped.

I also wanted to thank-you very much for having had the welfare of others in mind when self-reporting. Unfortunately, especially nowadays, not everybody is able to act with that level of altruism. Bravo to you and your husband!

I am sorry to hear that your husband's last test was sadly also positive. I am sure it was not the type of news you wanted to hear.

I wish you both a complete and speedy recovery, a safe return home when you're ready and if possible, the opportunity to safely and respectfully enjoy good moments in England; after all, you are on a vacation!!!

Thank-you once more and good luck!

JetBlue;

Like so many others who have followed this post and your outstanding courage and grace under very difficult circumstances, all the very best for you recovery and post cruise vacation. If possible, come back to us once you are both feeling better and fill us in on events after leaving the ship. I think it's fair to say, a lot of people on CC will remember your "handle" for quite some time to come.

All the very best my friends.........See you on the next tack !

The best to all and thanks.  As a result I cancelled my transatlantic on Norwegian this coming weekend.  I have done mote than 55 cruises and decided it wasn’t worth it.   Each EU country is developing their own criteria.   It is very true you may not get off without prior authorization.   I have a feeling the EU isn’t what it was before Covid.    Crumbling a bit after Brexit and Covid.    Mike

But it can be done if you have good reason and insist.  There is a long thread on the Princess by an annual world cruiser Pescado Amarillo who could not make it this year, but her husband went on Ruby Princess for consecutive cruises.  After six weeks or so, she joined him on a Hawaii cruise.  Unfortunately, he tested positive before they got to Hawaii, so for health reasons she flew home first class.  He endured isolation and is still onboard.  She paid the $800+ PVSA fine on her onboard account.  EM

Maybe too much but I also bring along everything from bandages, anti-diarrhea meds,  cold and flu TheraFlu (Day and Night) and pain killers.   When away as long as we are you never know what you may need and unavailable while at sea.

Benadril is a biggie for us - as far as I know, we don't have allergies, but every once in a while one of us has a reaction and this is a game changer.  If I could figure out the triggers, we could avoid them.

Alright, so today we are docked in Lisbon, Portugal. Somewhere else we've never been and will need to find a way back to one day. We arrived about 5 hours late due to the medical emergency yesterday which Jim covered in his thread.

@jetblue  I so much appreciate your taking the time to detail this experience for us all.  Your positive attitude and cheerfulness are admirable and quite refreshing. We’d love to sail with you one day if the stars align!

I wasn’t aware that Jim had his own thread…would you be so kind as to direct me to it?

Best of luck to you in the future and May the wind be forever at your back in future sailings. You have earned it.

Sorry, at this time of night I get confused….could be the 20 yr port.  Steven is your husband, not Jim! But apparently Jim has a few things to say on the matter.
I’ll see myself out. ☺️

I’m sorry but Europe is not “crumbling a bit” - Europe is very much open for travel. I live in the UK & everyone is free to travel in Europe & vice versa. Its true that most countries require some proof of vaccination and/or completing a form BUT this goes for the rest of the world as well, including the US. We’ve got to jump through hoops as well to come to US to board a ship. Unfortunately the way of the world at the moment for travelling. Please don’t be put off coming to Europe, which is very much open

Indeed it was. A great trip although starting in Unalaska where there no tours and no transport except the school buses during school hours was a challenge. Luckily we had booked the only guide so our little group of 8 was able to get out and explore. We stayed on in China and did a 14 night escorted tour.

This was also the first and so far only trip where we circumnavigated the world: London/Dallas/Seattle/Shanghai/Beijing/London.

Did you go to the pre cruise dinner in Seatle? Happy memories.

Thank you David for your very informative posts about what could happen. Hope you both recover fully and very soon and debarkation goes smoothly. The U.K. and Europe are definitely open for business  despite Brexit and currently in the U.K. we have better weather than Barcelona, it’s warm and Sunny so maybe you can enjoy a few nice days before you fly home. We also have no covid restrictions so your free to move around unhindered if you wish. Safe journey when you do fly home.

We shouldn't be moaning too much. The UK probably shouldn't be on the visa waiver program and you wouldn't like if it wasn't. I would never get a visa if it wasn't  I don't think with my knowledge of immigration matters.

Whose moaning?? Not me! Just saying Europe is open but like lots of countries with forms to fill in. Visas have been around a long time & have always formed part of international travel.
