Scheduled meal times

Are there any river cruises that do not have set meal times, not our favorite. We were sold on AMA until we learned dinner was at 7 for everyone. Any suggestions for a river cruise with more liberal meal times?

As far as I know, all the major river cruise lines (Viking, Vantage, Avalon, AMA, etc) have fixed time for dinner, with a more flexible arrangement for breakfast and lunch.

With fewer than 200 passengers (usually considerably fewer) and a very small space in which to cook, it isn't surprising that a river cruise can't deal with people eating at different time.

Thank you all, guess we’ll have to adjust accordingly. Usually staying on land in Europe we eat between 9-10, quite usually for Europe

If your ship offers a kitchen tour take it---you will be amazed with how much they can accomplish in an incredibly tiny space!

I know Avalon offers a minimized buffet in the lounge at dinner. Thishelps you avoid the lengthy dining room meal, which can extend to two hours!

Viking offers a similar reduced menu on the Aquavit Terrace during dinner as well.

I just read an Avalon review that said dinner was from 7 - 9 and you could be seated any time within these times for dinner.

DH and I are not fans of dinner seating at one time.

I thought I had read that Uniworld had limited room service on some of its ships for part of the day (not 24 hours).

Might be worth looking into.
