Sea Pass Card

Recommended Posts

Hi folks! I'll be on Ovation this summer to Alaska and havn't been on a cruise ship for 18 years. Trying to prepare. How do you all carry your sea pass card?

I'm leaning towards lanyard for simplicity.

-Do you punch a hole in it (I think in this case it's an RFID card). If so, do they have hole punches at registration or on the ship, or do you bring your own?

If you use some sort of a sleeve, do you have to take it out to open your door, buy something, or go on and off the ship?

Are they about the size of a drivers license?

Any additional suggestions? Thanks!

Al

A lot of people us a lanyard.  Guest services will punch a hole in it for you.  I have a small leather case I carry it in my pocket along with some $1 bills for extra tips.

I typically use a lanyard as majority of my cruise clothes do not have pockets (dresses, skirts, slacks).

Yes, they are the size of a driver's license.

You can either buy lanyard's online precruise or simply purchase when onboard or they usually have a kiosk set up cruise terminal where they are sold.

Mine is a leather pouch with a zipper pocket where I keep cash for tips or casino then has a pouch in front with clear plastic cover.  No need to remove to use just tap the card to the door to gain access.

Like this one - they came in many different colors and designs on amazon

In my pocket in a SeaPass card holder provided several years ago as a stateroom gift by Celebrity. Has a front and back sleeve to hold two cards and a center pocket perfect for bartender $ gratuities.  Unfortunately you would have to cruise with Celebrity to get one.  Or perhaps I could sell you one of my extra ones.....LOL.

Other than that I would just keep my SeaPass cards in my pocket by themselves.1055739220_SeaPassholder-front.thumb.jpg.edf1eef0618083444f4c03559201e8b0.jpg1267361739_SeaPassholder-back.thumb.jpg.d362d78d8f3d9c177e980e6e09cc5430.jpg

Thanks for the reminder that I need to look for mine, to take on my cruise next week.  🙂

Hole punches no longer permitted. If using a lanyard, it must be one with a plastic sleeve for the card.

Just off Freedom this morning. They punched holes for people and the ice skating cast punched a hole for that too

IIRC, only Quantum (Nov. 2014) and newer ships have RFID cards which make hole punching risky.

I'm looking for something that will hold my phone, Sea Pass card and driver's license together. Activity schedules, menus, deck plans, dining options and purchase history are all on the app now. I pretty much take my phone with me at all times outside the room since the app is almost a requirement at this point. The app alone can even unlock your stateroom door on Symphony of the Seas.

Well, it's in my carry-on that I've taken on cruises pre-Covid, post-restart, and as recent as 3-4 weeks ago.  😄

Longtime lanyard users.  For the last five years, we've used these clear soft vinyl ID holders which work great on newer ships with RFID door locks, and can be hung from only one side on older ships where we have to dip the card into the reader.

I've never had one of these crack and split, and it's the same style I use for my work ID which has to be used a dozen times a day.  I'd previously used the ziplock style, but those don't age well, and will eventually crack or split especially at the seams.

We are firmly in the lanyard camp!  Just go off our 4th cruise using these:  Amazon.com : 3 Pack - Slim Heavy Duty Badge Holders - Hard Plastic Clear Polycarbonate (Holds 1 Card) Rigid Top Load Single Card Case - Vertical Easy Access Thumb Slide Hole & UV Protection by Specialist ID : Office Products

Just add an retractable reel of your choice.  Having the thumb hole access is a huge help!

I use a phone case with a slide compartment for credit cards. I can fit a sea pass card, credit card and a couple of dollars in the back of the phone case. There are lots of designs available on Amazon etc with card holders integrated into the phone case. There are also various stick on pocket type designs that work as well. Just search for your phone model + case card holder and you will find lots of options.

Maybe something like this?

We got something similar for DD when she got her driver's permit.  Since her phone is ALWAYS with her, it's easy to keep her permit.  She put her pop socket on the outside of the holder.

I keep mine in my pocket. My wife usually keeps hers in something like shown in the above picture. And then she usually tells me to keep that in my pocket for her. 😃

Can you explain the "can be hung from only one side"?   Sorry, just can't picture it.

I, too, am the keeper of the keys.  But that usually is easiest as anything I wear has pockets in convenient locations so it works for the best.  Besides, she wouldn't have it any other way!  😉
