Will I be able to watch the Preakness Stakes on the ship?

We will be sailing on the Ruby and on a sea day heading up to Alaska from SF and I wonder if Princess will be airing the Preakness Stakes on 5/21.  I know it is being aired on NBC and I can watch it on one of my devices but it would be nice to watch it on a bigger screen on the ship somewhere.

That could be due to aging if the Possum Wrangling got replaced by Gerbil Wrangling.  🐭  😄

A few notes that may or may not be of relevance, since I don't want to just say "I don't know":

  • I had success streaming Hulu at times on my cruise on the Majestic two weeks ago.  NBC and their app probably would have worked for me had I tried it.  We were heading the other way - San Francisco and points south.
  • I've heard the Internet can be more erratic in and around Alaska, so YMMV
  • We didn't have "standard" channels like NBC or ESPN in the cabins on our cruise, but we did have a couple of channels showing sports - maybe it could show up there?
  • You might be able to BET the Preakness even if you can't watch it.  Princess would want me to mention that there is sports wagering available through the Medallion app.  I could have bet baseball and soccer on my cruise had I been so inclined, but I don't know if there was a spot for horse racing?  Maybe under miscellaneous?

Good luck, and I hope you find what you're looking for on the Ruby.

Thanks @CineGraphic and @Honolulu Blue I don't plan on doing any betting as I do not gamble, but I really enjoy watching the races.  I do hope the Casino isn't the only option because I don't want to be in a smoky environment.  I should be able to use my ipad if I can't watch it on one of the big screens around the ship.  No biggie.

I'm just really looking forward to being on the Ruby.  I've missed the grand class ships and am really looking forward to being back on 🙂

I used to go to the Preakness when I was young. I was always looking for a good time, and blissfully ignorant/fearless. In '77 I remember seeing Seattle Slew and winning a few sheckles.

Now, almost 50 years later, the idea of standing all-day, binging on overpriced beer and hotdogs, and lining up for the porta-potties no longer seems appealing. I can't imagine why. 😛

PS.....I hope you enjoy the Ruby. We love the older ships too, but there were obvious service issues during our 2 weeks onboard in April. I hope things have improved since then.

Oh, I see they are literally only showing the horses getting into the gates and the race.  So, please excuse my ignorance...I don't usually watch this channel on the ship.  Does this mean it will be available live on the ship as well?  If so, I'm definitely going to check with guest services and see if they can air it on the big screen on the lido or in one of the lounges.  Somewhere where I won't be cold! lol
