World Club Gold to Platinum

We are one cruise away from becoming Platinum, by number of cruises taken and 10 days by number of nights onboard. Am I correct in saying that if we take a short cruise of 3/4 nights that qualifies? Or is there a minimum number of nights required. Thanks for any help. Pam

I am not sure these WC status levels have a lot of meaning at present! Boarding early is a logistical problem with so many expecting this as the norm, no WC parties (if you like that kind of socialising), and as for the internet package now, it is not fit for the 21st century! Certainly more costly as well.

Whatever, it is always nice to be on board!😊

Platinum give 4 days of Internet time so doubled up that can give pretty good coverage for most cruises. But I do agree apart from priority boarding/disembarkation in normal times there's not a lot else to look forward to.

Yes, it will qualify.

It is obviously a separate question how useful platinum status is once you have it.

Thanks all for your replies, I understand that the benefits aren’t  that special at the moment but thank you AspirationalFlyer for answering my question. We have Hong Kong to Southampton booked so thought by then we’d like the little extras by being platinum! Pam

Plus, more time on a Cunard ship! Lucky you!

That is my concern with Cunard status when shorter 3, 4, and 5 night cruises count. That means some teach status faster, but have invested less time on the ship and less money for Cunard. Using short cruises, one could reach Platinum having only sailed 15 3-day cruises, or 45 days. While those who sail longer cruises, say 15 7-day crossings, will have sailed 105 days. There is a disconnect in how this program awards loyalty.

With 15 trips one would reach Diamond.

I think this is one of a number of things that falls into the 'life's too short' category. Some feel it unfair that a single world voyage can elevate you from nowhere to Diamond.

Life is too short, and I am certainly not agonizing over this issue. But taking the World Cruise is impressive and certainly does not compare to 3, 4, 5-day jauntlets.

All those check in queues, all that arranging transport to the port, all that getting up early to disembark seems much harder work than a world cruise. On my first Cunard voyage in 1997, the lowest world club category was bronze, after two completed voyages. Yet they awarded it to Malvina Dean, when she was only going to have one and a half. Shock, horror. 😀😀

Where is the "loyalty" part in taking one cruise, even if it is a world cruise?

After all it is a loyalty programme.

Maybe Cunard should change the rules from "or" to "and"?

We're be platinum later this year after our 3rd cruise that will cruises of 14 days - 36 days- 20 days.   All that says is that I live in NZ so I can't be arsed with flying hours and spending $$ to spend a few days on holiday while jetlagged. And hate standing in queues so dislike both airports and embarkation days.

We  are doing one trip this year that includes the later 2 cruises . It also means my partner is retired and my business is remote and portable. Others may not have arranged their lives so optimally.

Some of us can’t go on long cruises due to work and family schedules. Some of us can’t go on more than one cruise per year. I read the posts about the benefits of being Diamond, and I don’t think it is worth it, especially now that they’ve changed your wifi benefits. Meet and greet with the ship’s officers is not something I need anymore. Now give me reduced rates, or first pick at cabins and it might be worth it. Perhaps they need to learn from airlines and hotels.

Ah, but you haven't factored in the status my dear. 😂👿

Status doesn’t matter to me. I remember being made to sit through the HA ceremony when my mom received her new pin thinking, “Really? This is important to her?” Of course, I would have skipped my college graduation if I could have! Now, I will admit there was a little boy who received their highest award, and what was touching was the pride shown by his grandparents.

When I was in high school I decided to never miss a day, so at the end of four years I could receive a tiny pin that said "perfect attendance".  I was very proud on the school awards day to wear that little pin. Now it is in a drawer somewhere.

I have many of those little cruise pins from various lines and I hardly care anymore. I am honestly not even sure of my status level on some of the lines. I travel where and when I want on whichever cruise line I choose at the moment.  Husband would rather be on a ski trip somewhere in the cold mountains any day over a cruise, so I have to push for my ship time.   I choose Cunard often because I really do love to dress up!  (I have a closet filled with fancy gowns.)

I am still in very good health, so I do not need to get on or off the ship faster than anybody else, I do not really drink that much even though I get invited to many cocktail parties, and after Covid  began to retract I received more great cruise offers than I could digest.  I think that the status is a bit of an incentive gimmick, similar to TripAdvisor that tells me I have earned another badge when I review a new hotel. Buying status is not the same as earning status, as many, many years of work and education have made me fully understand!

I made a  Cunard pin into a Christmas tree ornament.  I think it's a silverish colour but couldn't be sure  without looking at it.  I have no idea where the others  are.

I have quite  a few pins  but the only ones  I wear are the volunteering decade pins on my hospice lanyard. I'm very proud of them. 🙂

As to status, the only 'status' perk we used to enjoy on a regular basis was the internet allowance but to be fair, there are hidden perks of frequent travel but they're personal to the frequent traveller.

I used to enjoy the free meal in Coriander or La Piazza, but they seem to have gone.

We had our free lunch in the Verandah last year on QE.

Yes, I know that is still an option on most cruises, though in fact it was closed on our April cruise. I just don't like the Verandah much.

If we had non QG friends onboard, we used the vouchers so we could dine with them but if not, we didn't bother as anything on The Verandah or pop up menus could be asked for in QG.

I always order the Mandarin Crispy Chilli Beef at least once if we don't dine in Bamboo.
