Is it any wonder that Covid is spreading on ships when many people don't follow the protocols of getting tested when they have symptoms? Anyone who has those symptoms needs to be evaluated by the staff of the medical center. Self-quarantining is not enough.

Seems as it’s happening a lot on cruises. Even if they isolate in their cabin…what about room service crew and cabin stewards that come into their room?  

No wonder the crew is getting infected and no wonder there is a crew shortage.

I know this board doesn't want to get into covid debates and I don't blame them

 

but after being on the cruise, all I will say is you should expect constant exposure to covid positive people. ..dining, theater, casino, shore excursions . That is not hyperbole or exaggeration

 

Decide for yourself what to do with that information

Princess still has separate cabins to quarantine passengers who test positive. The crew members are taking extra precautions when dealing with the passengers in the quarantine cabins.

the 'crew' should be doing that in ALL cabins during these times...

First, people argued why they needed to report to medical if they are asymptomatic, now it evolved to even if they are with symptoms, they saw no need to report and are perfectly fine to expose the crew...just an observation.

I personally believe the number of people getting covid is vastly under represented.

 

I say this because I started paying attention to people sitting in the buffet and persistent coughing is prevalent. Then on the bus ride back to the airport, there were 6 people on the bus I counted that were coughing persistently as well. And that is just coughing, I don't pay attention to runny nose or  sneezing or whatever.

 

I don't think people are reporting it because the symptoms of it are nothing more than a bad head or perhaps flu and they aren't willing to risk quarantine to give up the freedom of the cruise.

 

That also leads me to wonder just how well they are cleaning non quarantine level rooms. Can you imagine going into a stateroom just 4 hours after a couple left and one or both of them having covid?

 

Are they really steralizing these rooms in the turnaround time it takes to setup the room, get the paperwork and all the other requirements

 

I would suggest that future cruises bring along some clorox wipes and wipe down the room from top to bottom the moment they arrive., tv remote, door handles, coat hangers, all of it.

Just as important, air out the cabin for a few hours...

I agree with you, but you are also likely to get covid off the ship as well at any number of places. There were spikes in cases before cruise ships even started operating again. I take precautions; but, I also think cruise ships have gotten a bad rap.

Cruise ships do have a bad rap going back to the Diamond Princess in Yokohama and Ruby 
Princess in Sydney in 2020. I know these weren’t the only cruise ships with serious Covid cases but the bad media coverage singled out all cruise ships at the time, resulting in the shut down of the cruise industry. Many efforts have been made by the cruise operators to create many additions & solutions to mitigate cases, and these together with vaccination mandates have all helped to reduce serious cases, but whether on land, sea or air, cases will continue, until hopefully the virus will completely disappear.

I don't know that it is a bad rap, its just reality - even though cruise ships are large, you are in a captive space, interacting with the same people for 6 days using the same common areas. 

 

Once covid is on board - and the reality is that covid is there 24/7, you aren't going to escape it, you can only hope to avoid it.

I called the dogsled company before I booked my Alaskan cruise.  I booked my cruise last minute (6 weeks out) and wanted to make sure the excursion wasn't sold out before I booked my cruise, because it was what I was most looking forward to.  The people at the dog sled company thought I was nuts, and had plenty of availability, and gave me helpful advice (book as early as possible in the day so your helicopter ride can be rescheduled if necessary due to weather and that the weather is generally more stable in skagway then juneau).    When I went on my helicopter to the dogsled excursion, I noticed a woman alone on our helicopter.  I saw her husband in the main entrance, so I asked if they'd been separated and sent on different helicopters (I'd read on tripadvisor that sometimes happened to families because the helicopters need to be balanced by weight).  She explained that she had cancer, and they couldn't both afford to go but this was her lifelong dream so she wanted to do this excursion while she could.

oh man, that's a tough read. I hope it was everything she hoped it would be.

Then I guess you shouldn't cruise or fly or go to the movies or go to the hospital or a theme park. There will always be covid, you can't avoid it or the flu either.

I just went on a cruise so I'm not one of those people who live in fear

 

but to act like its all the same in your examples isn't being honest.  I can get on a plane and fly for 4 hours, go to a restaurant for 2 and a movie for another 2 and not be with the same people, nor interact with any of them again.

 

In a cruise situation its a degree of separation kind of thing. By the end of the week I'm going to be around everyone who has been around everyone who has been around everyone . Kevin Bacon would love it.

Well, I was on the June 18th sailing and I tested positive for Covid this morning after starting to see symptoms yesterday. We are both vaccinated and boosted, so the effects aren’t as bad as they could be, but this is still not fun. Does anyone know if there’s a place on Princess I need to report this? I’m thinking that if nothing else, they may want to notify the room steward or something.

From what I've heard, Princess does not care! Princess = Inconsistently inconsistent.
