hmm, I've been on several (7-8?) RC cruises, and I've never heard of this before, nor do I remember seeing any ducks.  I've only cruised on the older ships (Freedom class and older), so maybe it's a new ship thing?   It's fun and quirky.. I might try it.

We don't buy bags of 100.  I like to spend a little more and get a more custom duck - maybe one or two.  You're right if they're all over the place the novelty is worn.

Fun fact, a container of ducks was lost at sea in the pacific years ago. They track them now to see where ocean currents take them.

I've seen a few garden gnomes added to CP. They tend to get removed by staff. 

 

One was a little naughty😇

Another was Godzilla eating gnomes.🤣

 

Much more interesting that rubber ducks😉

On Navigator I found a duck with a magnet stuck to the top of the elevators. I showed the wife and just left it there.

It’s harmless fun.  We don’t go looking but have found them and then hid them again. I think kids really get a kick out of it so why not?

Yes. When we were on the Symphony June 11-18, my 12 y/o grandson found 3 of them.  He was pretty

excited about it.

Didn't you hear that the ducks are a major controlling factor in the international trade imbalance? Harmless, heck no. They along with Dr Evil control the world.

Ha ha.  But if you don’t think someone is making money off this, you are kidding yourself.  The tracking, the hash tags that drum up more clicks.  I’m sure many link to places where others can buy ducks and get something back in return.  Some of these ducks may even have GPS trackers in them.  Who the heck knows.  A nefarious person could spend just a few dollars now on a GPS tracker and put it in one.  I’m sure many kids do keep them.  I’ve seen a few.  I ignored them and certainly didn’t point them out to my kids.  No way some random object placed purposefully to attract children is going anywhere with me or my family.  I don’t care if it is a cruise ship or not.  Just read about the family that realized someone was tracking them with a device at Disney.  

 

 But back to the $ aspect.  I’ve known a few people who came up with “money making” schemes that mirrored this whole duck thing.  All one needs is a for something to catch on and making money off of it is possible.  
 

A lot of folks are in the dark on a lot of motives that go into things.  Just read the casino ethics board on slot pulls and you see many shady stories that cast a light on how some seemingly innocent behavior is not quite what it seems.

If you wish. The serious people have tags on them with a cute poem and/or a facebook page or email to report that you found the duck; you then either leave it, keep it, or place it somewhere else on the ship.  I've only ever found two and I've left them both where I found them.

I'm on Oasis.  I found two ducks.  I hid one and checked by the next day and it was gone.  The other one I hid has yet to be found.  Deck 14 aft starboard elevator lobby.  

I think it will be there for a while. 😉🤫🤯

There is a similar game where Jeep owners "duck" each other, and leave ducks with tags on the jeep.  They have their own hashtag #duckingjeeps or #duckduckjeep.  I see Jeeps driving around my area with their whole dash lined with ducks.  Someone is a genius.

DH hid one up there before on the Allure. I told him it was to high for most people. 🪜

As of this morning, the duck is gone!

When I find them, I take them off the ship and leave them on a beach.  I have taken a duck from one cruise line and hidden it on another one.  And I took a few to the beach here at home in Bradenton.
