Symphony of the Seas - COVID Outbreak

Recommended Posts

Just returned from b2b sailings on Symphony of the Seas yesterday.

COVID was running rampant through the ship mid week - cast of shows were getting it, crew went “missing”, and pax were being taken to quarantine - so much so that they RAN OUT OF ROOM for quarantine pax.

6,000 pax with close to 2,000 kids. Cleaning standards not what they use to be based on observation - crew just stretched too thin and really only equipped to handle 50% capacity.

Guest Services denied any issues onboard. Family now positive, along with countless others online. Ambulances and quarantine vehicles were lined up to take people off ship in Miami.  Sitting in the ER tonight and Royal is of zero help getting us back home since we tested positive “off the ship.”

To many people onboard, bad planning by Royal. Asking for trouble and sounds like they got it.

Sure doesn't sound like it's going to be a good trip for the passengers that just boarded yesterday. Feel bad for them. 😞

Money is going to be the downfall of every industry, and we're starting to see the cracks at every turn (well, trying to make up for money lost during the pandemic, anyway).

Just because these [fill in the blank: ships, flights, restaurants, rental car counters, etc.] CAN hold X number of people doesn't mean they SHOULD be holding X number of people until after we can get through this surge of post-pandemic demand and things even out again.

You must be feeling really bad if you are at the ER. Were you suppose to fly home or drive, where is home at? Will you be looking for a hotel?

People usually go there when they feel really bad and are sick.

I wish, but no that's not the case.

Not saying this is why the OP is there, but the MAJORITY of ED patients can see their PC or go to walk-in clinic for their issues. The ED is not used for what it's supposed to be used for anymore.....js.

Unfamiliar area I guess you just go to the first place ambulance or vehicle you get in takes you too. Hospital

I've been wondering at what % occupancy the large ships have been sailing at.  Does anyone know over the last few cruises? 60%? 90%? etc.?

On Allure now and over 90%. Back to pre-pandemic.

Does it seem staffed adequately?

I was on the 7/3 Allure sailing and it was a mess.  It was short of staff and they were definitely not practicing any special COVID protocols. Limited hand washing, and the cleanliness was not up to par.

Sorry you and your family are so ill, hope you make a speedy recovery and figure out a way to get home soon. Awful being away from home when you are ill

Did you all test negative on the ship before you disembarked?

Most people don't test when getting off the ship, but sounds like OP was positive On Sunday after getting off ship on Saturday. Odds are they caught it on the cruise with many others.

If this is the case, then why would he expect Royal to help them? Had he tested positive onboard you are handed a letter upon disembarking that has all the info and phone numbers to handle post cruise expenses and accommodations. Also, probably shouldn’t jump to conclusions saying there were ambulances that met the ship at the port because of Covid patients. There are many other reasons ambulances can be there. On a cruise prior to Covid, we sadly lost a passenger (according to friends sailing with the family) due to a heart attack. An ambulance met the ship when we docked to disembark because it happened on one of our last sea days.
