I just read RCI is dropping Covid Test for cruisers 6 days or less as of August 1st?

Is this for real?

Would like to know as I am embarking on the Equinox for a 6 day cruise on Aug 7th,

Cheers

Gerry  where are you cruising?   If a country requires testing then not dropped.  Thus it all depends on that and what Celebrity does.

Last week, Royal Caribbean said it was dropping the testing requirement for vaccinated passengers on voyages of six days or less.

A number of threads have already posted and discussing.

To be correct the news release states LESS THAN 6 days - Not 6 days or less.

Celebrity has not announced yet any changes.

Last week, Royal Caribbean said it was dropping the testing requirement for vaccinated passengers on voyages of six days or less.

From Celebrity website:

Starting with August 8, 2022 U.S. departures, our protocols will include:

  • Requiring testing for unvaccinated guests on all sailings, and for vaccinated guests on sailings that are six nights or longer.

It's real, but I believe it's for cruises less than 6 days (not six days or less) and is effective August 8.

This is how it was posted:

No. That's not what they said, as you've already been corrected upthread.

Not trying to fight with you about it but would check your source and read it carefully.   Also a number of others have posted it and highlighted in Yellow.

kind of confusing?

This is from a Royal Caribbean press release: "Royal Caribbean Group will drop its testing requirement for vaccinated passengers on some voyages, the company said Thursday. Beginning on August 8, testing will be only be required for vaccinated guests on sailings that are six or more nights, and will be required for unvaccinated guests on all trips according to a news release." Either way, the change takes place on Aug 8th and your cruise leaves before then. Unfortunately you'll need to take the precruise covid test. 😞

On Celebrity's website https://www.celebritycruises.com/health-and-safety

Starting with August 8, 2022 U.S. departures, our protocols will include:

  • Requiring testing for unvaccinated guests on all sailings, and for vaccinated guests on sailings that are six nights or longer.
  • Maintaining a high percentage of fully vaccinated guests onboard all our sailings, far above the general population.
  • All crew will continue to be fully vaccinated and boosted when eligible, and tested regularly.

Details on the above protocols, as well as any other guidelines for your vacation, will be provided to booked guests the week of August 1, 2022. Current U.S. protocols remain in place for any cruises departing before August 8 and can be found here.

I have BTB 4 Day & 10 Day Cruises booked both out of Miami, so this ridiculous policy would mean that no test for the first cruise then we would have to disembark when we return to Miami take a test for the secondary cruise, not sure how this is a forward moving step ?

.

Don't worry, "LIMPIT."  You will not have to be tested within the city of Miami (while off the ship).  Instead -- assuming Celebrity will do what they have done in the past -- you will be tested onboard, on the last full day of your first cruise.  If you pass the test, you will be allowed to stay aboard for the second cruise.

If you fail the test, there are two possibilities:

(1) you may be required to disembark and go home;

(2) you may be confined to your stateroom [or a different stateroom] for a period of quarantine and re-testing.

You'll have to wait and see which of those unpleasant options they will impose upon you.  (We think that #1 is more likely, since your disembarkation point is in the U.S..  We will be facing a similar dilemma soon.  If #1 is imposed, then you and we will get a full refund, although we may have to pay for a change to airline arrangements; we aren't sure about that yet.)

PS:  We agree with your characterization of the policy as "ridiculous."  For weeks (even before the mid-July announcement by the CDC), we have publicly been advocating the dropping of all testing -- pre-cruise and onboard (for back-to-backers) -- regardless of length of cruise.

If Celebrity follows suit this would be good news for us. We are  booked on Beyond for a 5 night western Carib cruise in November so it fits the parameters used by Royal C.

We will bring our own rapid tests and use masks when aproprate, but  this change would remove the pre cruise hassle  and anxiety of  locating an acceptable test in West coast of Fla where we wil be staying pre cruise. We are triple vaxed but seems even that is no guarantee these days!

Hope it happens!

It did happen, Celebrity has updated it's regulations - reference up post on this thread posted by nautica12.

Be careful.  Cruise length is always counted per night.  For example a 5 night cruise would be 6 days.  You board day 1 and get off the ship the morning of day 6.

Exactly.  Referencing the nights is always (the only) accurate way to count the length of a cruise.  And, as you know, is how Celebrity has posted their policy - testing required if cruise is 6 NIGHTS or longer - which pretty much means nearly all of X's cruises (more or less), testing still required.
