Eating at the Haven

We were recently on the Norwegian Breakaway and had the great fortune to dine at the Haven on several occasions. The Haven Restaurant on the Breakaway is too small to handle all of the Haven passengers. "Overflow" seating is provided in the courtyard around the pool.

Thanks for the memory.  Looks like the same menu as on the Escape.  We ate in the Haven restaurant every day except for a few times other places had one of my favorites on the menu (like Mousaka)

 

That said, I am one of the few that NEVER eats hamburgers and I LOVED the Brie Burger.

My brother-in-law makes Brie burgers when he grills. He also makes a pesto mayonnaise (using pre-made pesto from the supermarket or Costco), which is out of this world. Easily the best at-home burger I’ve ever eaten.

We'll be in the Haven on the Breakaway in October.  What time would one arrive for dinner in hopes of avoiding the overflow situation?  

 

FWIW the dinner photos could have done without all that lobster, not real appetizing.

You can show up at any time and be seated inside. But you may have to hang out in the Haven Lounge until a table opens. 

 

The flow of traffic in the restaurant is totally dependent on your itinerary. We had late port days, so on those days, people at late. We typically went to the early shows in the theater, and ate afterward. The restaurant was ready and waiting for the "after show rush". When eating late, we tried to eat quickly since it often extended beyond the closing time of the restaurant.

We will have to agree to disagree on that one.....

One reason why the Breakaway/Getaway are some of my least favorite ships.  The Haven is an afterthought and big steps back from its predecessor Epic.  Besides the tiny restaurant, it's courtyard is small and the Haven sundeck has no water features. 
If I was considering the Haven on any NCL ship these ships would be last on my list.  The Escape corrected most of these shortcomings in the Haven.  Then Bliss/Encore took the Haven to another level.  Now Prima took it even higher.  But anyone that has sailed Bliss or Encore or even Epic in the Haven and sailed Breakaway or Getaway, they will be surprised.

Interesting. We have sailed the Escape in and out of the Haven. We thought the Haven was really nice. We have a 12 day booked on the Getaway in January. Have a Spa Balcony currently booked and are thinking about changing it to a Haven cabin. Might just pass is the Haven is not as nice or just might bid on one since the Haven is only 15% sold

Had Surf and Turf in July on the Getaway Haven.  Probably the best lobster tail on a cruise ship I’ve ever had.
