disnemimi Posted September 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2022 First time Oceania cruisers and getting ready to book a cruise on Marina Sept 29, 2023 and wondering if there is a dedicated deck for smoking, port or starboard? I want to avoid any smoke fumes so would probably pick a room on the opposite side. I have not found out any information on their website or even Cruise Critic forums. Any help would be very appreciated. Disnemimi
aaaaa Posted September 10, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2022 From the Oceania Website: Smoking For the safety and security of all guests and staff on board, Designated Smoking Areas are available on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck and in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas. Smoking is expressly forbidden in all staterooms and suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite or on a veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests choosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas. All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck. Guests are welcome to use Electronic Cigarettes except in dining venues which includes indoor and outdoor seating.
alcpa1 Posted September 10, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2022 The smoking lounge is an interior space which can easily be avoided by entering the Horizon Lounge on the starboard side. The outdoor area (port side)can be avoided by entering the pool area via the starboard entrance. The pool deck area (exterior) is adjacent to the art studio (an interior space) which can be entered via the starboard door and crossing over via the elevator lobby. susiesan Posted September 10, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2022 I'm surprised that Oceania still has an indoor area for smoking which does not go along with their "premium, upscale" image. I was on an NCL Dawn cruise a month ago and there was zero indoor area for smoking. All smokers were banished to an outside bar on the port side way up on deck 13. It was a lightly trafficked area that no one had to pass through on their way somewhere else so easy to avoid. I never used this bar even being outside. If NCL can have no indoor smoking why can't Oceania?
AMHuntFerry Posted September 10, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2022 I am not a smoker, but a properly designed ventilation system (and an actual door or two on the O-ships) would keep the smoke particles away from the rest of the ship.

Vaping is as hazardous and as much an irritant as second-hand smoke is. Additionally, it is more likely to invoke an allergic reaction. Very surprised at this ill-advised policy.
Robjame Posted September 10, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2022 IMO one would have to go to a lot of trouble to be offended by the smoke on Oceania. 6

Says "Updated June 19, 2018" so it's been a while. Explains why I haven't ever seen anyone vaping around the ships 🙂 I have a pretty sensitive nose to smoke. Entering Horizons from the Starboard side, and then not going right up to the smoking room entrance, means not smelling any smoke for me. Your mileage may vary, but the system is pretty functional for me 🙂 1

I just avoid the entrances near the smoking areas YMMV also

Which one is correct that is the big question 😉 I remember there was a big uproar a few years ago about allowing the e cigarettes anywhere onboard & that was when they changed the policy but now in the current T & C's it says it is allowed ??? This is the smoking policy from the contract: 15. SMOKING POLICY Guests are reminded that smoking constitutes a serious health and safety hazard that may result from the combustion of accommodation areas and furnishings and thus is expressly forbidden in all staterooms, suites and on verandas. For the safety and comfort of Your fellow guests, We request Your cooperation and compliance with this policy. Guests choosing to disregard the policy may be subject to monetary penalties - up to the Cruise Fare paid for passage - that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with the required cleaning of stateroom furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas. Guests are also reminded that the Master of the Ship reserves the right to disembark any Guests, without prior warning, for violation of this policy and said Guest(s) shall be responsible for all fees levied by governmental 12 or quasi-governmental authorities, all costs associated with repatriation and Ship’s loss of revenues from said forced disembarkation or costs associated with repairs or replacement of furnishings as a result of combustion of accommodation areas found to be caused by said Guest(s). Our ships are generally non-smoking; however, smoking is permitted in certain designated areas Since vaping is considered electronic smoking, I would certainly argue that it is not permitted in non-smoking areas. This should be clarified for passengers in no uncertain terms...imo. Edited September 11, 2022 by Guppy99 spelling

Rare LHT28 Posted September 11, 2022 #20 Share Posted September 11, 2022 The R ships had the enclosure put in many years ago but never for cigars they were always relegated to the outdoors On Marina in 2019 still no door In the early years the space was open & the smoke would drift down that side of Horizons then a glass partition was installed which helped very little finally the enclosure but no door on the O ships for some reason🙄 Riviera

There is no door on the indoor smoking area on Riviera. The smell reaches the bar area and assails your nostrils as soon as you get out of the elevator on that floor. I am shocked that indoor smoking is allowed at all on a modern cruise line. I hope that O gets rid of that venue in the near future, or at the very least puts a door on the room in the upcoming Riviera refurb. I will be on the first cruise after the refurb so will be interested to see.

Norseh2o Posted September 11, 2022 #23 Share Posted September 11, 2022 The port side area dedicated to the smokers can be avoided but smoke does enter into the ship’s hall from the outside area of smokers. Annoyed that Oceania hasn't built some sort of wall/divider between the smoking set up and the walk way from inside to outside. Might encourage smoke to leave the ship rather than drift into the halls?
