CocoCay Water Park Cost - $161?

I had my first visit to Coco Cay a couple weeks ago, and I was thoroughly impressed. RCI did a great job building out the island. We had the water park passes, but I was fortunate to have purchased them last Black Friday and paid less than $30 pp. At that price, I didn't feel compelled to "get my money's worth" and was satisfied with 5 or 6 slide rides and some quality time by the wave pool.

I would certainly include Coco Cay itineraries on future sailings, but wouldn't pay more than $50-$60 for the water park. $130+ is absolutely insane, and RCI is clearly taking advantage of pent up travel demand. Hey, if someone else will pay it, I hope they have a great time!

I did notice that the balloon didn't go up even once when we were there. I wondered if that was because of technical issues, or because the crazy pricing for that ride.

Yeah, huge difference.  The thing is...if you have kids (teens for us), then the waterpark is pretty amazing.  Unfortunately our kids don't love the beach (unfortunately for me as I do).  We did swim in the pool last time too, but it's crowded and they enjoyed for about an hour and then we returned back to  the park.

The balloon didn't go up for us last cruise either.  I think it has to be pretty calm for it to go up.  I noticed too for our cruise next March it shows as sold out.

I am very sorry because I know it isn't funny for the people on this particular sailing, but those prices do literally make me laugh out loud.... at RCL of course.

Why would you laugh at RCL? They're the ones making the profits. I'd laugh at the suckers who actually purchase this package.

Some people have money to burn obviously and others are on a tight budget.  Some vacation once a year and splurge for that.  Any port of call in the Caribbean that we spend over $100 pp has to be a special opportunity.  I’d love to do the beach club once and will continue to watch for it but it’s not worth more then $100 pp for a few hours.  We’ll save our money for Europe and Australia.

As long as Royal can sell the big suites and cabanas for outrageous prices, it will.  That’s just business.  We won’t partake.

Even very mild winds will shut down the balloon.  I'd say I've seen it go up about 1/5 of the times I've been on the island.

It's just a reaction to the prices... not really worth overthinking it.  I don't laugh at the purchasers because I don't know who is paying the $3500.

Like your citymate said, people who find it too much will vote with their feet and sail on another line.

At $58.99 pp for the Beach Club day pass, which is what I paid for our 2021 Allure cruise, we could afford that and it was almost the cheapest thing going on CoCo Cay, now nothing is so cheap.  We will just enjoy the Lagoon pool and the ocean thank you.  At my age, (72) who needs climbing up 10 stories to take a 30 second slide, or a drones eye view of ....nothing but water on a balloon?  If people would just stop paying these prices, they would have to be reduced.  If we could get the same price we might consider the beach club again.

This is pure unfettered capitalism. Whats the sole purpose of capitalism? To get rich or die trying. Don't you just love it!!!??? (sarcasm)

True, but what is the alternative? A state/government run economy that is socialist or communist would never even build the waterpark or a cruise ship industry because people have enough for their needs, that's it.

Real capitalism will be that Royal Caribbean's management overpriced everything so much, trying to "Laffer curve" to the peak, and people realize the alternative cruise line that's more competitively priced and competing for your business is the more attractive booking in the future.

RC is trying to be like Disney these days, where the previous Disney CEO had the philosophy of wanting everyone in the world to be part of Disney so didn't try to maximize the profits to the point of out pricing so many people, where the NEW CEO is 100% trying to min/max on the supply and demand curve to squeeze every last bit of profit out. It's the MBA way, more than anything. Disney has tripled in price in like 15 years.

I've been getting that same vibe from RC in recent years.

last Black Friday I scored a great price on the soda package, but this Black Friday AND Mon-Tue we are still going to be on a cruise.... without internet. 😞

Will you be on any islands or coastal Mexican areas where your cell phone will work within its existing plan?

Otherwise, might be worth paying for one day's worth of Voom on board... spend $30, save hundreds!

So glad we did our major travel year during 2021 and early this year (but booked in 2021).  Our Adventure cruises (B2B) out of Nassau last August had water park passes at about $35, the cabana option was $399.  We booked Beach club for $99, and an over the water cabana one day for $998.  We booked an OS for the current pricing of a JS.

And it’s not just RCI jacking up prices — it’s throughout the travel industry.  We had the most incredible 3 week trip to Europe this past spring, with several high end hotels mixed in that I booked in Nov/Dec that are all now double or triple regardless of what date I look at — even the moderate hotels.  People told us we were nuts to take these trips, but we are happy we did because we couldn’t afford them now.  Oh, and did I mention no crowds.  Sorry OP, that you are facing this kind of pricing.  It’s possible the prices will drop, so just check regularly and maybe you will luck out.

Eh, I have money I definitely could burn, but I choose to live on a tight budget.

People who live in the nicest houses, drive the nicest cars, go on the nicest vacations aren't always the ones who actually have the most money; a lot of them just have good credit.

Agree, but here's what I'd tell my kids, if they were still young and living at home:  The cruise ship's water park is just way too expensive.  We aren't doing it -- period.  BUT you'll have the beach and other no-fee activities, and -- when we return home -- I'll buy us tickets for the big water park a couple counties over (for which I can buy tickets through my credit union for about $35).  We'll make a day of it, and we'll have a blast -- in addition to the cruise.

$50.00 is max I would pay for a water park.

Yes, that's about my max.

I've heard people mention Black Friday as a great day to find cruise deals -- is it JUST Black Friday itself, or is it a couple-day thing?

Maybe you could have a friend make the purchase on your behalf?  Or, if you're on an island stop, could you go into a bar with wifi and purchase with your phone?

That's kinda how I am with Norwegian's "Free at Sea" program. They constantly show me some nice price w/ perks but the price of those perks push me away. "Free internet"? LOL 15 mins per day free! Then you gotta pay and it's same price as Voom. Norwegian was proud when they said they were raising their prices because they COULD.  Good for them and their shareholders!

I’m against 100% unregulated capitalism which we have. I’m all for capitalism as long as it’s regulated in terms of pricing. Especially with healthcare, food and necessities. Scandinavia is a perfect example it’s what they describe as compassionate capitalism

last year it was definitely a couple of days thing, because we were actually on Harmony on Black Friday, so I scored this deal on Cyber Monday after we came back.
