Using a cane

I use a cane to assist with walking. Sailing on Oasis out of Miami. Is there a special line for those with canes, walkers etc. for embarking or do I just get in line with everyone?

Full disclosure, it's been a few years since I sailed out of Miami, but as a general rule there is no separate line. I travel with a walker and I just join the throngs. 🙂

Just the line with everyone else. There is an area if you need a wheelchair to get on board.

There used to be one in PC once you were inside the doors, but haven't seen it since the restart.

There is a lot of walking involved, including going up the ramp on the walkway up to the ship. If that is a problem for you, you can get wheelchair assistance at the terminal. We use this service for my wife, makes getting on board so much easier for her.

I always asked for wheelchair assistance for my late husband. Sometimes it meant getting onboard a bit later if there were a lot of people needing assistance but it was helpful.

Occasionally  a very kind employee will pull you out of line and expedite you but don't expect it.

Choose a later arrival time when the masses have already embarked.

Personally I'd suggest that unless you can easily stand for an hour or more, ask for a wheel chair.  Boarding can be unpredictable, and standing for a long period is a possibility.  Play it safe.

Yes, we saw that in Miami with an employee direct arriving passengers with physical needs, including those with canes, into a special line.

The possibility of prolonged standing in line is exactly why we decided to bring my scooter for the sole purpose of going up/down the ramp to the ship, since we are staying on for 3 weeks total and will need to get off and on the ship twice for the two turnaround days. I agree with "play it safe"!

My wife uses a cane and we are virtually always directed to the wheelchair line upon arrival.
